There is a reason why gongs have continued being made with bronze and not steel. The sound cuts across everything way too easily. All I heard was the gong with the cymbals coming in occasionally. I won’t knock the steel gong as it’s a new look, but given the set up of one drum, one cymbal, and one gong, it’s like a hot knife through butter. Perhaps if there were like 5 cymbals going on, maybe it would be a much better balance. This is coming from someone that studied music and did this stuff for awhile.

in this video theyre using a steel gong, while in others its usually a bronze gong. the difference is as clear as water but some people prefer the steel one over the bronze. bronze is generally gentler on the ears which is why people prefer is more. even i prefer the bronze gong because the sound of the steel hurts and grates ears, hence why you called it "terrible."

It depends if the person that’s doing the gong Is hitting it hard with making it louder sound better but he is hitting it softly so it sounds terrible he was in my lion dance group we have a steel one and when somebody hit it like softly it sound terribly everybody was complaining afterwards
