Relay station so that you can have the freedom to sit or stand somewhere that would usually put your control link at risk. This will work best if you are already using a video repeater which I know many Dragonlink users are. You can use PPM rx if you like but this will limit you to 8 channels as far as I could see. Very nice description. I think video is doable too, but you should use different bands, eg, 2.4 to 5.8. There may be some challenge getting it all to play nicely. Makes me wonder if you could use a large helium balloon to relay from high above a treeline or any other obstacles.

Yeah I made a video relay a few years back, there's a link to my vid on this in the video description if you're interested. It'a 1.3g to 5.8g. Yeah a balloon or a quad up high are options for people with a serious mission or a terrible flying environment. I've seen it done with a glider relaying a video feed before :) Cheers

Yeah that's true you can get them for around $10-15 from memory 👍🏻 as mentioned, I only used this one because it was sat in a toolbox unused

Guess it gets really cold on top of that mountain....lol...So, a relay on video and control now then...Great solution though mate. I'm guessing your control link will benefit a little from the vertical and well positioned UHF antenna too...🤔🤔😯🇬🇧

It sure does. It’s in the days where it’s cold but also windy, my hands can only take so much even when wearing gloves 😬 and yes it will benefit from being held in the best orientation the whole time, as it definitely doesn’t when I’m holding it 😅 cheers

Just put together a 1.3ghz diversity ground station with the help of your videos. Now I'm curious to try this also. Can I still do this if I use a 2.4 frsky to crossfire 900mhz repeater and 1.3ghz? Thanks for the videos!

No I only get telemetry about the link between my tx and the 2.4 rx. I never use telemetry from DL either. The DL tx can transmit its received telemetry via wifi/bluetooth so I guess it would still work, but I don't know it's range. Cheers

Yes it can, as long as you’re ok with being limited to 8channels. Or if you can find a 2.4g that will output more channels over ppm. The rx I used can be switched between SBUS and PPM, SBUS is 16ch and PPM only 8

Hi, in order to help you understand, please tell me what you are referring to here? The Dragonlink transmitter when connected to the radio transmitter is an 'External tx' and therefore is configured as one on your radio tx.

@@theHDRflightdeck the part where you configure the external module is for when you fly with the DL bolted to your tx. Because we have changed it’s input to SBUS it will no longer work with your radio outputting ppm

Would think telemetry at transmitter would be somewhat redundant, as already have telemetry via FPV OSD. That said, it might be of use if wanted to set up audio warnings on transmitter.

@@justinsurla6043 The 2.4g for the relay... well with direct LOS it will be way longer range than you will need it for a relay. Obviously range is reduced if using it through walls of a building etc. In the air I've never fully tested the range of 2.4g but I know people have done 10km in the right conditions. Dragonlink control range is meant to be around 40km... but like anything it depends on your setup. People have done 100km+ with Dragonlink on the right antennas. Your English is fine :)
