UPDATE: Please read the two minor corrections to my video in my video description. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please make sure your plane flies well in an autonomous mode such as RTH before attempting a WP mission. I recommend higher altitude and close range for your earlier tests. Good luck! :D

Tx for the video, it inspired me to try flying a mission, which I did a few minutes ago, successfully. I was just watching the FPV video back, and even though the speed did take a while to match, it did seem to get to my desired speed, eventually, and then maintain it. That might have just been coincident. Will try it again tomorrow.

RTH speed changes once you load a mission. Cruise set at 1550 perfect without mission. Once you load a mission and use RTH 1550 is too slow. With 2.5 anyway.

Hi Phil, I haven't noticed any issue with my RTH speed when using a mission and as I mention, I always use RTH at the end.

TEST COMPLETE: When NOT selecting RTH at end of mission the plane will loiter around the final WP at the altitude you had set for that particular WP.
@charlesmarseille1233 жыл бұрын
And it will still display WP (and not mission ended or something similar). From there, if you toggle the mission switch off, it will loiter in place, and if you toggle once more mission switch on, it will go back to WP1 and start over again.

Good video and useful information Adam, Thank you. I have WP set up on my fixed wing and a 6" Quad. One question about Inav Missions on a quad. When the quad arrives at a way point it almost stops, turns toward and then continues to the next WP. Does anyone know how to program INAV to 'fly through’ the way point much like a fixed wing does without stopping. I guess you could call it a 'smooth transition' at the WP.
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊 not sure on the quad question, never had a quad on iNav. Maybe setting the distance from wp to consider it reached would help?

@@AdamGdoesFPV Just for anyone curious...I made the 'WP reached distance' much larger but the quad still abruptly stops at the way point, turns, and then continues toward the next WP. A bit annoying but at least it will complete a mission.

@@53roger seems like strange behaviour. The wp functionality is very simple in iNav maybe on a quad you’d be better off with something like Ardu
@Videolinquency4 жыл бұрын
Very clear and instructive, thanks a lot! Getting ready to move into iNav from Vectors, but I use slower models than you seem to do, and don't like the idea of specifying a certain ground speed - that spells battery drainage in headwinds and stalls in tailwinds. In models with no pitot tube, I always set the speed to zero; that makes the FC ignore GS and just fly the craft. Does iNav offer the same option, or would it try to hover if you set speed to zero?
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
Hi, unfortunately iNav still isn't making good use of the airspeed information, i found out recently it's only used for reference on the OSD and is not used by the AP for autonomous flying, maybe this will change in the future, as it's always improving. Someone has mentioned to me that the speed in WP is not actually used at all and that it uses your cruise throttle value instead. This makes sense for it to operate this way but if that's the case I wish they wouldn't put a speed option in to confuse people. It was just coincidence that my cruise throttle makes it fly around the same speed as I had set in my missions. Hope this helps.
@Videolinquency4 жыл бұрын
@@AdamGdoesFPV Certainly! Throttle value is just as good as airspeed, if not better. Ground speed is what I want to avoid. A lot of RCers seem to forget - understandably - that the model's reference point is the air it flies in, not the ground they stand on. The plane doesn't know or care whether it goes up- or downwind. As long as there is a way to make the FC ignore ground speed, I will be able to use iNav.
@Urko764 жыл бұрын
Dear Adam, Thanks a lot for the very instructive video as usual. I have one question regarding to the speed. Can you change it in the different WPs? I friend of mine told me that the plane does not take care of the speed you put in each of the WPs but in the microseconds you have set in navigation system such RTH. Is it true? I hope that the mission can control the ground GPS speed as it looks like in your video. Can you clarify it please? Thanks again, Urko
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
Hi, unfortunately you cannot control the speed between waypoints. The speed during your entire WP mission is controlled by the 'Cruise_throttle' value. This is the same value that is used by all nav modes like RTH. Cheers

Thanks Adam for the great video. I am concern regarding the speed, as I set 2400cm/s, BUT, this works only if you have a pitot probe installed on the plane. If your speed is set to 86kmh, this create problems when i have tailwind or headwind, as my plane is without the pitot probe, it tries to mantain the target speed even on headwind, and this causes full thrust at time. Tailwind causes a plane to stall. I tried an avarage speed which suits both wind components but this is not reliable. Any chance I can get a fixed thrust at all time?
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
Hey and thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I discovered after making this video that the speed you set in WP is no longer used, and your cruise throttle is used the entire time you are in a WP mission. Try increasing your cruise throttle for a WP mission and see if this helps. In iNav from what I understand a pitot air speed is only used to show an ODS reading for your reference and is not yet used in any of the automated flight by the AP. Hope this helps.

