Poor Buck gets startled and then wonders why his equilibrium is suddenly off! Awesome catch!!! Doubt he’ll keep the remaining antler long after this and thank you for feeding them during the winter ❄️

Deer shed their antlers every winter. They fall off easily usually by hitting something. Totally natural and painless, like clipping your fingernails.

@Jo Ol That's not how it works. You can't eat the antlers.😉

@Jo Ol It's people like you who create a bad stigma with hunters. If people kill a deer just for the antlers chances are they aren't a hunter they are a poacher. Huge difference. Hunters pay for their game and the money goes to protecting wildlife. The meat harvested from downed game doesn't go to waste. The hide is donated or dried then washed and used as a door mat or a cloak. When it comes to poachers they will kill anything for the value a certain body part carries such as rhino horns, elephant tusks, antlers, and gator hides.

I wish we'd been able to see how he acted after he lost it. I saw a deer lose antler one time a few years back. Two bucks got into a little bit of a tussle and an antler got knocked off. (It was time for them to shed anyhow, so I imagine it was 'loose' to begin with.) I'm assuming it hurt, because the deer went absolutely nuts - think bucking bronco trying to throw a cowboy off.

@darrinbriggs3182 жыл бұрын
Corn, analogics protein pellets, and roasted soybeans. It could be the soybeans are not in there right now but just not certain. The percentages of each changes at different times of the year to give the deer the ultimate for their overall needs.

@@darrinbriggs318 So if I wanted to feed deer just to be able to enjoy seeing them, what would be best without spending a lot? I’m on social security. Alfalfa hay or a grass mix? I have horses so I buy that anyway. Whole corn?
@darrinbriggs3182 жыл бұрын
@@joycenesselhauf1220 First and foremost you should check to make sure it is legal. For example, in my part of western WI, it is not legal to even put out corn. If it is just for enjoyment and seeing the critters the old fashioned Golden Corral is likely the way to go. 50 LB bags of corn can be found for around $9 a bag. It is hard to say how long it will last. It depends on the number of deer in the area and weather. The colder it gets the more they will come in and feed. Snow cover also can play a major factor if other food sources are harder to get to. Alfalfa is actually very expensive and it has to be cut. It is sometimes difficult to establish too.Bags of corn don't take any equipment like planting does either. Just my 2 cents.
@joycenesselhauf12202 жыл бұрын
@@darrinbriggs318 Thank you for the reply! I honestly didn’t know about the legality of feeding, so I will do that. It makes sense that how much feed I would go through depends on the number of deer and availability on weather. My suggestion about alfalfa is because I buy it anyway for my horses. I don’t grow or cut my own. However, that being said……it might get cost prohibitive if the incoming herd got too large. I appreciate your input!
@robertfitzgerald15913 жыл бұрын
I seen something on you tube one time , a guy said you shouldn't feed a lot of corn to deer in the winter , somehow they can't digest it properly and it could kill them , ????? I just add apples and carrots. Just curious if anyone else heard that? Thanks , nice video!!!
@travisrogers60772 жыл бұрын
Even worse now that we have chronic wasting disease all feeding of wildlife should become illegal. If we don’t we won’t have any deer soon. If they find infected deer in your area then they will give out tons of tags to eliminate the population as much as they can. Then the state will come and remove them from towns like they are doing in other states.

He didn't SHED it, he broke it from something or someone scaring them. That wasn't a natural shed, that was an injury
@sstills9513 жыл бұрын
I'd call it a natural shed. It's winter so it was barely attached. What's the difference if it had come off hitting a tree limb? In the fall the antlers are strong enough to bang into other antlers and stay on. This thing was attached by a thread and like a loose tooth, was bound to come off any time now.
@darrinbriggs3183 жыл бұрын
It's a shed antler and you can debate all you want. This is the time of year they come off and they don't all just drop off. Many times it is a sudden movement of some kind or jumping a fence, etc.
