Hey rick! I’m a mechanical engineering major and was also curious how high the ball went so I did some math. With the info you gave (85 mph club head speed, 70 degrees loft (ish), 23 total yards, and about 3 seconds of flight time) I found that the ball went about 75 feet in the air. This isn’t exact cause of the rough perimeters given. But it gives you some idea at least!
@jubuttib3 жыл бұрын
Would be interesting to hear what the launch angle actually was. Looking at TXG's recent test of the Kirkland Signature vs. SM8 wedges, with a 56° wedge the launch angle was around 30-32°, and with a 60° wedge it was around 31-34°, depending on the shot. That's with wedges that really grip the ball and give you high spin, so if this was a lower spin wedge (as Rick mentioned it might be) then it could launch higher, but still I'd be surprised if it was anything like 70° degrees.
@Reavix13 жыл бұрын
As a total distance travelled through the air with the curve, or at the apex height?
@mitchdavies84153 жыл бұрын
@Reavx the ball carried 23 yards, or 69 feet, and considering it’s a 70 degree club, I highly doubt Brian means the total length of the curve was 75 feet…
@willmc44032 жыл бұрын
@@golf398 It seems like that would be an upper bound, since air resistance would only slow the descent, and I don't see another force that could be acting on the ball

I have had a 70 degree wedge for 3-4 years now and it is an awesome club in certain situations. The ball really gets up in the air quickly and can stop almost on dime when it lands on the green. Just have to make sure I dont get too much under the ball, cause I have taken some pretty good swings in thick grass with the wedge and i can get completely under the ball and the ball stays almost right where it originally was. You do need to practice some with a 70 degree wedge to get the feel of how far the ball will travel.
@michaelmathieson11142 жыл бұрын
Just a question is there no legal limit to the loft of a club in the rules of golf
@dathyr12 жыл бұрын
@@michaelmathieson1114 Good question. I havent heard about any, I assume if the club meets all the other standard specs of club making, it is probably legal. All you have to do is open or close the face on any club and you change the loft angle. So with my 70 degree wedge, i can even increase the loft on that club to maybe even a 75-80 degree wedge. My 70 degree wedge is great for short distances and dropping the golf ball next to the pin with not much green to work with.

I've never been big into golf, but my late father was quite the enthusiast. Contrary to what some say about lofting golf balls, I recall times when my father practiced his loft (flop) shots. He'd instruct me to stand still and would tell me, "Stay put and try to catch the golf ball after I hit it." It was astonishing how many of those balls were within catching range, and he never once risked hitting me.

It bounced on the green and rolled a little bit towards the flag and it went IN. The bunker shot is basically what Dustin Johnson said about the 64* wedge. There's a video of the TM Pro's in a bunker hitting the new Hi-Toe wedges.
