May 21 preparing the area for vegetables. Manure was just spread on the top section, really does not aid traction. Probably rained the next day.

It would be interesting to see a video about the development of the 2+2, if there is such a video. I’m guessing that it originally it wasn’t going to have such a long nose. The last tractor that was bought for my family’s farm was a new 3388 2+2. I got to put probably 50 hours on it including driving down public roads. It had the auxiliary lights option and digital dashboard. We wish it had rear differential lock and auxiliary fuel tank on the rear. It was still nice.

Enjoyed your video. But damn, how many shanks you pulling? Is there no fluid in the tires? Surprised by lack of traction. Not knocking you or your tractor. Just surprised. We pulled 11 shanks with a 1586 in 4th or high first. Turned up to around 200 pto hp, fluid in the duals and seldom knew it was back there. Is your soil just that wet and compacted? I really am a fan and not a hater in spite of the way this post came off. Best of luck. You're a hard working young man.

Fresh manure on it and dry tires. And its heavy clay, like they made bricks 100 yards from where this video was taken. 12 shanks

@@boehmfarm4276 Thanks for your reply. After a little research I see that tractor doesn't have the power or the weight I thought it did. We have a lot of red clay here. Inner and outer weights. Plus fluid in the tires are a must for heavy pulling. And yes I know about making brick.

Hey! Just came across your channel and recently subscribed. Are you guys seeming to have decent power with that 2+2? I keep hearing that they are kind of gutless and whatnot. Do you guys seem to be doing okay with yours? I’ve got all John Deere at my farm
@boehmfarm42765 жыл бұрын
3*88 2+2s are extensions of 10, 14 and 1586s. What you have is an 86 series with mfwd, that turns tighter than the mfwd axles of the time. Farmers saw the big front tires and expected a 2+2 to be like a 4586. 2+2s weigh more than an 86, but the four large tires give it better floatation. Now I have a theory that IH didn't send these out from the factory already turned up because of farmers taking out 86 series rear ends; they left more room for error when the farmer turned the screws. It's like a father having a daughter and being disappointed she's not a boy... just wrong expectations.
@jwhitley101whitleyfarms95 жыл бұрын

Why farmers in US use narrow tires instead of wide in thier tractors?
@lukestrawwalker2 жыл бұрын
Because they can run duals on the highway and be legal, which ain't the same as Europe. Wider tires are WAY more expensive as well. Plus most guys like straddle duals for row crop work; wide tires don't work in row crops because they run down the crop. OL J R :)

Couple tips on articulated tractors....... Throttle down when turning and try to only do hard pulls going straight. It will save wear and tear in the driveline. Believe me it ain't fun changing them out and don't spare the grease gun. Lot of stress and strain in the hinge pins and stearing cylinders. Go ahead and put those duals on. It will make a big difference.

@@SKC640 unfourtunately to re-tire with 4 new wide singles it would cost more then this old girls worth. I haven't flipped yet and had many close calls also the newer JD h series they decided to make a transmission code when it comes on locks the machine into neutral was going up a hill and that code came on and almost killed me!
