Right on Keith! Everything you said is exactly true for me. I'm 76 years old, and never read the Bible through until four years ago. I've read it through three times now, by doing it in a year each time. I found this method for myself while attending a ladies class. We would take turns reading out loud each week. Some ladies would just read the passages a word at a time without any feeling at all. It was hard to follow along. When it was my turn, I read like I used to read to my grandchildren, with feeling. And that's when it dawned on me. It brought the story to life! I started doing my daily Bible reading that way. And now I read so much more every day, not wanting to put it down. I've got to keep going to see what's next. It turns out that it is a very intriguing story and guide for my life. My hope is for others to find the same realization. God bless you all.

You just confirmed what i now tell new believers to do. When i first became a believer, a radio preacher said we believe ourselves and our own voices more than anyone else's. Another teacher said to make sure we majored on the Epistles for awhile because they were God's letters to the Church. So I sat alone in my apartment with my cat on my lap and read the Epistles out loud to myself for fairly long amounts of time. This completely and quickly changed me and my entire life forever. I was 25 then and am 70 now. Still loving Jesus and His Word.

Thankyou Keith, I accidentally came across your video this morning. You are so right. In 2008 my only Son passed away in a car accident. My Mother had already buried 2 children so after a couple of months I asked her to help me with my loose. She said that she couldn't and she was right. I went to Our Awesome Father, reading His Word, searching for answers. I would as God questions and the more I studied, the more answers He would lead me to. I would always pray, thanking God for His word, asking for understanding and wisdom. As I read, sometimes He would guide me to read the references that went with that verse. Little by little God gave me the answers to all my questions. You can read a verse and just keep going and a month, a year later, read the same verse and get the meaning of that same verse. Stay in the Word, all the answers are there. God and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is the only ones that can completely Heal a broken heart. God Bless 🙌🙏

So based on a Bible teacher's recommendation, I read the Epistles especially because they are God's letters to the Church, out loud to myself for long periods, over and over. It completely transformed me and my life. Also the word hearing is defined by strongs as hearing with the ear and it is also in the continuing tense... so hearing, and hearing and hearing....

These are facts! I have read the Bible over 35 times. (At this point, I have lost count. 😅) My time in The Word is always at least fifteen to twenty minutes and I always read as if someone is listening to me, like I'm reading to a child. I always try to start with a worship song or two and with a quick prayer, and then I get into the reading. That's it, I try to keep it simple. I always enjoy it, never get tired of it, and I'm always learning something new and applicable.

My pastor made a comment one Sunday that a believer (one who has been one for awhile) should be able to have a one sentance summary of each book. I took that as a challenge. 😊 Minus the Gospels, Acts, and Revelation, I sat and read each NT letter in a sitting, made short notes, and came up with a sentence for each. I greatly enjoyed it. I definitely benefit from reading several chapters in one sitting. Especially those long OT ones. You get more of an idea of the whole picture and what is going on.

Thanks for these brain hacks, Keith! 🧠 1) Read for 10 minutes, at minimum, in one sitting so you can get into storytelling mode and retain more. The longer, the better. 🧠 2) Read out loud and with emotion. “Read the Bible like you’re reading Curious George to a 5-year-old and watch what happens.” Great tips! I read about 10 minutes (3-5 chapters) a day through The Bible Recap (2025 is my second year). I’ve found that I retain more when I go back and read several assignments in one sitting. In one sitting, I see repeated phrases and themes clearly. I also enjoyed reading Paul’s letters aloud to really get a sense of the emotions he was conveying. These brain hacks definitely work! Praise God for our wonderful brains and people who can communicate how they work so we can improve.

I have been sorting, getting, doing in my head while my eyes have gone line by line to the end of the page. When I reread the page, I think, I have just read that but didn't remember it. We/I need to make a concerted effort to train the brain. Never thought to read out loud, which I have done 'monolog', like reading a child's story. When I was a youth pastor, I encouraged the kids to read aloud and take notes. I broke down the neural pathways being used to explain how the Word gets embedded in their brains. Reading silently uses the eyes to record the actual words they were reading. If they read it out loud, the eyes take impressions of the text, and the speech center also processes it in order to speak it, and the auditory centers in the brain have to record it as well because you are hearing your voice read it. If you then copy it out or make notes on it your hands become an input device for the brain while it passes for an additional time back through the brain because you are both creating the letters/words with your hands, processing them with your voice, and hearing them with your ears.

I've committed to reading the Bible within this year (2025), and it takes me about 2 to 3 hrs per day. A daily schedule is posted in the community tab on my channel if any one is interested. Now the reason I took upon myself this challenge, and share it, was to help others and myself to develop consistency. Encourage other to discipline themselves as well (well, that's if they take up the challenge). Now in reality it should take about 20 to 30 minutes of reading daily, but I'm reading to understand, make notes and to retain because it's my heart desire to write my own unique One Year Bible plan next year (2026 God'sWilling). I'm graduating from Bible School soon and I want to Share the word, the good news and the love of God to all who would receive it. I love God's word and I love Him so much more. The Bible, read like a story from beginning to end, can be read 3 times a year - with enjoyment. I’ve done a fast reading at 40-50 chapters (1 month) , followed by a reading at 20 a day then 10 a day and you’ll have sought the Lord all year, intensively, through scripture. Enjoyment at first may not come immediately but it’s inevitable if you stick with it. In my experience there’s no quality reading without quantity and without reading the broad lines of the whole story, like the Book it is. I started off with low expectations- no need to understand, remember or enjoy everything, I’d just be reading because the Lord says we should. He gives us the help we need to internalise it

Understandable. Remember, speed is not the goal. Maybe try reading a few sentences aloud and then ask yourself, 'what did I read? If need be go back and reread it. Joshua 1:8 is rendered as,'meditate', 'think about ', 'read in an undertone', etc. Solid food ( Hebrews 5:13, 14) takes longer to chew than milk. Which is better, to read a chapter that you don't retain, or a verse that touches your heart?

