I actually plan to watch every single one of your films. In fact, 3 or 4 of the "log house repair" series I've watched several times.

That is good to hear, that there is something of interest for you. Do you work with timber houses?

Perfect video. This type of videos is most valuable on youtube, because you can learn from it , if you need. You made a very good thing with sharing this with us. Thanks a lot.

hey it is my pleasure, thanks for your interest, it gets a bit easier to make as I get more used to the equipment and software. I have had a few people say I should edit more out, but for me the details are the valuable bits, I am more into the slow tv thing. I'm sure there is a balance that works, not sure I'm there yet though. Regards and thanks for your kind comments.

I think your English is very good. Some of us like to learn new words of a language we've never heard before. I would let that bother me in the least. I enjoy watching you work doing something I've never seen done before thus learning how to do it sometime in my lifetime. Keep up the good work.

I have watched your stav laft video several times, I really enjoy your craftsmanship. I love sharp hand tools and the sound end grain makes as it curls before a sharp blade! Thank you for sharing your talents.

one solution for mortise : pellenc carving guide ;)
@jackryan16735 жыл бұрын
G'day Lucas. Excellent series and workmanship. Just a quick question regarding your mortices. Did you consider using the chainsaw to plunge cut them as opposed to using the multi-tool? And if so, what was your reasoning? Thanks in advance from Australia.
@LucasRichardStephens5 жыл бұрын
Jack, hello, plunge cutting is more tricky when the beam is horizontal, and the width of the mortice is less than the hight of the the saw bar so i would end up having to carve out the mortice with multiple passes which is likely no quicker and maybe a little more strenuous, and certainly would cover the beam with chain oil. It could just be that I honed in on the method I found most practical under the circumstances without much consideration, just following my gut.

I have really enjoyed your videos and your skills with your axe and chainsaw are impressive. Are you working from drawings you prepared or that your client provided? I'm planning a similar project in the near future and I like construction technique you have decided upon. Please keep the videos coming.
@LucasRichardStephens7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I drew the plans, based on the wishes of the client. The dimensions are based on local barns that have stood 100-150 years. It could have been two story using the same timber, so a little over dimentioned. Best of luck with your project, regards to you both, Lucas.

Haven't seen the Satlav post and beam thingy yet. I think when you put advertisements in your video's the person viewing needs to actually watch the whole advertisement. If I press SKIP AD I think they can tell how much of the AD the viewer seen. I haven't got a clue how it works but I'm sure BOT IS WATCHING and CALCULATING percentages watched. You should put 2 or 3 Adds into your video's if they are around 30mins long and tell us to go grab a brew while the adds are on ☺ Impressed with your chainsaw work. That's a handy little chain and bar. Would a chain mortiser speed up the mortising? Or do you find your system is quicker?
@LucasRichardStephens6 жыл бұрын
Hi John, I think a chain mortice would be faster, and less demanding. I looked at buying one but this is not a technique in much demand here in Norway, this may be the last time I make a timber frame house, so the expense is not justified. Thanks for the comment on the ads, why a particular film achieves a very low rpm is a mystery, but I will bare in mind your advice, all the best, Lucas.

Lucas Richard Stephens what attracted me to your channel was the Post and Beam timbers and same attractions to Wranglerstar and Pure Living For Life channels. Those 2 channels notice what you had noticed about advertising and they have both did videos on the subject and explained that their Video Titles are going to be CLICKBAIT titles. You do really good videos and thousands more should see what your doing, I think it would help lift your channel to a whole new different level if you had to see how those 2 channels had to make drastic changes in their titles for them to survive. Wranglerstar gets over 300 thousand hits on his videos each day which and Pure Living For Life gets over 100 thousand hits and they are building a post and beam house on 5 acres of land in Canada. The point I'm making is, Your channel should be be getting over 250k hits per day with your contents. It's all about big timbers woodsman logs the tools and tool reviews and talking to the camera. They have both addressed the issue and turned it around and are making a really comfortable living. You'll see how comfortable a living they make when you see their clickbait titles but, their channels are child friendly. It seems to me that if you have a problem like you had with your building being 30mm off and all you had to do was shampher you're new timber to make it fit, these 2 channels and many more would make a big drama out of it lol as you didn't and just went ahead and did what any carpenter would. Their Video Titles would be "MIGHT NEED TO BRING THIS BUILDING DOWN!!!" or "OMG ALL THIS WORK FOR NOTHING!!!" they milk it lol. You need to try it man, and re upload 12 hour intervals so you can get double watched. Maybe look for their videos of them explaining to their viewers why they had to go Clickbait on us. They do explain it well for everybody so nobody is loosing out. Your channel is awesome Lucas, take it to another level.
@LucasRichardStephens6 жыл бұрын
Thanks John I have seen both of those channels and their comments on click bait. They have made a big commitment to their youtube channels. My commitment is much smaller, I share some of what I do with minimal effort regarding polished films. My commitment is to my work not so much to youtube. Thanks very much for your encouragement, I will think about what you have said and if I find that I can not afford to take time out of my day to make my films, maybe I will do some more of the commercial techniques to cover the cost. Best wishes Lucas

Thank Joseph, I more or less recognise that add funding is not a thing to worry to much about. If there are fewer adds it is better viewing for those interested in the content. I get paid for the work I am filming, and the little extra time it takes to set up a camera now and then I just knock off. On the day I made this one I wondered why the adds had dropped in value from a dollar for a thousand served adds to 10cents for a thousand. But why I wondered if google would stoop so low I don't know. Normally I would expect such a corporation to take from the poor and give to the rich. If I were to follow the advice of youtube for my film making I would just be doing their bidding. Maybe one day a whistle-blower inside google will expose some or other advertising fraud and we can do a class action against them. Welcome as a new subscriber.
