I had a Trane RTHB chiller back in 2001 that had 2 failed winding temp sensors, I was fairly new at that job but the Chiller techs then suggested using resistors from Radio Shack to get the correct reading since there was no other issues. Those chillers just got replaced last year, Radio Shack resistors still in it 😂

Could also just tie M1 and M2 together and bypass the module as well...i like your repair though and it works.

This actually reminds me I have a comp issue on a Mcquay SWP unit where the comp is cold and I’ve swap the module still not closing the relay. I need to check it further before I end up bypassing it. That last module is the newer ones that one has been changed already. Was told recently to upgrade to micro tech 3 from 2 is about 30k. Pretty soon parts for these mcquays are gonna be hard to get there not even refurbishing the MCB’s anymore.

Were the thermistors in range on that SWP....this place is starting to replace these so they definitely wouldn't do the micro 3 upgrade. I have a lot of Daikin air cooled with the micro 3...it is a better product than the 2 was. Thanks for commenting

@@jasonjohnsonHVAC I’ve never came across this issue I have on older intellipaks where the thermal would never close again we would just bypass it. I checked resistance and I have OL on both sets of thermistors, I figured if I had some resistance something else was the issue but I didn’t even know there was a range chart for these modules other than temp. The paper that comes with the modules are just basic wire diagram. I’m gonna check the comp to ground and Meg it, if it checks out I’m fire it up. The unit is doing fine with the other ckts just been waiting to really dig into it, I have this customer complaining about the boiler being off at the moment 😂 I have a few that are gonna be around for next couple years we usually try to keep parts off other units that get replaced.

Issues galore. Do you see many instances when the thermistors in the windings are the problem, somehow degrading over time and triggering the motor protector even though windings are not actually overheated?

Have seen it before, but it really isn't too common in my experience. Others may have a different story...but i haven't seen many at all.

@@jasonjohnsonHVAC We had that on an ancient recip unit at our facility years ago and I didn't know how often it happens. We hotwired around the protector for the remainder of the season and the chiller was replaced off season, I was uneasy about the situation but the motor never really did seem to actually overheat or overamp.

They are just like the rest. If equipment didn't have problems...i wouldn't have as much work as i do. Thanks for your comment

How about swapping the INT69 with another compressor?

@@jasonjohnsonHVAC I knew guys from North TX, OK, & Arkansas, they’d all say it like that. And they’d say Trane as Traaeeiin.
