FIGNAS83 - I only drive my ‘18 2.7L eco on Sport mode, and it’s got more pep than my old F250 w/ the rock solid 7.3L Powerstroke. Also driving these new trucks in Sport or Tow\Haul deactivates the start stop feature automatically. Just an FYI, for those curious about de-activating that feature. Plus there’s also the button on the dash which I’m now in the habit of hitting as soon as I start the engine.

@@warsquirt The grade of fuel is not as much in play as the washing of the valve with gas.
@warsquirt
@warsquirt 5 жыл бұрын
The washing part is a result of the quality of gas , a higher quality gas will clean better as opposed to "cheaper" gas. I understand your point though. And regardless of port and direct Injection there will always be some buildup however small over time, But regular maintenance, clean oils, and "good" gas can solve most of these problems.
@maxboya
@maxboya 5 жыл бұрын
John R. Fuel grade and octane ratings have nothing to do with keeping the valves cleaned. On a direct injection the fuel is never sprayed onto the intake valve. Without an oil catch can, on especially a turbocharged 164CI engine. You will have significant blow by. What comes out the PCV and back into the intake manifold onto the intake valves has nothing to do with fuel, it’s oil. Blow by. Grade of fuel has nothing to do with it.

Because of the direct injection, you really should install an oil separator or " catch can" to keep all the blowby gunk from getting back into your 2.7. Very easy to install, not too expensive. May save you from having trouble down the road, especially if you plan on keeping it for awhile. I have one on my 3.5. Plenty of KZbin videos on the subject as well as installment tutorials.

I have a "catch can" on my 2.7 for that reason as well. Although, it doesn't catch very much in 7.5k miles when I check it, which is when I change my oil filter. I also use StabL gas treatment every time I fill up to help avoid a lot of damage ethanol causes to the intake, valves, etc., and Amsoil fuel treatment every 7.5k miles as well. @@terry92ish Here is a good IMO article explaining what we are right now. vehq.com/size-travel-trailer-f-150-pull/ GCVW is the key legal factor we are talking about, the weight of a loaded truck and the trailer. In other words, what the unit weighs if pulled onto a truck scale in total. There are numbers on the pillar at the driver's door that lets you know your limits. I don't dispute one bit my 2.7 can pull 8,000# but not legally. There are many factors involved but an F150 has its legal design limitations. Please read the article I provided above. Heaven forbid you were in an accident and way out of your weight legal limits you could be deemed at fault even if not at fault for this reason. Your insurance may not cover you and you could be in big unprotected financial legal territory. It is the weight listed on the door and perhaps tongue of the trailer combined that matter. Then if weighed and you are way over you are SOoL. There is that gray area of a chance encounter with an officer and actually being weighed but if the numbers are out of legal range you can be cited.

The Ford Edge with 2.7 could have the coolant intrusion issue if you are losing it, I know this was an old response but 15-17’s had it where coolant pretty much is slowly going into cylinders. The newer models both have GDI as well as PFI due to the fact that older ecoboost were having really bad carbon issues on the intake manifolds " Catch Can" is a must on all F-150's. If I were to buy a new F-150, I would chose/still prefer the natural Aspirated V6/V8..

2015 f150, bought onw of the first ones in my area at the end of 2014. 112,000 + on mine, runs and tows great. had a small oil leak at 4k miles from the oil supply line to the turbo. something with the sealant used. it didnt leak enough to be noticable on the dip stick. quick fix with no issues since. my auto start/stop aux pump went bad. $900 to replace. i dont know if they need replaced though because if you shut off the feature on the dash it doesnt work obviously. from my understanding the only purpose for that pump is to keep fluid pumping in the transmission while youre stopped at a red light and the truck is off. its so you dont get a hard shift right away. otherwise i dont know what would happend if you said screw it and never replaced it? the feature doesnt work when that pump goes out either. it kicks the truck back on and throws a wrench on the dash. mine is still fairly new, i had the money, so i had it replaced. otherwise its been good. it tows my 5300 lbs dry weight camper. acidentlly went past my GCVWR hauling concrete. pulled it just fine. i think its a great all around engine. sure it sucks the gas when towing, but its nice that i can also unhook and get 20-23 mpg.

It is a great little engine. Just change the oil more frequently 3500 miles. Amsoil works great. Mobil 1 extended performance is fine if you can't get a hold of Amsoil. The integration of the turbo/cylinder heads has nothing to do with it heating up quicker. Your oil cooler exchanges heat with the main coolant system which will heat up the engine oil much quicker. The design of the head is cheaper more compact. The exhaust temps are kept cooler under boost which is easier on the cats, exhaust valves and turbo seals/bearings. The DI system instead of injecting the fuel on the intake stroke it’s injected a few milliseconds Before the piston hits TDC directly in the cylinder. This has a immediate cooling effect on cylinder temps as well as allows for a leaner burn. This combined with low ignition timing allows you to run 87 octane. Knock sensors will allow for more timing if you choose to put premium in it. Under boost your AFR is what’s typical of a NA engine. You then have Port injection so smooth the engine out on cold starts and keep the intake valves clean. The CGI block is the same material as is used in their diesels for as you mentioned strength. I apologize if it sounds like I’m talking down to you that’s the opposite of my intent.

Is there anything like emissions equipment that is different from the 49 state vehicle. I worked on Harley's in the early 1990's and they had a lower profile cam for their california models according to our instructors. This is where I get the difference idea from. There’s actually also injectors behind the valves. So you have 12 fuel injectors. What’s really good about this is direct injection leaves lots of carbon buildup. This can lead to valve issues. The injectors behind the valves helps keep the valves cleaner. It’s also used in the start stop feature. 👍🏻
