I have two of these in my 1997 Honda passport right now. With only a 1600 watt Boss audio phantom amp so far it is thumping. Going to get a 2500 watt amp soon and really pumped some power out of them. Definitely some really good name brand but mid-range price speakers. They definitely hit just as hard as any of the other top-of-the-line speakers. I love my Alpine type R,s. Definitely shake my windows. A classic that will go down in damn history for sure 😮😮😮

@Blacksheep0272 more then likely the cone will be fine, typically with stiff subs the spiders separate from the landing, that or the former detaches from the spider. The type-r is not a very stiff sub, is used soft-medium spiders. Bangin on these full tilt is not usually a problem, especially if your only giving them their 500rms

ive been told by my car audio guy (he used to work at a place called Custom Auto Sounds) and he said the box is one of the best places to mount the amp. the wood actually absorbs a lot of the vibrations.

@jaskil695 Well it depends. Are they the 2010 model type R's with the red R at the bottom of the cone or the older models with the R in the middle of the cone? The older ones are 500w rms each and the newer ones are 600w rms each. Also the Prime r500 will NOT work with 2 type R's that are dual 4 ohms. The R500 puts out 500w rms at 2 ohms and 320 rms at 4 ohms and its not 1 ohm stable. Either you send that amp into protect by wiring your subs to 1 ohm or you only get 320w rms at 4 ohms.

@david96888 and youve seen my 8"s turned fully up on double their RMS, and they dont move a lot - its to do with the type of ported enclosure, the pressure is such that a lot of air is displaced without the physical movement of the drivers. i bet theres a load of air coming out that port!

have you had your system metered yet? i have about the same set up in my grand am, 2 12" type r's at wired to 1 ohm givin it 1300 rms. got it metered yesterday and i hit 142.4 db in a 4 foot cubic box.

With every dvc sub there's a diagram to show you how to wire it up for a 2 ohm load, alpine has made doing the parallel wiring for these subs quite easy with the short wires that come in to wire the voice coils together, now with 2 subs at 2ohms you would be running a 1 ohm load to your amp. Don't forget you need an amp that can handle that load, for amps, the lower the ohms, the harder it is, your amp manual and probably the box will tell you if it's 1 ohm stable.

BTW this is only 44.72 AC volts for his amp. Remember its Watts RMS multiplied by 2, then square rooted. For example, for 500w, multiply that by 2, square root it and you get 31.6v.

I have 2 type Rs at 1 ohm on a Memphis prx1500.1 my current box is at about 1.3 cubic feet per sub and tuned to 42hz(very high) just ordered a 2.5 per sub cubic feet box with a 32hz tune. I'm hoping it makes a big difference. I used to have a huge sealed box in my navigator and they used to distort my vision now they don't bump as hard in my Lexus (firewall behind seats) and I think the box size and tune.

the reason he has 2 amps is because alpine type-r subs are duel voice coil subs. (meaning that you can run either 2-2ohm imputs or 2-4ohm imputs into each sub (depending on which type-r it is) what a lot of ppl do is run 2 subs and 2 amps so they can run 500 watts per sub at 2 ohms on the 4 ohm type-r or 500 watts at 1 ohm on the 2 ohm type-r

Let me jus clarify.. 2 alpine type r's is basically the best you can get without blowing all oyur saving.. they also are at volume-18.. not turned up all the way. to bonacotti.. yes they pound much harder than fosgates. also fosgates (which seem nice) are know to suffer from cone cracks so they will be likely to blow early on.

Hey I'm really wanting to put some subs in my van and I have never had subs before and don't really know how everything works right yet. I'm looking at putting in 2 Alpine SWR-1242D 12" Type-R Series Subwoofers (4 Oh. What amp would you suggest to get a really good output form these amps and basically full moneys worth. Also besides wiring kits what else would i need to get everything fully set up and running properly. Thank a lot for your help!

@jackass9113 Depends on your amps rating. Whats the amps rms on 4,2,1 ohm and go from there. You got the newer type r which r 600 rms so find that out then its youll know how to wire it

while this can be true its more of a system by system thing because especially on type-r subs, and other duel voice-coil subs, it can be difficult to properly power multiple subs off a single amp since depending on which model u have, you would need to run a 10hm amp to do it properly without losing any power. by running 1 amp per sub, you can use 2 better quality 2 ohm amps and itll cost you a couple hundred bucks less also, alpine gives a diagram for their competition system with 4 subs+8amps

if your only running 1 or 2 subs that is generally the case but once u add on more than that it can change things. i personally only run 1 amp for a pair of subs but i know plenty of ppl who prefer to run one amp per sub

the difference between the 2 subs are one is 2 ohms and the other is 4 ohms. ported would be best for the type r's. i recommend a hifonics amp for the 2 ohms subs.

My neighbor has 2 of the type r in the video in his avalanche and my friend had 3 sundown sa 12 in his lanche and the type r sounded muchhhh cleaner and surprisingly deeper than the sa. The sa were a little louder, not by much tho but the type r forsure sounded much cleaner and smoother.

what alot of people do is not run 1 amp per sub on multiple sub systems.....typically its one amp for the subs and one for the door speakers...in some cases theyll use a 4 channel or 5 channel amp to power everything...combning 2 channels of the 4 channel amp and bridging them to run the subs, and on the 5 channel using the 5th channel to power the subs....you hardly ever see multi amps for subs unless your really pushin a lot of power. Plus now theres no hassle in matching the gain

the reason it sounds like that is the mic in the camera its basicly like taking a large sledge hammer and hitting a pan with a small ping hammer on the other side touching the pan the speakers are moving so much air its moving the tiny ass microphone in the camera back and forth exremely fast lol

@CoupeDeville23 ... full gain is a misconception.. your gain should NEVER be past 75%, and the speaker outputs should measure at 44.72 AC Volts (NEVER past that, EVER, if you do the amp is less efficient and causes voltage drop and clipping). If you have to turn the gains up past 75%, you need more pre-out voltage or your amp is dying.

Im buying a sound system for my car, i plan on getting full R-type (door speakers, shelf speakers and a r-type sub) but im not sure which size sub to go with. I was looking at the 12", but i will be listening to mostly dubstep ect, will the 12" have a good enough response time to keep up?

@ghettostyleclick ok since thats like a 600 watt amp pushing like 500 wats...so each sub is getting maybe 250 each... they are under rated... mi freinds runs his on about 800 watts and they are fine... they are ment for spl the type x is ment for sound qaulity... tuning them properly and runing a lpf and ssf on ur amp and u will b fine...

they take about 20 hours to break them in. im running 2 10 inch type R`s in my skyline with an alpine pdx 1. 1000 with is the perfect combo for me
