Welcome to another episode of Trailmakers! Today we are doing a 1v1 dogfight where we can choose any weapon type we want, and use however many blocks we want. The only restriction is a maximum of 30 power cores. How you spend the power cores is completely up to the builder. Put more into weapons? Thrust? Balance? You decide!

Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

Yeah that's how Yzuei managed to win twice, I think he figured that out too. You can clearly see him doing a lot more low passes in the later rounds trying to attack his soft underbelly.

Scrapman could've done a few things to give him more of an advantage from what I can tell 1. Leverage the fact that the top side of his plane is sturdier than Yzuei's. Hug the plane close to the water so the top of the plane will be the most exposed. This also somewhat nullifies Yzuei's speed advantage as he can't take advantage of the weak underbelly and Scrapman doesn't have to pay as much attention to underneath himself. 2. Do not chase Yzuei too far up into the sky. Yzeui has the speed and energy advantage when climbing. This can cause Scrapman to lose a lot of his speed and maneuverability as his plane isn't as good of a climber and leaves him exposed. You can see this when Scrapman chases Yzeui up into the sky and Scrapman ends up rapidly losing speed. 3. Take advantage of taking Yzeui head on when the opportunity arrises while making sure not to expose the belly. Scrapman's plane is tankier and built for redundancy while Yzuei's focuses on speed and firepower. Scrapman can afford to take repeated direct hits while Yzuei can't. This should allow Scrapman to somewhat nullify Yzuei's speed advantage and exploit the fact that Yzuei is a glass cannon by allowing the most possible shots from the miniguns and rocket to land their mark. In the video you can see that Scrapman loses what should disable any other plane yet is still capable of flying and at one point even directly crashed into Yzuei and could still fly. A head on dogfight was also the only time a rocket managed to hit Yzuei's plane.

I do feel like no restrictions might work best for aircraft, simply because the shape of the build means a lot more there than on the ground for its operation. It is a lot easier to armor up a tank and still have it operational, than it is a plane. Thus despite no restrictions you still have to make some sacrifices for a plane to armor it up, much less so for ground based vehicles

@@GummieI All vehicles still give *something* up for bulk. A fast, light tank can trounce an armored glacier if it moves faster than the gun(s) can track, for example. More mass also means more cores devoted to movement, which means fewer for weapons.

Considering how often Scrapman was on Yzuei's tail, I wonder if it would have benefited Yzuei to have a backwards facing/tail gun. Other than that, I think the deciding factor really was just pitch authority. If Yzuei was more able to hold his ground in the turn fights, those smart cannons would have done the job for him; he was already doing a decent job eating away at Scrapman's practically-a-flying-tank.

If I understand the sizes of the parts correctly (I am just a viewer, never played the game myself), I think Yzuei could have done that by just putting a 180° horizontally spinning servo under each of his smart cannons, flipping his entire setup backwards at the press of a button. Hindsight 20/20 on that one.

i think itd be cool to do a collaborative building dogfight. both have their own planes, but they both contribute to building the two planes so that both can apply attributes their best at building to both builds. and maybe for some of the battles they have their starter planes, and for some they trade planes. i think thatd be cool asf for 4 player dogfights too

Yeah! I would say in this case the one fatal flaw was not putting extra shielding on the bottom, but other than that it is quite difficult to destroy.

Agree with this idea. Center of mass also affects the position guns lock on to so this could be interesting. The concept is simple but the results could be crazy. The rules could be like "you must have 2 50lb weights on your tail" or something.

I had an interesting idea, for any combat thing: the only limit is time(and the ingame complexity), so it really just means you build it as big and weaponize it as much as possible, as quickly as possible.

Scrap's plane looks like the obese lovechild of a WWI-era biplane and a de Havilland Vampire, whereas Yzuei just built an F-16. Also, their planes remind me of both the DPS and Tank roles in some shooters.

Day 5 of I've got 3 ideas for you, 1: Player 1 builds a plane with wheels on the tips of the wings. Player 2 makes a runway with two lanes and a gap in between. Then land the plane on that runway. 2: Build a plane which can transform into a submarine upon contact with the water (like, wings turn in and stuff). 3: Test yours and your friends building skills by turning animals into a vehicles (maybe multiple animals per person but that might be too time consuming). Points for form and points for function

Id say one thing about your plane, you kept pointing your stomach towards him because you were often having to rise straight up to pursue him, so shielding the belly would have made you much more survivable, but he could have also just switched tactics and approached more from above you. I think if the fighters are evenly matched in manuvering and speed, the top is best to be armored, but if you are the more manuverable one, you will get hit more in the belly while pointing towards them. And vice verca, he was faster but less manuverable, and so always got hit from his top

Honestly I think the reason scrapman couldn't seem to hit yuzi most of the time is because of the "lock on scrambler/stealth drive(that is what zero calls it)". Like at the start you can see that he is positioning his seat with pistons in his build and there are multiple times where scrapman seems to be locking onto nothing in the dogfights. I am not blaming him or anything I just found it surprising scrapman had so mutch trouble hitting him and thought this might be the reason. If so that would be pretty interesting and funny

Yzuei's build only appears to use pistons for opening and closing the cockpit windshield, not actually attached to his seat in any way. It's just a cosmetic/roleplay choice and has no mechanical effect.

