1. The crest shown consist of a cylindrical surface of which AB is the base, supported by a structural frame hinged at C. The length of the gate perpendicular to the paper is 10m. Compute the vertical force components of the total pressure AB. (1235.08kN)
2. A container whose height is “h” has a constant cross-sectional area. Half of the container is filled with water and the other half is filled with liquid whose specific gravity is 0.80. Find the ratio of the force exerted by water acting on the lower half to that of oil acting on the other half. (3.25)
3. A rectangular plate 1m. wide by 2.4m long is vertically submerged in water, the shorter edge 2m below and parallel to the water surface. Evaluate how far in meters, below the centroid of the plate is the resultant horizontal force acting on each side of it. (0.15m)
4. A circular gate 1.5m in diameter is inclined at an angle of 45deg. Fresh water stands on one side of the gate to a height of 10m above the center of the gate.
1. Evaluate the total force of the gate (173.4kN)
2. Locate the point of action of the total force from the bottom on the plane of the gate (0.74m)
3. If the gate is hinged at the top, evaluate the force normal to the gate at the bottom that will require to open it in kN. (87.8kN)
5. A triangular plate, 1m wide at the base by 2.4m high is submerged in water with the base at 2m and parallel to the water surface. Evaluate how far in meters below the centroid is the horizontal force acting on each side. (0.114m)
6. An isosceles triangular plate of height 480mm and base 200mm is vertically submerged in water with its vertex at the liquid surface and the base is parallel to the liquid surface.
1. Evaluate the total force acting on one side of the plate (150.68kN)
2. Obtain the location of the force from the center of gravity of the plate in mm. (40mm)
3. Obtain the location of the force from the liquid surface in mm. (360mm)
7. A rectangular gate 1.2m x 3m is acted by water on one side and is positioned with its longer sides parallel to the water surface and the plane of the gate is inclined at 60deg with the horizontal. The top of the gate is submerged 2m vertically below the water surface.
1. Evaluate the total hydrostatic force on the gate. (89kN)
2. Locate the point of action of the total hydrostatic force from the bottom of the plane of the gate. (0.559m)
3. If the gate is hinged at the bottom, evaluate the force normal to the gate at its vertex that will be required to open it in kN. (41.4 kN)

The outro music was an original work of Ting-ting Calzo-Fournier and Jungee Marcelo which was used as a theme song of the 90's kids program of ABS-CBNS "Mathtinik". The outro line was also adapted from the lyrics of the song "maglakbay, mag-enjoy, maglaro, manaliksik, maging Mathinik". The outro music is not ours but belongs to their respective owners.
