A beach left alone is beautiful. There are the ones that have to be combed everyday for the benefit of tourists who expect everything to be manicured, and I understand that as well. But Puerto Viejo is not about that. The ocean can’t be bleached either. Sometimes it gets muddy and dark. Just saying. Nature is gorgeous and so is Puerto Viejo.

My god do I miss Costa Rica! I was in Jaco and Puerto Viejo! I fell in love with the place. I did enjoy the Caribbean beach side, it was definitely better than the pacific coast of Costa Rica. I’d, also, recommend a drive cross country! It’s gotta be some of the most spectacular views I’ve ever seen.

What wonderful destinations and how great to see the animals in the foundation, 👏👏👏

Great video! Yes the sand is darker there so you can’t compare with tulum, but it’s not so overwhelming with tourists or overdeveloped. Like you say, I think the lush forest going right to the surf sets the scene that is not comparable to Tulum (where they’ve replaced most of the trees with hotels.) You really can’t find beaches with lush forest like puerto Viejo anywhere in Mexico

Yeah, that’s one of the things we loved the most about Puerto Viejo, the natural settings ☺️

Thank you for this video and your honesty! I've looked at soooo many videos of Costa Rica beaches on both sides of the country and my impression is that they're just meh. Most folks are quick to clap back at those who critique a place they've visited one time or for a short time, but it depends on one's experience...if you've seen the beauty of a true crystal clear warm white sandy beach you know what standards to look for anywhere else. I'm sure CR's beaches are still decent enough to visit but at least folks know what to expect before they get there. I'm still interested in moving to CR regardless, because I can adjust.

Not to rain on the parade, but Puerto Viejo is OVERSOLD as something extraordinary ; but, frankly, Cuban beaches are way better and cheaper for your pocket. You will find average hotel prices are in the range of 50 US dollars and more.

Cuban beaches are incredible but at what cost? The cost of the Cuban people not being allowed to go to certain beaches purely because the government has made them specifically for tourists. Pretty mucked up. That said, it is a geographically beautiful country, I have been twice

Hey! Yeah we used Caribe Shuttles. You can buy tickets online and they were very reliable for us. You can find more links & tips here if you are interested: nalbatravels.com/why-backpacking-costa-rica-is-difficult-and-tips/

Unlike Mexico and many other Caribbean governments, the Costa Rican government has protected the wildlife and not imported sand or got rid of seaweed etc, as they know it is so important to biodiversity. I am confused by your comparison to Tulum (a tourist trap for American's?). I have been to both and would not recommend costa rica to people who like artificial shit. Both are obviously incredible in different ways.
