Joe is simply awesome. He took the Unreliable Airspeed memory item and turned it into something very simple. Us Airbus drivers are basically doing the unreliable airspeed "drill" every takeoff and climbout.

That is the first time I’ve ever heard an explanation of WHY we level off for an airspeed unreliable event, and I’ve been on the Airbus for 4 years! Thanks Joe.

Joe does it again. A short and to the point explanation of a procedure that seems so complex but Joe explains it to simplify it and make it understandable. After 2 years on the bus it finally makes sense. Thank you Joe and the 1step team for such great content. Merry Christmas to all and looking forward to more in '22.

great video. Love this. He seems to be going very fast, but if you replay and pause, it's easier to take in, and everything is logical.

To protect the aircraft from stalling due to potentially entering high speed protection , you can force the aircraft out of ‘normal law’ and into ‘alternate law’ by selecting any 2 of the ADRs OFF on the overhead panel. This will stop the aircraft using high speed protection which is only available in ‘normal law’. (Note the aircraft isn’t flying at high speed but because the ASI has essentially become an Altimeter, the aircraft ‘thinks’ that your speed is increasing beyond VNE). The best option is to level off at a low altitude however. A good indication of your speed (albeit GPS ground speed as opposed to IAS), is to select DATA … GPS MONITOR on the MCDU. That’s far more reliable than the IAS Tape which undoubtedly will be falsely beyond VNE. Last point: The only method to stop the over speed warning (even though you are not over speeding) is to press the ‘emer cancel’ on the system control panel. Very well presented video Joe. Clear and concise. 👍

Hey Joe, Awesome videos. Quick question maybe you can help me clear something up. If you get UAS before Thrust reduction ALT, we set TOGA 15, do we keep this setting until MSA (within TOGA Limit), or passing THR/RED do we set CLB/10 before levelling off at a safe altitude to trouble shoot?

Now the latest A320 and A330 use A350 technology and have Digital Back Up Speeds used to compare against the 3 ADR speeds and can monitor and isolate an unreliable ADR that is giving false speed. These are also reversible so if the ADR starts giving similar speeds to the DBUS it can be declared valid again. If all 3 are declared invalid then the DBUS will display along with GPS ALT on the PFD

You nailed it!!!! AND!! guess what?? with that CLB pwr AND 10 degrees of pitch the aircraft almost automatically doesn't want to exceed the actual flap speed. Have fun

So here is my question,as we applying the memory item,we are maintaining configuration, and setting the pitch of 10 degrees with power of CLB,would the aircraft accelerate to 250kts? Or just over the VFE and triggered the overspeed warning?thx Joe

You forgot one vital aspect. Actually the procedure itself forgets it. How do we know that, why and IF we have unreliable speed after all? Pitch/Power? Maybe it is the pitch and not the power that results in the wrong airspeed. So it is absolutely vital that when you get to the memory-item "pitch/power...15/toga, 10/climb, 5 /climb " so verify that pitch with stby and opposite PFD. One short look at all visible horizons does not take long. If you do that as a habit you avoid confusion .

Tooooooo many questions about that) u looks at least as bus’ chief pilot) but still no answers at “what if I’m in EO” (it’s hardest one), and “if I’ll keep pitch 5 till I lose control” (UHMM icing case) Looks great when u “picturising” “fctm-siluations”. For me it is essential to keep in mind that u always have control of u’re a/craft