Thank you for your wisdom, Sir. I can't read out loud where I live, so I started reading my Bible to my new fish. I will start reading my Bible for more than 10 minutes daily!

Brain science: Let's accept that our brain doesn't shift into "story telling" gear until 10 minutes after we start reading. So to put this in absolute, black-and-white terms, I can't count on remembering the first 10 minutes of my reading. If I read for 20 minutes, there is a 10-minute period that I won't remember, then the remainder (20 - 10 = 10 minutes) would be new content that I remember. Similarly, if I read for 30 minutes, the first 10 minutes I won't remember, then the remainder (30 - 10 = 20 minutes) would be new content that I remember. So then, as long as I am reading more than 10 minutes in a day, I would need to back up (to overlap) 10 minutes worth from where I left off, then start today's reading from there. Does that sound right?

I understand the logic, but it only holds true for Day 1. If you read for 20 minutes, you'll be able to "jump into" storytelling mode more quickly each day. Think about reading a novel. If you read a page a day, you won't remember anything and you'll need to start over. If you read for 20-30 minutes, you can start tracking right away the next time you pick up the book. Make sense?

When I was in high school & college, I memorized Scripture by quietly by reading phrases out loud until I had them correct without looking at my Bible, gradually adding another phrase until I had the whole verse memorized. I would say the reference before and after each verse. Then I would practice reciting the verse daily until I said it accurately every time. It is the easiest, most effective way for me to "Hide God's word in my heart."

Thank you so much for all the work and research you put into each video. Pastor you are truly doing the work God has assigned you. You are an excellent speaker/teacher in being able to describe things in a practical easy way. I appreciate all the examples that help further clarify your points. God bless you sir and your ministry.

Just came across your video, I’ve been reading the Word of God since @ 1984. Of course not every single day, have tried all different ways, & this past 10 years been doing the Portions, like Jesus-Yeshua did… these hacks of yours makes sense, & will help with our journey in The Word. TKU 🙏🏼 Sub’d

8:28 this whole point thus far literally explains why I cannot, personally, do a 365 Bible reading plan. I used to think I was “just an anxious” person, wanting to get more reading done. Maybe inpatient because of only reading 11-15 mins worth of scripture a day (365 plan). I felt overwhelmed at times too knowing I had so much more to go … (knowing that I had time for more). I do know that every reading plan encourages you to read more as you feel led but in my opinion I would read more all the time and thus, ultimately ditching the Bible plan all together. I switched to a 90 day reading plan and I do feel that I’m getting way more understanding and the bigger picture of the passages like this. After reading way more chapters with this new plan, when I close my bible I feel like I just went somewhere … I feel like Ive experienced what I read. It’s just way more richer Depth for me. I do understand though why some people choose a 365 plan, I get it. People are busy, they want to squeeze in Bible time. But like you mentioned pastor, they are likely to quit and miss out on the richness that you can get when reading for longer. Id say, get up earlier, cut off some of the busyness (sacrifice for God) and read more 🙏🏼 ( I wanted to note that this is my reading time only, obviously my studying/meditation looks different)

I totally agree! I would have a really hard time with a 365 day plan for sure! If I'm going to read the WHOLE Bible, I never take more than 6 months now. Most of the time I look at 3-4 months. That's the "sweet spot" for me. (About 35-45 minutes per day.)

I just finished reading the Bible in 90 days. I understand so much more of the old testament, and why the judges, kings and chronicles etc are important. Before you just read tiny bits, and they did not make sense or seemed too dry. Now to deep dive into each book.

@@barbaralennon321 That's awesome! I've only done 90 days 2x. Most of the time I do 4-5 months.

Because historically so few people were able to read and all books were hand copied, everyone read out loid all the time. Bishop Ambrose of Milan influenced St. Augustine to start reading silently and it caught on

How do you get through the pronunciation of all of the names in the Bible? It’s hard for me.
@keithferrin6 сағат бұрын
@@sallythibodeaux7992 Good question. Honestly, I don’t worry about it too much. However, if there are names you want to know how to pronounce you could always open up the YouVersion Bible app and listen to the audio Bible.

When I was in Bible college studying “hermeneutics” we were required to read John in one sitting. Do Not Disturb signs would be on dorm doors as students completed this task. It’s been years…but I think we needed to read it several times.

Amen to that. I did that with Ruth, James and Jonah and I want to tackle some of the smaller or should I say shorter books first then take on John Acts, Romans etc. In the mean time, I've embarked upon a one year study where I do a bit of reading from the OT, NT, Psalms and Prov. everyday and man I'm loving it but John is actually a really good place to start!
