Brad's First Time Round Baling

We had enough square baling at this field, so we rounded up the last few windrows. Brad had a learning experience of making round bales. Lets see how he performs!

1586 was our big tractor growing up and the case 1070 was the 'new' tractor even though it was definitely not new but to us it was. We used bail thrower and rack on our hay wagons, never had a round or large square bailer.

Brad wants to go to a thrower eventually. I would just skip to a New Holland stacker wagon.

my dad built the 14 ft high hayshed with add-on drive-thru in 1973 for the sole purpose of pulling in from the rain 4 wagon loads of hay just like you said. it's the best money spent AND unloading small squares off by hand 4 loads at a time goes way way faster. i'll take a hayshed over barn haymound any day.today i've got the '68 mustang parked in there but someday might find a way to park the ford up in the haymound. lol

Four wagons long is a sizely shed. We pulled three wagons in the barn behind the 1466 last night and I thought that was long.

For working with a new Holland chain baler doing excellent try to find a veneer 504 or 605 and a v rake the time you will save will pay for it and the bales brings better money 1300 and 1650 on weight

I used to have a round Baler similar to that one with the chains. Didn't work for me in shorter hay.

If its second cut, I am making squares. If it's short first cut hay..... O.o that's not good.

Do you get most of your income at the end of the year when all the crops are in or is it spread out through the year?

My income is lacking in May, June and July. Hay sales pick up in August, and I'll be about out of grain in April. Mom and dad have the greenhouse, vegetable and cows, which help spread out the flow.

Well he did pretty good also don't know where this is happening but I'm in San Antonio texas happens to be boehm is my mom's maiden name but she is no longer with use .I find my newholland 660 round baler does great job also.

Well looks like Brad is better at rolling than his destructor the reason I say that is it looks like either a Hesston or John Deere or Gehl roll flat and can be a table top! LOL!

I saw the price of netting at TSC. And I could buy four or five more of our round baler before I get to a net wrap baler. And I like the chains better than belts. I do see how net wrap bales survive better outside.

did you always grow steers and row crop or did milk at one time.

Dad always wanted to milk, but so far it has only been the steers. The biggest change I have seen is doubling the steer production in 2007. Vegetables and row crops have stayed the same until I started renting ground three years ago.

Round bail looks bad, too mushy and twine sinks in bail, also I noticed as you were filming the bail pickup, your grass looks poor quality too. That International Tractor is in awful condition, you don't seem to take care of your equipment much. I know its an old tractor to begin with, but shit, bad job in. keeping it clean, etc.
