Have lived for 35 years in Porto and whilst I miss the Australian landscape, I have found all I need. That’s a beautiful location to live in. Yes, thank goodness for the chemist shops❤. If the walking is too much, invest in the monthly bus/metro/train pass for 40 euros. Great interview.

Thanks for the interview. I enjoyed it very much and it's always nice to hear feedback from someone who has lived in an area for a while. I was surprised, however, that (unless I missed it) there wasn't any discussion about the language. Maybe he was fluent before arrival and it simply wasn't an issue for him, but for people considering a move it can be helpful to hear about that aspect of the experience.

I'm from Porto, and I have been living in Scottsdale, Arizona, for 40 years. I love Arizona, but this video is making nostalgically of Porto. This summer has been extremely hot here.

Great interview! Usually we get the interviews of people relocating because of cost of living and they focus mainly on the culture shock aspect and differences from where they're from originally. Most complaints come from people who barely or never travelled, here we have someone we'll versed in European culture of many nations who knew what he was getting into. I was born in Portugal but have been in the US for almost 60 years. I'm never more relaxed than when I'm back several times a year in my home country. Also would like to explain to anyone thinking of moving, that these are the pricier areas of the country. Porto, Lisbon, Algarve etc are touristy areas and costs are higher. I have properties 45 minutes south of Porto airport, close to Aveiro, and being more rural has a big impact on costs. Can still hit the major supermarkets, electronics stores, etc with a short drive. Everything you think you might need is only a short commute away while enjoying a much quieter lifestyle! Of course, being a native and speaking the language makes my experience much easier.

I enjoyed this interview very much. I'd really love to know the size of Jeff's apartment (plus if it's 1 bed, 1 bath or something else, etc.). When people discuss how you can live for a certain amount and that rent is around X, they often don't include what that means. Size matters sometimes :) Thank you!

A large beer on the river in Porto is over 5 euro! Yes, small restaurants are cheap, but all restaurants near the river are expensive. Some parts of porto are really expensive.

Come live in São João de Ver, it's cheaper(an 3 room apartment is 140k euros) and is 20 minutes from Oporto!

Hi: I became a widower in Argentina in 2017. I have been searching in Portugal, in the Lisbon area, since 2018. My rent in Coimbra came through KZbin, not WhatsApp 🤣 I’ve never seen the apartment I rented from Tigre in Argentina in November 2021. When I arrived, the only thing I didn’t know was where the aircon was installed 🤣. Take into account that in Argentina the sun travels in the north, so my balcony in Coimbra is South oriented. Well, now in December, I’ll be here 3 years and very happy. One thing about the Coimbra Stadium area: the inclines are terrible, far steeper than Porto 😁. The north of Portugal is fabulous

Was wondering about how easy it's been living there speaking English? I plan on visiting for a month with ideas of maybe trying to move there. Obviously if I were to move there I would learn the language but how easy is it to live there speaking English? Porto specifically.

Just a suggestion: consider indexing these vlogs so people can skip ahead to discussion topics that are more relevant to them. I for one don't care much for the personal reasons of why they decided to become expats, which always seem to take up an inordinate amount of time at the beginning of these vlogs.
@internationalliving3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! We appreciate the feedback. Many of our readers and viewers are interested in the "why" behind these life-changing decisions, which is why we highlight personal stories. However, we’ve added timestamps to make it easier for viewers to jump to the topics that matter most to them. Hopefully, this will help you find the sections that interest you more quickly!
