A few years ago Consumer Reports did a review on bug zappers. The biggest issue it found with them is that they attract bugs to your property, as you noted at the end of your review. The suggestion was to give the bug zapper to your neighbor. Let the bugs go there. It's great advice.

The trapper wont make sound because it doesn't zap. The light attracts them and the fan pulls then in and holds then in bottom chamber hence the small mesh to allpw airflow oit of holding chamber but keep bugs in. Zapper works better but trapper is quiet. To each there own for preference
@Pyrolonn5 жыл бұрын
James was right not to do bug control in Las Vegas. The whole video is rather naive and misguided. Most bugs won't bite you, and even grasshoppers aren't a long term nuisance. Zappers are annoying both the light and noise and pretty much useless against mosquitoes.
@txcforever5 жыл бұрын
I think so as well. Not sure if it there are models that combine the two into one device but for the most part the fan pulls the insects in and either there's a sticky surface at the bottom, or the fan is powerful enough that it "dries" the bugs to death.
@onetom22225 жыл бұрын
@@Pyrolonn I completely agree. This wasn't a review what keeps bugs off of you, but what is most effective at bug genocide. And I sure hope the idea isn't to kill every bug you see, as is implied by keeping it on all night even though noone is on the patio...

@LyleAustin5 жыл бұрын
Here in Alaska, mosquitoes are a real problem when it comes to outdoor activities such as BBQ, etc. If you're serious about getting rid of mosquitoes, they sell devices that use a 20 lb. propane tank (same size that you use on your gas grill) combined with a bug zapper. It burns propane at a very, very low rate which produces CO2 which draws them from the surrounding area. Ticks, fleas, horseflies, mosquitoes (pretty much any biting bug/insect) are attracted to the smell of CO2, which is produced by any warm blooded animal. Those zappers really aren't intended for larger bugs like grasshoppers.
@classichank605 жыл бұрын
I heard about test that was done with a CO2 bug trapper/zapper in the Florida Everglades (since there's TONS of mosquitoes there) and it was found to be very effective. They are in the pricy side, but work if you're serious about getting rid of deadly blood suckers.

These things really don't work for Mosquitoes. They are attracted to carbon dioxide. What people and other animals exhale. There are traps designed for Mosquitoes. Generally, they run on Propane. They create carbon dioxide that attracts them. You can use a zapper, but generally, you need to attach something that will draw them to the zapper. I never really had much luck doing that. Amazon has something like the "Flowtron MA-1000-6 Octenol Mosquito Attractant Cartridges". You may want to look at something like the "Koolatron Guardian Bite Shield Cordless Mosquito Trap" www.amazon.com/Koolatron-Guardian-Shield-Cordless-Mosquito/dp/B0033J6KQ8/ref=sr_1_34?crid=3T3SR0FGN794K&keywords=mosquito+trap+outdoor+propane&qid=1565234114&s=gateway&sprefix=mosquitoes+trap+outdoor+propane%2Caps%2C210&sr=8-34 There are a number of them. I do notice that I'm not swatting at any of those pesky things flying around me here on the porch anymore. To me, that's fantastic and it seems to be doing what it claims to do. That's all that I ask of it. And I don't have to listen to that annoying zap every time something hits it.
