2 Clicks Out: Suzuki DR-Z400SM Supermoto Suspension Setup Intro

Supermoto was all the rage here in the US back in the late 00's. Suzuki capitalized on that trend by equipping their dual sport DR-Z400 (street legal dirt bike) with 17-inch (430 mm) wheels, larger brakes, RMZ swing-arm, and inverted forks. Supermoto track days are super cheap too.

I just got a 400sm, I'm 140lbs maybe geared up. Considering playing with my suspension to see if I can make it even better? I'm currently on all stock settings, but it doesn't feel bad. Just not sure if it could feel better.

Mr. Moss is a f@cking legend. If you follow a couple of his advice about suspension and tire pressure you will discover a whole new bike experience! My tires and suspension settings were very hard for my riding style on my CBR 600 and once I experimented with his videos and found my settings, I thought I bought a new bike

Hello Dave I know I did mention the subject of the Speed Triple R before but I just got annother one with serious issue with rear shock. I don’t know if You do get to work on any of those bikes but if You do please share Your opinion(compression related - lack of any shock reaction to the small bumps on the road even with compression damping at minimum). Could linkage system be a part of the issue? Thank You

But shouldn’t the sag on a supermoto be around 100mm? Why the 40 to 60 is that for street/track riding only not actual supermoto style riding?

You want less for the street. Since you don't need so much travel on pavement

Sag is a starting place, then YOU find what you need for your abilities and roads by measuring travel used. A bit of work but once done, your bike rides incredibly well.

I have a drz 400e and 2 wheels sets: off-road (21/18) and SM.. I wonder if with just the clicks I can change the suspension settings enought to ride with relative confort/performance with each set of wheels

Yes you can for rebound and compression.

Add preload to compress the spring, raising the seat height

I overturn rebound adjustment at the rear shock, now my rear suspension seem like slow moving, even though I adjusted back to the S, so what should I do

go counter clockwise until the adjuster stops and ride it. See if the needle will move from the current location and rebound will speed up.

@@naklengks If an adjuster turns it is okay. There is only one nut to turn on the shock that is high speed compression. Th issue is only with rebound.

"rear sag should be 40-60 mm not 100"...funny the manual calls for 4 inch sag which is 100mm

Hi do you have any video links for choosing the correct fork oil ,my manual doesn't mention the grade of oil..the bike is 40 years old. If I start to look through your selections, I tend to watch all and loose my direction for which I was looking. Lol
