I am so sorry, but I am cracking up at the commentary here... "A man of scant brains..." And then after the Arian church caused a major fire in the city... I think already a comedic satire movie could be made about the bishop and his time.

Also I know this probably gets asked a lot, but is there a complete compendium of all Catholic history anywhere? Or would I have to weave it together myself from historians across the ages. Is there a good list of "100 books across the ages of all Catholic history" that I can put in my Amazon wishlist to make my own library some day?

Bless your ❤️, You're asking for whole library without saying you want a library 😃. This is the start on this quest, it will take a few years though... www.ccel.org/fathers PS. If at all possible, I would suggest to build a strong foundation into the Greco-roman culture as both the OT and NT came into our world in Greek. classics.princeton.edu/programs/graduate/reading-lists PS. PS. If you can learn, at least to read, Koine Greek and Latina Vulgara it would make all the difference. PS. PS. PS If you do all these within less than 4 years you would come to the strange realization that you should have joined the Seminary 😃

Justin, thanks for your kind comments. For the period under discussion, my favorite book is Robert Louis Wilken's THE FIRST THOUSAND YEARS. I've edited the "Reclaiming Catholic History" series for Ave Maria Press, so I can personally vouch for all those volumes. They'll take you through the major eras, right down to our own day. If you have further questions, feel free to email me directly. I don't often see comments. Mike Aquilina

@@athanasiuscontramund Thank you kindly for your recommendations sir, I have just ordered them after some paychecks came in. I also donated to the audio today online as I hope this series never ends and goes all the way to our present day.

Thank you so much for your contribution, Justin! Just saw this comment. By the way, I recently picked up this Cluny Media re-print of a history of the general councils. I haven't read it yet, but as Mike's series only covers the patristic era, you might find it interesting. clunymedia.com/products/the-church-in-crisis --Thomas Mirus
