I travelled from LA through to Vancouver Canada with many stops along the way, such an amazing experience and had a sleeper berth which made the trip more comfortable. As a sole traveler, the conductor would seat me with different people for meals and ended up meeting so many nice people, they loved the Aussie accent - lol😁. Greetings Jeb. My Father (RIP) was a Sleeping Car Porter and from the ages of 7-14 the Coast Starlight was Dad's regular route. During that time, it ran from Oakland's old 16th Street Station to Portland. I was fortunate to be able to ride with my Dad at least twice a year; once or twice in the summer and also during Christmas break. I enjoyed the winter trips because we never had any snow in the Bay Area and their was plenty to see in the Cascades during our winter train rides. Thank you for bringing back a lot of fond memories. I still remember every nuance of that route - and the train ride between L.A. and Oakland too; as we traveled that route several times on our way to catch the Sunset Limited in L.A. to visit family in New Orleans. BTW, Klamath Falls is pronounced like the shellfish - as in "Clam"-math Falls. Thanks again Jeb. You brought me tears of joy for the memories of the time I shared with Dad on that route. 🤗🤗

I've taken this route multiple times, most recently this last June. It really is a lovely trip, and isn't too bad even in coach!

Flew down to Anaheim from Oakland to take in a couple of Yankee games with my son this summer. 16:37 Took the Coast Starlight back and was a great 13 hours. I was a little concerned , as I was on my own , to be in a communal dining situation but it was actually a wonderful time as you quickly get into a conversation on where you are from and where you are going, and why.

an incredible video as always!! agree that the scenery isn't always 100% magnificent, but i think it's also a unique and important part of taking a journey on amtrak. those are the parts of our country's landscape, outside of mountains and valleys and all the pretty things, that also tell a story. beautiful and interesting stories in their own way. trying to plan an 'all across the country without planes' trip for sometime later in 2023 and i'm definitely adding this one to my list!

I thoroughly enjoyed this video! I recently had a dream that my husband and I went on our first train/sleeper ride and enjoyed scenery like what you've shown! You two are amazing! Love your smiles and energy! Glad I found your channel :)

Another amazing video. I've been on this train a few times. It's absolutely gorgeous the views your treated to. Going along the Columbian river was my favorite part I think. God bless America.

I've been on that line hundreds of times, literally. SLO local here! Let me now if you over come through here again, we have a charming little airport too. It's a shame you missed the Parlor Car days where sleeper class had an extra private car. The Pacific Surfliner mirrors the Coast Starlight route between LA and San Luis Obispo but it also travels southward to San Diego. You have to see the LA scenery with the right kind of eyes. Honestly, some of the really good graffiti in the spillways can be like a moving art gallery to me. Also, LA is a much more industrial city than it gets credit for being. It's definitely "ugly" but in that ugliness I can find it to be interesting and beautiful in its own way. No matter which direction you go, north or south, you'll soon be greeted by friendly and rustic coastlines so it's a very cool contrast. Cheers!

I had the pleasure of taking one trip when the Parlor Car was available to sleeper passengers. The was an optional wine and cheese tasting for a small fee. As we sipped wine and admired views, I felt like I was traveling during the golden age of railroading.

@@mariegarside8830 It's a shame they had to retire those cars, they were unique amongst all the Amtrak lines and gave sleeper passengers an exclusive place to go outside of their rooms. I hope they come back.

@@wizardmix The last I read about the Parlor Car it was scrapped. Sad we lost a piece of history.

I did this journey the other way round and stopped in San Francisco for a week. I did it in 1994 and still remember it vividly. I'm british so the envy of my friends. It was amazing.

Love riding the Coast Starlight and the other western long-distance trains. The only negative is that there is no longer the Pacific Parlour car which was awesome and exclusively for sleeping car passengers.