I think a sort of Arms Race battle would be cool. Everyone starts with certain restrictions to build a vehicle (could be boats, planes, tanks, et cetera), and after each battle, they get more parts/power cores to work with. Sounds like the Evolution challenges, right? Except, they're modifying their own designs, not the winner's. And they would have the freedom to do stuff like this video, with choosing their own balance of thrust and weapons. I think it would be a fun mix of all the good things from the various challenges

I feel like a no control surfaces dogfight might be interesting. "All Controls must come from propulsion into different directions or directly from adjusting these propulsions." Gotta get all the standard controls in with thrusters and it'd probably be a very different feel to fly... and as thrusters get blown off, different types of turning would get less and less effective.

Yuzi could try to make you overshoot when Scrapman is on his tail, same thing with Yuzi overshooting since he was faster. Another thing to mention is that there are A LOT of air combat techniques that could be applied to Trailmakers air-to-air combat. Edit: i noticed that the aiming on all weapons lead but they dont calculate the turn so pitching up while doing a slow roll to any direction would make you dodge all the shots i think

Very close to my idea lol. Idea: OP Vehicle battle. Just build anything that will hopefully get you the win. Let's see Howmush destruction we can see when you're only limited to your imagination (and the 700 block limit). Maybe build a plane with 5 of every weapon? Maybe build a truck with 20 miniguns on the back. Or maybe build a submarine that can fly so you can hide under the water. I think it's will be fun too see what everyone comes up with.

Whenever yzuei got big damage on you, it was because you pulled up, and he got raking fire from your underside to your tail. You thought the top would be the main target, but that's only really true in a turn battle that you lose.

Yzuei's biggest mistake was not applying basic dogfighting tactics. Like how he was completely unable to shake ScrapMan at certain points, there are some basic rules on how to move in the air, and Trailmakers generally apply physics well. Like the Egg principal.

Every time Scrapman lost, it was because he was flying against his build's strength. Getting above Yzuei or otherwise presenting the unshielded underside of his build.

Day 6: Here's an idea, 3 of you make planes that chase someone in a car, and the planes are loaded with explosives, and the wings detach from the plane to turn into a missile-like thing! You try to hit the car before they hit you with some kind of air defense. The 3 planes would be VERY vulnerable because of the explosives, which is why there are 3!

Competition idea! Reverse Evolution race! Start with a racecar you built. max 100 parts. Then after racing. You have 30 seconds to decide which 10 parts go missing. So next race you only have 90 parts, than 80, 70, 60. How long until you can't race? Last to survive wins!

this was the battle of speed and being difficult to hit against agility and tankiness, and scrapman is the only person i know of who can build somthing so agile and tanky with a large amount of firepower

Do a slight inverse of this. Unlimited power cores, a super limited amount of blocks with an even stricter limit on which blocks can be used. Like bar all of the frame blocks with all body connection points and only use the skeleton frame parts so you limit your building even further. You can have the fastest thing with the most mini guns ever, but you're probably going to crash it quicker than getting hit by your opponent by how small your build is. You might be able to yeet missiles or cannonballs at mach 3, but you'll probably end up running into them when they explode. So it's really the inverse of you can build as powerful of an aircraft you want with unlimited cores, it's your blocks and connection points that are severely limited.

Idea! Aircraft carrier battle: 2V2 or 3V3 Everyone builds a vehicle, 1carrier and 1-2planes per team, the goal is to destroy the enemy carrier, the planes can respawn infinitely and have to take off from the carrier. The planes should have guns/rockets to fight enemy planes, but can only use torpedoes and guns against the carriers,(rockets and bombs would be too easy) so the carrier also has to dodge the torpedoes while letting the planes take off. I hope you like my idea! P.S. ideally with scrapman. I think there would only be time for 1maybe 2 rounds in a video, but there would be so much action!

hey scrapman, here is an idea for a build contest, who can build the better "thrustercraft" essentially a plane that uses no wings/ailerons to pitch, roll, and yaw the plane. instead using thrusters to do the same thing, this would require some handy keybinding to set up but I'm curious if you could get it to work. advanced thrustercrafts can also use no wings for lift instead using strong thrusters to lift the craft like hovers. good luck!

20:35 - Is it superior build, or superior pilot skill? I would like to see you battle in each other's vehicles. If the same vehicle wins every time, it indicates superior build. But if the same player wins, even in a different vehicle, it leans toward skill. Anyway, entertaining as always.

I was actually betting on Yzuei's smart cannons to win that one. They shred in numbers and have a MUCH wider auto aim range than miniguns. For air-to-air builds I always go smart cannons. Tanking saved the day though. I'd love to see a ZERO core limit dogfight.
