What I found in all of these water pumps if the timing cover starts leaking oil and the fill cap gasket gets hard and starts leaking oil the oil runs down the intake side of the block and swells the oring and brakes the weakened plastic from age I've also seen brake clean swell the oring and brake a brand new pump

I am full blooded German American. My grandfather design the return mechanism on small gas engines ( Briggs Stratton ) type. So we no longer have to wrap a rope around crank . BUT I don’t get the way they designed these water pumps and where they put them in the engine 🤦🏼‍♂️

Are you familiar with the auxiliary coolant pumps on the gen 3 ea888s ? Got a 2016 GTI with a suspected bad aux pump, intermittent locked heater support pump code p16c700. The pump also makes intermittent grinding sounds when the pump is running. It looks like a real pain in the butt to reach as its right below the turbo. It's a lot easier to access on the gen 1 ea888s. Thanks for the vids

was watching many videos on this water pump issue because nephews Audi has a leak and I am a professional mechanic 35 plus years just not on audis so doing research because old enough and smart enough to know what i am getting into because I want to only fix it once and do it right. Noticed you did not cover if you replace just the pump assembly and upgrade to an aluminum one you might need longer bolts in some areas because the aluminum might be thicker or thinner and the bolts be either to short or to long because the pump housing is thicker or thinner ? and YEAH watched you 20 minute pump install and seen the used pump you installed etc.

Hello @NaptownTuner Have you ever seen the plastic, ball shaped flow control, valve pieces disintegrate and get lodged in the heater core? This being the root cause of intermittent, cold heater function.

I changed my water pump, to a metal one. Still have a leak, but it coming from under the union joint to the oil cooler. I ordered two gaskets for the oil cooler. Am i diagnosing this correctly?

I’m general it’s a reliable engine replace the thermostat, oil separator, and with high miles I’ve seen chain / guide issues / will need tensioners, might need to do cam adjusters the car has to be in nice enough shape to do the work or just drive it until it bends valves and do the heads too, more rare and much less consumption but they can have oil consumption issues. All the same high miles stuff like water pump alternator hpfp fuel sensor. I only like the 2.0t because it’s easy to work on and parts are cheaper. The 3.0t does make good power / for the fuel economy and can make like 400 with just a flash. Most of the 3.0t’s I’ve worked on personally were in warranty, I only did 1 oil consumption piston job for dealer warranty vs 1000+ 2.0t engines

Hey naptown, I got a 2009 a4 Quattro 2.0t, I’ve been chasing multiple misfires , redid coils injectors,plugs the whole 9, come to find out my plugs are getting oil on them , compression is 180 on all cylinders and leak down test is good, Amy advice on to what else can cause this?

Ok it's me again. Last August my water pump took a crap on me. My coolant vacated the car. I got to the nearest gas station and parked it. It was running fine just had a bunch of warning lights going off. I called for a wrecker he got there about 45 minutes later. When I started the car to drive it up on the wrecker it was running extremely rough. Got it towed to a shop nearby bc I was 2 hours from home. Towed it myself 5 days later put a new pump in and can't get it to start. It turns over but no spark????????? HELP NAPTOWN

Great content. Just wondering why you would not recommend replacing only the thermostat. Seems like you don't need to pull the pump to do so therefore I am curious. Thermostat failed in my A5 & nothing leaking. Don't wish to pull the pump if no need. Thanks.
