For those not familiar with the detectorists favourite creature the Mole. They like to create Mole Hills. We are plugging our holes, there’s just a lot of Moles about. 😂 We also let the hungry Robin have a little dig for worms in one hole before closing it up. 🤎

Old bridle paths, old paths between outlying hamlets and Churches, meadows at ancient crossroads can all be great find spots. Low and slow, is the way to go, on them. Well done ladies!

I found a 'Commonwealth' Halfgroat (Cromwell), last summer - really tiny and another interesting bit of history - but nothing like those 2 bigguns you found... 🥰 I'm quite envious of that Vicky sixpence too... I like 'wearing' the odd find/trinket - but still yet to unearth a 'holed' coin... 🥸 (I have a little silver C17th/18th pauper's ring tho' on a neck-chain...) Gotta love this hobby eh?... 🙏

Fantastic, the humble footpath always has lots to offer. There was a proliferation of coin stashes during this time, I can't recall the exact dates but furthermore the snowfall in the winter may also have been quite prolific. I've not found one (a hammered coin) yet this year, I'm poss doing a footpath though in a few days on my day off. Cool, well done, 12d was alot of silver..

I grew up in the 60s, we would get either a 6d or a 3d wrapped in paper in our Xmas pudding for good luck & also be able to pull on the wishbone lol . We also used the old ship hapney in our pocket money

Was really difficult 🤣 We left a few clues in lives though 😂. Previously to the find we weren’t too familiar with the civil war. We popped into the national civil war museum in Newark which is awesome! Very eye opening 👀 The fabric of society was falling apart and the consequences were horrendous. I wonder their fate also.

And I have another observation, (I can be very annoying I know😇) In the UK it always rains, so I think it is convenient to also look down the hill, because surely many things are washed away after so many years. It’s ok! And yes we always plug our holes, there are a lot of mole hills on our pasture land which makes it look like we don’t. 😂 We often check the hill side but not a lot of luck so far! It’s incredibly steep which makes it a bit tricky.

I'm no expert, but I think the first shilling was a James, looking right. But, who was the second one, looking left? You may have said and I just didn't hear it. Wonderful finds! Three silver in two days is as good as it gets. EDIT: I rewatched and it was Charles I. Looking left. I'm not saying he had a big nose, but if he looked down his nose at you, it would take him a half hour.

If the museums or the government take your hoard,are you compensated for your loss? In the States, it’s settled between you and the landowner. Usually to get a permission to detect,an agreement is made for such valuable finds.