Adam G does FPV this information rocks! I have been combing github but haven’t been able to put it all together. Here you have done it and answered all my questions. Bless you!

What is the maximum length of the mission? For example, can I send a gift to my grandma who lives 300 miles away using waypoints? Given that the batteries will last that long.
@AdamGdoesFPV3 жыл бұрын
From memory there is no max distance but a max number of waypoints. So yes you can drop grandma her gift 1000 miles away if your battery will last 👍🏻

how do i load mission with radio in mode 1?
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
Should just be left stick (elevator/aileron stick) held in the top right corner for a few seconds.

That was hilarious, if you really want to go get your plane out of a tree, check this box.

Has "speed" changed in 2.4? In the past, speed has no function. INAV doesn't consider plane speed (GPS or pitot), it only uses throttle values
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
This could still be the case to be honest! I never really altered the speed for wp missions and it might just be a coincidence that my average cruise speed ends up being around the same as the speed I set. Thanks for pointing that out 👌🏻

@@AdamGdoesFPV Great video Adam. Yes I found out about speed just yesterday on my first mission in the air. It flew at the Cruise Speed not my entered waypoint speed.
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewNewton Thanks for confirming this Andrew. This is so weird because it states in the wiki that "The mission is defined with waypoints, which have the information about latitude, longitude, height and speed between the waypoints"... and of course it allows you to set the speed which adds to the confusion
@jibbajabba45974 жыл бұрын
Adam G does FPV that only applies to drones iirc. Pawel said something about they couldn't get reliable speed on planes so it flies at cruise setting, unfortunately adding a pitol tube doesn't help either which can make things interesting on windy days. More annoyingly jump and loiter don't seem to work, it seems the inav team are concentrating on quads.

@Dominic Douglas Nice little tip, I can see that being very useful for people flying a lot of WP missions!

strings set nav_wp_radius = set nav_wp_safe_distance = 0
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
Thanks I've added all CLI I discussed in this video in the vid description: CLI mentioned in this video: -nav_wp_safe_distance = First waypoint in the mission should be closer than this value [cm]. 10,000 (100m) default. Set to 0 to bypass this check. -nav_wp_radius = Waypoint would be considered reached if plane is within this radius. Default 100 = 1m -failsafe_mission = If set to OFF the failsafe procedure won't be triggered and the mission will continue if the FC is in WP (automatic mission) mode

If you dont select RTH a fixed wing will loiter around the last point, I asume a multirotor will enter POSHOLD.
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
This makes perfect sense and is what I expected, but didn't want to just assume. You never know with iNav! Thanks for the info :D

I also forget to load missions before taking off. My trick to remembering is that I've changed my "armed.wav" voice notification to actually say "Armed. Did you remember to load waypoints?". You don't want waypoints to automatically load. If you are at a different field, automatically loading waypoints will prevent you from arming because the 1st point is too far away, even if you don't enable WP mode.
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
Haha I had considered doing the same as you, it's a smart move if you do WP missions often! I would still like it auto load, because then when you fly, if the WP is at a different field, the nav_wp_safe_distance will stop it from starting the mission, so there shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for watching
@tonyyeung8214 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the nav_wp_safe_distance check works by preventing you from arming. Try it. Set the safe distance to 1m. A better way to implement the check would be to prevent you from putting it into WP mode.
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
Right I've just been and tested this. I have a WP mission loaded and I am able to arm successfully in my back garden while my first WP is about 8km away.
@tonyyeung8214 жыл бұрын
Hmm. When I first setup a mission, my first waypoint was further than 100m away. I loaded the mission from EEPROM and it wouldn't let me arm. I see a message in the OSD "Unable to ARM. First waypoint is too far". (Just retested). I had to connect a computer to my plane and change the safe distance. Looking at iNav issues, I see this as an open issue: github.com/iNavFlight/inav/issues/4832. Perhaps you are running a version of iNav that behaves differently. (I'm running 2.4). Or perhaps you didn't actually load waypoints from EEPROM before you armed?
@AdamGdoesFPV4 жыл бұрын
@@tonyyeung821 I honestly believed you were going to be right, but I have just tested it in my back garden, loaded the mission in the usual way (Stick up right before arming) and then I can arm no problem. My safe distance is set to 500m and first wp is approx 8km away. I am also using 2.4. I tired this 3 times just to make sure and cycled the power each time. On the third time I even connected to my computer so I could confirm the mission was loaded in mission control.

That speed setting is used by multicopter. Fixed wing doesn't care about the speed value in mission control 😁
@AdamGdoesFPV3 жыл бұрын
Yea, as per video description you need to set the ‘cruise speed’ as that’s what is used in WP missions.
