M60 AND M1A1 2ND Tank Bn 2nd Mar Div
@marvies22252 жыл бұрын
I was trained on the M60A3 Rise Passive and served with 2nd Tanks, 2nd Mar Div. Right before Desert Shield/Desert Storm we did NET training on on the M1A1 Abrams before deploying. Used to work the bridge tank as well. Sure do miss those days showing up at the ramp, throwing your sea bag up top, signing out the machine guns, and going to the field.

Trained on the M60A1 at Fort Hood 1/66 Armor after Basic training.. we later became the 2/1 CAV and deployed to Vietnam with the M48A3, Was an awesome experience... Was not happy to get drafted, but looking back years later....BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME. Carried the training throughout life. These M60's look like they have the main gun stabilizing system in them. We did not have that feature.

Ecellent. That was my Tank, the good old M60A1. That's exactly how I remeber CAX too, at least a small part of it. We were there for about 30 day in November of 85. I probably logged on hundreds of miles there. A lot of fun and a mild amount of suffering but it was pretty darn cool. I was with C Co 1st Tank Bn. I served from 1984-87. (also did time in Delta and Charlie Co, 1st Tracked Vehicl Bn, 3rd Mar Div in Okinawa) Semper Fi Tankers

M60A1 had manual range finder. I think the M60A3 had a laser rangefinder and infared sights also.

My father was the 1st Cav First Brigade CSM after he got back from Vietnam in 1969. He got me a brand new copy of the dash 10 operators manual for a M60A1 for my birthday. When I joined in 1972 I also became an 11E. I was at Ft. Hood until 1975 then it was 3 years with the 2nd 32nd Armor at the Rock (3rd AD). After that I became an instructor at the Weapons Department at Ft. Knox. The M60A1/A3 was a good tank. They have one sitting in the park in Lake Charles, LA.

Army Served 1964 - 1967 Erlangen, Germany. M60A1 Two rounds down range in 15 seconds. Target Target. What a Beast! We lived in them during the Summer and Winter for days on end. Held all positions from Loader to Commander. Loved the HEP round.Watch one on the way and light up and look into the scope just in time to see it hit Target. I kinda miss those days.

Served for 6 years on M60A1's in Germany, 1/32 Armor & 3/32 Armor, then later at Ft. Hood, TX, B 2/5 Cav, 1st Cav Div. Awesome tank and deadly weapon in the hands of a well trained crew.

I trained on M60A1s they're a nice piece of equipment for their time. They are far superior than the M551A1 Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle I wound up on. I can remember how impressive the ballistic "computer" was in that you dialed up your desired ammunition and the main gun would automatically compensate ballistics. Sabot had virtually no arch at all. It was like squeeze the trigger after saying on the way and boom sabot was there smashing into the target. Heat and HEP on the other hand had a arch to them. The HEP or High Explosive Plastic was equal to an artillery round only it was 105mm instead of the standard 155mm but then in those days the U. S. Army used 105s, 155s, 175s though the latter was going with the NATO standard 155mm. Beehive was bad ass. This was a antipersonnel shell that could be dialed in to disburse at an exact range or the standard in which it normally detonates which was somewhere out around 800 meters I think as I only saw it used once. I could only imagine what all those flechettes would do to the human body if it hit them. I definitely think it would turn them into hamburger meat.😲😰😨😵😱😦😴😷 Bravo three one with a 105 gun WETSU ! Drill Sargent, WETSU!

In my humble opinion, M60A1 (or M60A3) is the most beautiful American tank ever made.

For some reason I have always loved the M-60, Im about 10 years to young to have serve on one.(I think they were retired in 1993 or so) It is great to see that they still have some life and tricks up their sleeves(Sabra and Magach) plus the ones that are still in service. Put me in an M60 over a T-72 ANYDAY!!!!

The Soviets could have knocked out the patton with one shot too, even in modern combat, tanks can be knocked out 1-shot, depends on the range & ammunition.

The M60A1 could fire on the move if it was a side shot but if it was a frontal shot you had to stop.

The title is incorrect. This is not 1st Tanks, this is 3rd Tanks. 1st Tanks didn't move to 29 Palms until after I got out in early 1992. Plus, when 1st Tanks moved to 29 Palms they already had the M-1A1's (1812). I was there when we transitioned from the M-60A1's (1811) to the M-1A1's after returning from Desert Shield/Storm in March 1991.

Units from 1st and 2nd Tanks rotated to the Stumps for CAX all the time. While the vehicles belonged to 3rd Tank Battalion, they were regularly loaned to the visiting units. The crews in this video could be from any one of the Marine battalions.

@jkk2013 жыл бұрын
@yeshuahfullofit even if they outnumber the m60's and on top of that some of the terrain could have caused some problems for the pattons .. these tanks didnt have mobility at all ... even in the a3 stage of mods later on .. so i doubt a country with up to 3x more tanks could actually be taken out as easy as you sound

God this takes me back! Thanks for posting this!! The worst thing was that when the 1st Tank Bn would come to 29Palms for a CAX they would borrow our tanks for a month (3rd tank battalion) and fuck them a little bit but its all good! The same thing with the boys from 2nd Tank Battalion except 2nd tanks didn't have a fucking clue! But that's OK too. 3rd tanks we did four or five CAXs a year and we were happy to loan our hogs out...especially in June, July and August.

You don't know what you are talking about! You said 62/64 as if those two tanks had something in common...they don't. And the T62 & T55 had crude Stadiametric range finders...a choke sight like a rocket launcher. And the 115mm and T-55s main weapons were inaccurate pieces of shit. Both the 55s &62s had thin armor and crappy night fighting gear...they were SHIT! The M60, Leo 1, AMX30, Centurion and Chieftain were all superior. And M60s &M60a1s have knocked out HUNDREDS of T62's and T55s
