I went to Miles of Golf in Cincinnati for a putter fitting. My fitter told me to bring my 3 favorite putters. He put me on Quintic and GC quad with each. He told me one was garbage (previously fitted by another shop), but in fairness, my stroke has significantly changed since that time. One was a broomstick LAB, I bought on a whim, but don't know how to hit. He told my my 34" L.A.B. was perfect "as is". He went through all the numbers with me to prove it. Gave me a tempo drill with a Blast Motion device (I already owned) and said he "had nothing to sell me." Now, that is an amazing experience! Needless to say, that is where I will be going for future fittings. You cannot buy that kind of integrity.

Sure, but I wonder about a few details here. Firstly, did Ping really add his logo without him asking for it? That seems highly unlikely. Secondly, the putter must be carbon steel - was he not talked through materials and told that carbon would rust - and in the UK wet weather, rust fast if not cared for/dried off carefully all the time? It also seems odd to review what he likes and doesn't like given that the whole point of the fitting was to build him a putter to suit his preferences in every way...

The fitting was great, I shopped around and am still using that putter 3 years later and its not going anywhere as its been brilliant for me. Tell you what I'd like to see, Rick getting fit by Ian Fraser at TXG/CC.....now that would be worth it!
@BigDcap8 ай бұрын
The custom program is less about the fitting and more about the customizing a putter to what you want. Sure he could go through a txg fitting but they would not be able to get him a prime tyne with a plumbers neck, sight dot no sight line, raw finish (which is supposed to rust), and the exact weight he wanted. If you where fit for something that needs 45 degrees of toe hang but like the shape of a scotty phantom x11 with a sight dot and super deep milling in a black finish your shit out of luck since txg only has OTRs.
@tonybytheway75438 ай бұрын

@BigDcap8 ай бұрын
@@svk_5104 Scotty custom shop only does weight if there is ports, loft, lie, and paintfill. The custom shop rarely ever offers new finishes for OTRs and they definitely do not do custom hosel adjustments for toe hang, adjust weight for putters with no weight ports, new milling patterns, etc. The only way to get an authentic scotty with all those customizations is as a Circle T which is a lot more expensive than 2k. Sure you can get someone else to do the mods but it is now not authentic through scotty anymore.

I love Ping and everything they do but I feel the fitting process with the iphone cradle has a fatal flaw that can't be as accurate as it needs to be. While the sensors and everything in the iphone are top notch and accurate, I just don't know how you can strap an extra 200+ grams on to the shaft of a putter and expect that someone will putt the same way as when you remove that massive amount of weight. I use the Ping app to practice from time to time but the heft it adds to my putter is more than noticeable on my stroke and how I deliver the putter to the ball. How do you fit someone to a putter that weighs over 700g with the iphone attached and then ship them a putter that then weighs +/- 550g? It's like fitting someone to a driver that has a 220g shaft in it and then delivering an assembled club that only has a 40g shaft. They're going to feel completely different.

Next day I had a brilliant personal fitting with lasers and video and we settled on my custom club , then the price which was substantially higher than my recent Taylor Made Stealth 2 driver but we all know nobody uses their driver as many times as our putter , I then waited almost 6 weeks for the putter to arrive from the USA and I’ve loved it ever since , and I’m always looking at other putters when I visit pro shops , nothing even gets close .

However, my fitting was free and the black Friday deal meant my putter cost £129. It has changed my putting game beyond expectation and love it. Its always relative on a persons budget. Some players will spend £5000 on a set of clubs and accessories and good luck to them players. I think for a club i use on every hole i tend to spend more money on and i can be picky. A driver for instance is just about personal choice and how deep your pockets are. £2000 for a Ping Putter does seem a bit steep. I play a Scotty Cameron and £300 is enough. It does the job for me. Great review as always Rick, not being sponsored by a club manufacturer does have its benefits for reviews for us of course .

You should look into a Lab. I know not everyone is into them. I’ve been a dyed in the wool Scotty putter guy. I only booked the fitting to check lie, loft and length. I started putting with the a Lab Mezz.1. I will continue to collect Scotty’s but I will be gaming a lab until further notice.

Only got dot added for alignment…. The ball sits perfectly in the middle of a fang putter… a line through the centre of the putter will help with alignment for sho

I've had my Cleveland putter for over a year. Same style mallet putter as this ping, all black and it cost me £100 and after 100 or so rounds. It's still in excellent condition. No rust, chips or marks of any kind. The fact that the ping putter has rusted after just a few rounds and cost £2K is absolutely ridiculous. This is definitely a palm face for ping. It's did look nice out of the box though.

Well, agree the experience wasn't that great.... BUT, the blacked out putter is absolutely gorgeous and Rick is putting unreal with it!! Probably should have paid double!

I absolutely love the sound off the face. But yeah, that rust is an issue. Hopefully they'll take care of it for you...

Payed £70 for a triple track putter not long ago. Hole way more puts than before 😊 For £2000 you could get the best coaches to teach you how to putt and how to line up, how to read the greens better.

Maybe its me as a new golfer but ive started hitting my irons reliably and im using some Bridgestone j40s as my first se which i think are like 15 years old so i thought id try my brothers clubs which are more modern but they just feel the same. Granted they are also forged aswell, maybe these foam injected are different. Its just a piece of metal tho same as a putter, there has to be a certain price say £100 where anything over becomes marketing costs.

I paid £20 for a putter fitting at Scottsdale and 450 for the LAB putter. Money well spent, for me anyway.

Hey Rick, I can appreciate that $2000 for any one club/fitting is a lot. What in your opinion would it take from a fitter to make it worth while in your mind. It sounds like they went through a lot of different factors and customizations for you.

if the selling point is a putter that looks the way you want, you can buy a Taylormade TP completely custom colors, shafts, logos, etchings, etc. for $300

I have a matt black ping putter (heppler tyne 3) and it has been played in the wet … still completely fine. They really messed up here. The PR blowback of giving the most subscribed KZbinr a dud club when pushing an incredibly expensive service. Someone had a really bad day at the office! Big ping fan so hope they rectify this. I’m still gaming my i15 irons and they look as good as new.

Really appreciate the fully transparent honesty on this experience. The putter does look maybe 1° too flat in this video but it sounds like you have adapted quite well in recent rounds so probably a moot point.

It is a lot of money I agree with the comments. Assuming this is hand made and milled to your precise specifications by a skilled tradesman and the time taken to be designed on CAD etc I can see the putter being around 1,000 quid or so and then the markup for the 'exclusivity" I can see where they charge what they do. A good fitting with off the shelf putters from lots of manufactures would produce the same results for a third of the price I'm sure.

I have a stock PLD Anser 2 and love it. The fact they charge that much and don’t use Quintic is pretty disappointing and makes me happy I just got the stock option. Plus the finish rusting is no bueno

I could see spending 2000 on an entire bag fitting and maybe getting more than just a putter out of it, but still interesting to see the process that is available. I will say that if I spent 2000 dollars on a putter and it started to show rust on the bottom, I would def be reaching out to them to get it replaced....

with the rust, had that happen to my brand new Scotty - it was due to something they'd used on the greens so i'd check on that. Scotty replaced the putter for me thankfully

I went to club champion and was fitted for driver through gap wedge cost $4000. Results 2 weeks later had my first under par round. I started playing at 61 fitted at 65. There were guys that had been playing forty years longer and still no under par round. One of them went and got fitted same place same guy and he now has an under par round. Was it worth yes.
