Two quick question I would love to make this project, but, the easiest way to integrate it into my very simple setup is with an optical audio cable. Do you have any recommendations on what parts I should get to add an optical audio port? I think this is something I am going to look into. Also have you played with torching the front panel of wood to make the grain stand out more?

You can get one of those cheap chineese 5.1 decoders and modify them, they can decode an digital spdif signal (a.k.a signal from an optical audio cable) and output 5.1 channels. With some work you can make the 5.1 output to an 2.1 ;)

Great video! I have been looking at 5.1 sound bar systems (Vizio) but your video has given me some additional ideas as I also just purchased a table saw, drill press and miter saw! With some thought I think I can get these basic ideas into a full 5.1 bluetooth system for surround sound. Should be super sound as I can pick the drivers and it will be good looking too.

david there is more to a 5.1 system then just the speakers. first and for most, your stereo needs to support 5.1 and the content your watching/listening too has to be 5.1, only way to have true 5.1 system on all sounds (music, movies, etc) is to go Dolby digital live.

I love all your videos. I find myself in a limbo between in utter zen and peace of mind, or raging jealousy of your job and your life (of what I can see) :) I am 15 and looking at different options for what I want to do after education, working with such beautiful tools and materials plus getting such an amazing product at the end of it really appeals to me. If you get a moment it would be very helpful to me if you could explain how you got to where you are now, and benefits / cons to what you do (I am presuming you do it as a bill payer and not just a hobby) Any information would be greatly appreciated. Good luck.

@JDs_RandomHandle

I'm an electrical engineering student and was wondering the same thing. I've built a few simple speakers with copper wire and a magnet; granted they sounded like crap but it worked.
@KirbyMeetsAudio
@KirbyMeetsAudio 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! But I don't solely focus on getting the best sound possible. I try to find a balance between form and function, using acoustical engineering when needed but still allowing for the project to look good. Theres a lot more forgiveness to speaker design than people think. Thanks for watching!
@waynegale2729
@waynegale2729 7 жыл бұрын
Justin Rush when you build speaker cabinets, best to use MDF wood and use a online software to measure the size of your cabinet and spacing of speakers based on the type of speaker drivers you using, to give best acoustic sound. you can use a thing layer of pine wood for finishing over the top of the MDF wood for the wood grain look., then use electronic crossover if you can afford it, that's what what high end speaker companies do. never use pine for the entire build as pine gives un-natural resonance and inaccurate acoustic bass sound stage. MDF wood is always best used for speaker cabinets. I've built many speaker cabinets and every driver is different, so online measure based on driver used is best, as some drivers may be need to be ported and others not. this guy just design a cabinet based on wrong materials no measure based on the drivers for accurate acoustic sound either. It's going to sound like a small alarm clock radio with lots of distortion and lack of bass.

awesome work bro.. u might have added some rock wool or glass wool sheets inside the subwoofer cabin.. it will help u to get more good clean bass response by cutting down the higher freq reflections..also u might hve used a good passive network instead of a capacitor .... An inductor coil network can enhance ur subwoofer also it can filter the higher frequencies entering to the woofer.

Yes but u can hear distortion, high and low levels if you have semi-decent headphones\speakers, which most people these days have, so hearing it is kind of essential. Without hearing the sound its pointless to even start on a project such as this. Love the vids anyway.

Nice diy video but I do have a few questions in regards to the build. First would be why do you choose to use pine boards for the speaker cabinets? Never building speakers I am unsure of how the sound would be from using pine wood. Second question is in regards to the sub box. I couldn't help but notice that the board looks cupped in the video at about 7:22. Is the board truly cupped like that? And finally after I saw the nice mitered case work for the soundbar, I thought maybe you would have used a better idea for the sub box rather then a simple butt joint. All in all a nice build and good video. Thank you for sharing.

Ok I like the recessed design of the speakers but in terms of sound quality which was better flush mount or recess? I have built a couple of speaker enclosures and the recess mount always acted like a wave guide. The sound was always muted or distorted compared to flush mounting.

Nice build on the cabinet ! Very tight ,meters I did woodworking professionally for over 20 years and longer as my hobby/passion. I don’t. Really know why but the power of masking tape has always impressed me on how much. Force you can get on a joint in commercial Woodworking. I often had to. Glue 8 ‘ miter joints in the feild Using that method on stain grade veneers glued up on mdf substrates to wrap concrete columns. Or outside corners on paneling jobs Where did you. Get your speaker design and Products ? I’m a woodworker not a clue on what to use that will sound good and ive tried to look for kits to see what they used i was hoping to find a. Plan or video on building. High end home speakers specifically Bose quality sound I’m 55 years old and the way ive always bought speakers was. To go and listen to them so i never really learned how to buy all the components and build them although when i get them home ive looked at the way they are actually made. I think i could have made them better ? I figured there would be complete plans somewhere ? Another Speaker i would like to build is a pair of the old Realistic Mach ones i had in the 80s they were a tough set of speakers and. Held up awesome to being played loud with. A lot of power i can find them online but because of their size and weight most people dont want to ship them ive found parts like the crossovers and tweeters. Can be had on Ebay and new Whoofers can be. Found. Online listed as direct replacements so ive done some reasearch but only compiled notes. Not a complete list my hope was to find a old pair locally for cheap and. Make my own plans and parts list but many people think those are worth a lot of Money even. Ones that are beat to hell as a lot of the older gear Is popular with the younger Audiophiles these days only 15 or so years ago. People were. Dumping old stereo equipment for free and very cheap prices i used to cruise thru second hand stores and look at what they had. In the electronics sections i had a decent pair of speakers so i wasnt buying any more at that time but sadly those were stolen
When there was no ready-made option, I decided to do it myself.
