As a European born American, I am always fascinated and excited about the history of places. Places everywhere! Having been to London (of course), Windsor, and Stonehenge, I love seeing the rest of Great Britain. You do a lovely job of narrating and finding interesting sites and objects. I’m curious to get a closer look at things and places. So glad that I found you! I love antiques, old buildings, history, and art. Greetings from Chicagoland in the USA!

My fav city. I used to go here at least once a week. To search roman relics and shop different items. It was only about 15 mins from where i live. Never get tired of it to this day.

What a fascinating city. My favorites are the Minerva shrine,which is shocking on a few levels. Second to that is the Amphitheater,with the shrine to Nemesis!
@RomanFound24 күн бұрын
Both favourites of ours too, we were very impressed with the preservation of the amphitheatre!! There were lots of tours going on while we were there 😂 which made filming a challenge but brilliant to see it being used!

Thanks. I was revisiting Chester at the beginning of October and thought that I had seen everything but you showed me a few that I missed. Clearly my method of purely random wandering allows some omissions. Maybe I'll look at one of the tourist guides next time. I look forward to going back in any case as this is one of my favorite cities in the UK. Maybe next Spring...

Glad we could share a couple more spots to explore! Fully an advocate for random wandering, we would just be crucified if we missed anything major off the tour! 😂 it’s a fabulous city, we loved it!! Hope you get back to visit soon! 🙏

Hi can I just say I’m mark I joined this channel few months ago I loved this video. I live in Wirral near Liverpool so not too far from Chester. I come to Chester quite a lot love the history and I even do lots of research on Chester as well. Some great information to let you know. Where Off the Wall Pub is by the Roman Amphitheater there is remains of a Roman Tower Wall and if you go into off the wall pub into their beer garden there is another part of the Roman wall from that Roman tower wall remains. Thought I’d let you know. Like you I’m the same love digging and finding more and more out. Look forward to more of these from you.

Hi Mark! A warm welcome to the channel! Glad you enjoyed the video! It was a fun one to research, and thank you for the tip about the Off the Wall Pub! We’re planning some new tours so stay tuned and we’re always happy to hear suggestions on where to go next 🤓⚔️🤎

Really great stuff girls! - moving effortlessly into 'proper documentary' territory here, I fink - with on-screen map graphics, and lovely 'developing' tripod panshots... 🙏🏻 Really interesting content too, (and I was at that exact same pub-outside-bit (on yet another ill-feted date 🥴), only a couple of weeks ago... Great little city Chester hey? (and I really should go more often...). Thnx as ever for your hard work... Bobby x

As with most cities in Roman Britain it peters out around the time of the withdrawal from Britain, officially ‘Roman rule’ in Britain ends in 410 AD 🤓 there were of course those Romans who stayed, who had settled in Britain, and continued on into the 5th Century. Glad you loved the tour!! 💪

A few years back Foregate street was being renovated and as they dug they found pieces of pottery dated back to Emperor Nero. What I found poetically amusing was it was right outside Cafe Nero.

To this day, the Welsh name for Chester is Caer ... which means Fort. No other discriptors are in there like in Caernarfon, or Caerleon, just Caer. It was clearly regarded as THE fort.
@RomanFound22 күн бұрын
That’s incredibly fascinating! Thanks for sharing with us, there are many hidden clues in our place names! We’re planning to visit Wales again for another tour in the near future!

My family name is Chester wonder if we originally came from this area?

I know it's not Roman related but if you are here again the Bridge of Sighs is worth a moment. Not many know about it especially tourists. Known as the Bridge of Sighs this is a footbridge over Chester Canal. It was probably built in the late 1700s. It was used to take prisoners from the City gaol to the former Chapel of St John in the south wing of the Bluecoat School. Here they could make their peace with God before execution.

I find cottagey wattle and daub or little brick houses much more attractive than the gaudy upscale mansions or palaces. Hate baroque, not crazy about a lot of Victoriana either.

The houses are charming. However the overall look is made worse by the streets too narrow, no street greenery and the houses being too close together. But I guess the land was so expensive and taxes so high, they tried to cram in as many buildings as possible and perfect proportions were not a priority.

@ so, speaking academically… why do you still pronounce the Vs in Latin as they are in English? Vs are pronounced as Ws in English. Every Roman boffin knows this by now. Tutus tutum.
