I remember when I first went to the IOM, I got off the ferry and struggled for signal. There was a police officer in a car and I asked him if he knew where Nick Crowe lived because he had my stuff. The officer said “of course, follow me”. So I did. Where it was 30, we went 30, where it was 40, we went 40 etc etc. then came the national speed limit… the back of his car dipped down and I was like “wtf do I do”. So I decided to gamble and chase him. 90, 95, 100, 105, 110 and I was thinking “he’s just baited the shit out of me”. We got outside Nicks house and he went “there you go mate, ride safe!” So I asked him basically what the fuck was that about (lol) and then he explained that there’s no speed limit when it’s a national speed limit but he was very stern in that every other speed limit must be obeyed. Lovely police officers out there, they are a different breed and no doubt DONT have to put up with the shit like some do over in the main land. Ride on fellas

You’re not the only one, I was parked up behind the Sulby Glen hotel and a local copper came up and started looking at my car, asking if I’d ‘opened her up yet’ then advised giving it the beans over the mountain when the roads reopened, he then wandered off. His car was a blue Focus ST parked next to me. So I headed in to Ramsey for some fish and chips when the racing had ended and didn’t think any more of it. Headed over the mountain about two hours later back to my digs in Foxdale and I’m doing 60/70 in the pitch black somewhere around Snaefell, and I see blue HID headlights coming up FAST behind me, next thing this blue Focus goes past me like I’m stood still, disappears round a left hand bend and I never saw him again! Manx coppers are a different breed because they can have a laugh with you, but command total respect cos they dont take any messing. Just how it should be. 👌🏻

That's brought back memories of the MGP in 1990 when me and a mate had a bit of a "cat and mouse" run with the Police from Kirk Michael all the way over the mountain to Douglas. Back then much of the course outside the towns was still unrestricted. Obviously we adhered strictly to the limits where posted but were able to get away from the Police car (Sierra Cosworth) in the unlimited sections until they caught us up at the next town. 😂 We did lose them completely over the mountain however. We stopped at the pit wall and thought "oh sh*t" as the Police car approached some minutes later and pulled in behind us. Needless to say we were absolutely gobsmacked when the police came over and complemented us on our "safe and courteous" riding!! We've not been back to the Island since 2000 but I believe only the mountain road is still unrestricted.

187mph never again...well until next time. But it was 25 years ago. My deep pocket friend has a new Kawi H2r that hits 224 in the 1/4 mile and 246 at Road America Elkhart back straight. This boggles my mind that you can get a 300+HP "stock" motorcycle that can be easily tuned to 450HP on methanol. Right off the showroom floor...Pay as you go.

@marcothorsen950 Жыл бұрын
You can do the Mountain sections most of the year as one way traffic road. The best time to enjoy the ride properly is when the TT festival is not on and the Island is less busy with race fans.. The police are always present looking on. There are two different types of riders. Quick and safe or fast and dangerously erratic. Which will see you getting pulled by the Police for your own safety.. 👍

Manx police are awesome. I got pulled over for doing the same thing ,bike was as close to top gear rev limiter as it had ever been and we got flagged to pull over. We pulled over the police stayed sat in their car, after 10 mins the police waved us off without saying anything. They literally just put us at the back of the queue and shock their heads.

@Person01234 Жыл бұрын
At the time they rode (during TT week) the road is made one-way, yes. The road is de-restricted at all times so yes the speed is legal, but common sense still applies (dangerous driving is a crime, so doing the same speed recklessly in a vehicle that couldn't handle it well might not be). Obviously these are capable bikes with capable riders and the nature of the road is such that they can do 170 (relatively) safely.
