Equinox 2.4L Oil Burning Fixed.....Probably

So far the Seafoam and the addition of a PCV valve seem to have worked. In the last 200 miles, there has been no discernable oil usage. I will keep updating and hopefully, it is fixed.

What was your equinox doing before you put the Pcv in the oil filler cap was in blow by or suction

It was blow by. It had it pretty bad.

any issues with brake booster not having enough vacuum after tapping the line? Yes there is a check valve, and you are after it, but does it still supply enough vacuum for the brake booster to operate normally?

I’m having trouble taking the break booster hose off. I unclipped and slid the metal clasp off but it just wouldn’t budge. Feels like I might break that electrical cord on top if I pull more. Any advice?

You don't have to pull off the line. You should be able to cut the line in two before the check valve. Then you can add the T and run your hose.

@willjj46 probably not. I haven't cleaned it out since and it's still doing great.

It should be. I got it at Wal Mart, but most auto parts stores should have it.

Yes, it seems to work well. I used 3/8 tubing. The parts store I was in didn't have a T big enough, so I used a 1/2 inch pex fitting. I had one left over from plumbing my house. It worked but was a little tight.

Sounds like a leak in the vacuum line. could be in one of the clamps or the oil cap.

No, the check valve should prevent that. I haven’t checked that though.

Mine is now sucking a lot no more blow by or so it seems so I want to do the valve deal like you did but want to make sure it'll work before I do so

I would say the pcv will help it. It is hard to tell if you have blowby after adding the pcv valve since it goes in the oil cap. I do know oil usage is good now. Maybe uses half a quart per oil change.

The pcv valve is made in the valve cover

Unfortunately, they removed the PCV on this vehicle and just engineered the small hole in the intake to do the job. It doesn't work very well as it clogs up easily. I wanted one in the valve cover, but didn't want to take it off and drill it out. Putting it in the oil cap gives the same result and keeps the valve cover intact. I know most vehicles do have it in the valve cover but they decided to try something new I guess. Hopefully, they went back to putting it where it belongs in subsequent models.

Like mine 2015 paid 9k for it paid ot off back in summer dropped to liability insurance two months later October daughter totaled it going home frome work in 25 mph zone. It was a oil user i liked it. Sun roof ppower everything cd touch screen pioneer system factory. Yeah heated seats. Oh well she wasn't hurt to bad so yeah.

I bought a new oil cap that has a pressure valve built into it. I think it does the same job.

Can you do a oil cap, paper test? You did it on the before and the other car as well.

Good point. I should have shown that test again. It is better, but still has a little blowby. I think the rings are just worn some due to running with low oil. It runs fine, but it will make the paper wiggle a bit still.

@@roxybrunette It is doing great actually. I do the Seafoam cleaning at every oil change. Half a bottle in the crankcase for the last 500 miles and half the bottle in the intake. I change oil at every 3000 miles and there is now no perceptible oil use between changes. I had still been using the cheapest oil at Walmart but now that the oil burning problem is gone I am going to switch to Pennzoil on the next change.
