i drilled mine out all the way thru the manifold and then plugged the outside hole with a 4-40 screw. then if i test the port on the valve cover and it does not suck i can pull that screw and clean ut the pvc. one more thing i'm thinking of doing is just installing a pvc valve.

That's a great idea! But I would go with the catch can on the cover PVC system because at low vacuum high speed and under load the blowby is much more than just idling. But mount it below the radiator hose so any oil and water flows directly into the catch can no elevation or the line will fill and not flow. I put a oil filler cap that has the gm one way valve this protects you from blowing the rear main seal. 2.4 are actually good engines but mobile one synthetic oil with the dextos additive and mobile one synthetic oil filter and never let the level drop not even a little bit! If you have a 2.4 that uses oil you take carbon remover remove the plugs pour 4 ounces in each cylinder let it sit for 24 hours and rotate no plugs blow it out and install plugs. This will remove the carbon from the rings. Gm uses low tension rings to get high mileage and efficiency, but didn't plan on carbon buildup causing rings to stick. Did 4 equinox oil burners and after the treatment no oil consumption! You can use sea foam instead of carbon remover or even penetrating fluid like blaster 50

That diesel noise is actually the follower for the high-pressure fuel pump. It was visible in your video inside the hole. It’s a $40 part replace that and all that noise goes away.

So, Mr. Tim...this is three years after the video you made...I made a huge mistake of buying a 2012 Equinox with the 2.4L as well. I saw another video of a mechanic doing the same thing of making that small passage way a little larger for the pcv system to breathe better. Is that a better long term fix than drilling a hole in the plastic intake as so many others have done and inserting a small screw? I'm trying to avoid doing that. I'm subscribed now.

@@timzauto thanks for the info, Sir. I should get the Delco FC219 vented cap in the mail tomorrow. I'm trying to do all I can to preserve this junk as long as possible for the time being. The Equinox has 166,000 miles on it. That 2.4L makes as much racket as the old "Iron Duke".

So does it push the oil past the rear main and ruin the seal or only leaking past it because of the pressure?

@timzauto
@timzauto 3 жыл бұрын
Well,the problem with that is you will never know if you're getting sufficient ventilation from the engine,and if that happens The PCM cannot make up for that loss of airflow, so you’ll have a really bad rich condition.When carbon builds up on the backside of the valves, it works like an insulator not allowing the valve to cool down properly when it’s in contact with the seat.I'm not a fan of small engines with gdi or turbo,but that is the future.
