The operator on the 5130B is one of the most careful I've ever seen...bit slow, but gentle and precise with his movements. I bet he goes home without an aching back...and the dump truck drivers didn't end up with loose teeth! Actually, they are both pretty good, but the first one shown is the one I was commenting on. Before I retired, I spent around 45 years operating most of the machines (and their earlier versions) you can see in this video...the last 5 or so, I spent training and evaluating guys and girls to operate the same equipment to the standard required for their 'ticket'.

When they prep sites for neighborhoods in So. Cal. I guess they really do it large scale...watched a few of these vids and am amazed at the amount of equipment used at one given time and mesmerized at watching it all in motion at once.

Opening shot, they almost look like a herd of animals grazing in the distance there. :)) Nice one, probably one of the best yet, certainly in top 10 in the channel.

These mass excavators seem so much more ponderous than conventional ones despite having almost twice the number of hydraulic cylinders and....I assume a much bigger engine. Great video, thanks again, Gimb
@bjmxd7 жыл бұрын
thyer meant mroe for mining applications but i assume since the job size its to move more dirt insteasd of 13 or so smaller excavators getting i the way

Thanks for the video! I have to admit, I'm not sure why they elected to go with mass excavators and trucks instead of scraper (with teeth), D11 rippers and pushers. Though I don't know where the trucked dirt is going, (some looked like it was being wet for processing in a controlled fill); it just seem like the site layout would nicely accommodate a team of scrapers and dozers. I realize the material is hard but it looked like the D11 ripper seemed to handle it OK. Your videos help me remember and re-live my dirt moving days. Thanks again - Love the aerial shots!

Great question but it’s likely due to haul distance. These guys have some of the Largest Scraper Shows I’ve ever seen so not using scrapers isn’t due to lack of assets. I’ve seen one of their jobs where they had 6 D10 push cats in teams of two in one of the most incredible displays of material movement I have ever seen. I worked as a Cat field rep for years and can say with confidence, if they’re not using scrapers, the $$’s made sense to go trucks and backhoes. Definitely a great question for the video creator for sure. Pure speculation from me.

@@jackjackson9965 well, 3 buckets, the 5130 has a 14-15 yd bucket while a 657 holds 45 yds.

Even though I love these big machines here like the next guy here, it is easy to see how man can destroy the natural habitats for wild life in a blink of an eye. I'm talking about the rainforests since it regulates our weather systems in conjunction with the oceans.

Good shots, interesting video. Never seen a twin engined water sprinkler before, are these scraper conversions or is the rear engine simply used for pumping, - I noticed they were very generous with the amount of water they spread at the digging site.

Serious question here. Why spend the money to level out an area like this for just a housing development?
@nickpish69697 жыл бұрын
It makes the overall construction cheaper. It's less expensive to install the sewers, utilities and roads. It's easier to manage the overall drainage. It's also maximizes the overall usage of the land. More houses can be built. It looks like it will be a huge neighborhood.
@TheHankopotomus7 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the reply. Here in Arkansas where I'm from we would never spend that sort of money for housing, but land is much cheaper here also.
@collinjones35617 жыл бұрын
Hank van Rossum 1720 houses in the housing tract. Selling 400-500k it's about 700+million dollars in housing. They spend about 20-30 million in grading and sewers etc. then another 200 for the houses... you can imagine the amount of money the developers are making. I did the earthwork takeoff on this job. California home of the 100ftx50 ft lots. Sold for half a million everytime.

Too bad you do not have magnetic skids on the drone. That would allow you to catch a ride on the Dozer ROPS.... Is that aggregate going off to an onsite screed? Slick way to save some cash for graded fill on the roadbeds.

Does anyone have any insight on how to about to be retired firefighter could go about looking for work driving a water wagon or water truck here in SoCal? Im from San Diego and I would love to be steering a 621 or 730. Not sure what type of company to look up. Heavy duty road construction or enginnering?

You would need to get in the Local Operating engineers union over there which i believe is Local 12. You typically need experience in order to get on with something like this. or going t through the apprenticeship program.
