Very awesome. I’d like to know how hard it rides now and what it feels like on really pothole filled roads. I am contemplating switching out my AHC and looking at 2.5 medium vs Heavy

Good video apart from not showing or not setting up the front suspension droop. This is a very important step to get right on IFS 100. You must maintain a minimum of around 70mm droop for IFS to work correctly and safely. Many people get this wrong! My guess is that you're about 1inch too high in the front. Check it by evenly jacking the front up until both front wheels off the ground, now take your center hub to guard measurment. Then subtract your ride hight from this to get droop. 👍 OME/ARB are wrong to sell these kits as a 2.5" lift. Their front shocks aren't long enough, they're the same length as factory shocks, meaning you have limited amount of hight before losing the correct shock droop.
@gearupgarage96092 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right. I wanted to get an alignment done before I finalized the droop. My intent was to make another video but life got in the way.
@lewisnikkel41952 жыл бұрын
I came into this exact issue the lift for my 100 series... the shock only allows you to lift maybe just about 2" or so ... but that is pushing it if you want to maintain proper droop. Do either of you have any insight on longer shocks or ways to deal with that?
@SteveBurns802 жыл бұрын
@@lewisnikkel4195 The front shock length must be between 455mm to 461mm open length to get a true 2.5" lift. OME and Factory is around 440mm from memory. Shock measurement from eye to the first washer. The only shocks that I know of are the Icon vehicle dynamics or the Dobinson IMS.
@qeull2 жыл бұрын
You are all correct. Maintaining front end rake or droop as you call it is vital. The Dobinsons are a good thing for this mod, as are Bilsteins. He really should replace his upper control arms, add a diff drop to it as well. IFS has limitations as to what's really feasible as far as lifts go. You should check your rear end for driveline correctness also. He will be disappointed in those shocks, they are crap. Their springs aren't much better. Springs are something you have to get right also , too heavy and you will need a chiropractor and it bounces all over the road, too light and it will sag and wallow if you have too heavy a constant load. Go for a lighter spring /air bag combo. Wrong spring selection will trash your socks as well. OME stuff seems pretty popular in the US, most of us aussies won't touch the stuff. Loosen the Tbars a little before your jack it up next time. Wheel alignment is critical too, you will struggle with this now as you won't have enough adjustment, hence the upper control arms. If you had chosen a heavier constructed larger diameter shock you would have had to do this . Lower control arms are prone to cracking and splitting under heavy use , such as long drives over corrugations , something common in Australia, you can reinforce them by welding them up in a couple of spots but this is not really legal here. But it seems to work. It's a weak link in the system.
@SteveBurns802 жыл бұрын
@@qeull Just for clarity, front end "rake" and "droop"are not the same thing, they're two separate things. Rake is the difference in ride hight from front to back. Droop is the available down travel in the suspension from the set ride hight. When you lift the ride hight of any vehicle, you reduce the available droop. To maintain the correct droop on a 2" lifted 100 series you need longer shocks. OME are way too short for 2.5" lift, they cannot maintain correct droop at this ride hight. The shocks would be topping out all the time and not keeping the wheels following the bumps. And no point doing diff drop or UCA'S when running the OME shocks, because you can't get enough lift and maintain droop using these shocks. The maximum lift out of OME front shocks is only about 25mm above stock ride hight. Yes, lower control arms can be a weak point where the torsion bars attach, easily fixed by welding in strengthening brackets, also the torsion bar adjusters can break if not strengthened too, but probably a non issue for US conditions.

Question for you, I tried raising the front of ours, and realized one of my torsion bars is as tight as it will go, but my front end is way too low. Do you recommend resetting spline end near the adjustable bolt? Thank you!

Hey, did you ensure the bar was lined up correctly? Also, are you lifting the vehicle with both front wheels off the ground?

Thanks for the video, I am not planning any LC projects yet, but thought the winter is a good time to learn what and how I can work on my car. My only suggestion, you should be using the shortest extension (or use a deep throat socket) to decrease the twisting effort with the longer extension.

A heroic effort. Did you have to mark the torsion bar in such a way so that you can put it back on correctly? Edit: Never mind.

I just got the 2" Ironman Foam Cell Pro done on my LX470 - AHC delete - I think my local shop screwed something up with my front. It sits way too high. It measures 33 1/4 inches from the bottom of my 17" rim to the fender well edge. I read that 29.60 or so is the MAX. and you want 50-70mm of droop. I guess I will call Ironman Monday.

I love the suspension! I would highly recommend the Foam Cell Pro over the nitrogen shock. The ride is similar to sport but is still smooth on the highway. The body roll is tightened up some too.
