Elmo with an Ibáñez! Nearly fell of my seat. I thought a 70s style Stratocaster had been attached to him surgically. Flashback for me all the way. Tone Print technology is very neat.

I'm a bassist, new to guitar, building my first pedal board for playing heavy metal, had my eye on the MXR until you critiqued it, so I got questions... Any difference between the black or sparkly green MXR? Also, there's a neon green one that's 'brighter'? Should I consider that for metal? Is a "darkened" tone a bad thing if playing extreme metal? Or is the brightness all the more important since all the lower-end instruments are dark enough for overall sound in melodic metal? Did the modulation feature increase brightness? What's wrong with the MXR when looping? I'm confused... You weren't looping a backing rhythm, you were just soloing. I don't think I plan to use a loop pedal anyway but wanted to ask. Does the MXR just not mix well with another sound coming out of the amp simultaneously? Also if I just need a basic delay and don't need a lot of extra features, is the mini Flashback good enough, don't need the bigger four-knob one?

Hey man have you tried the -10/+4db on the fx loop? I have a 2203 and the mxr CC is great to me, never had the problem you had here

I got both the thing i liked about the flashback standard,mind u was the loop n dotted eighth setting the 2290 was the real reason tho...however the thing i discovered when i used it....was the seamless dead quiet switch no click or pop engaging on n off and i mean none. I like that Carbon copy cant do that in fact none ive tried can

The tc detects the levels so it’s loop friendly . It’s a very versatile pedal with some great tone prints both tape style , echorec , etc . It has a great dm2 tone print . Beam it in . Simple .

Do you think I would be able to dial in similar kind of delay on Boss DD-8, as you did with TC Electronics... I want to add slight delay which would sound similar to a reverb effect - the kind that Andy Timmons achieves with Strymon Timeline (yeah, I know, but you can buy DSL 20 for that money)

I had same problem with MXR analog chorus, it did darken the sound even on bypass. Its a bummer that you pay shit load of money for something that doesnt work properly. Boss waza delay also darkens sound a bit when in loop.

Its your marshall loop. My marshall does the same thing. I play mine through my friedman andbluguitar amp 1 and have no issue at all.

The standard CC does darken the overall tone. The repeats are dark and muffled, and stick to the dry tone. Sent mine back.

Wow, that's a surprise. Started off thinking that the MXR would annihilate the Flashback, which seemed far too fiddly to dial in. Can't believe they would make such a fundamental error in the build electronics. Must get some new glasses - kept seeing too many strings on the guitar :) .

Yeah, I was surprised as well. It seems it's actually quite common. I've had the same with a couple of other delays. The Flashback is the only one that has been good so far. Going to try the Ocean Machine by Mooer this week.

Wow Elmo, that's a beautiful 7 string ibanez you have, I've never seen that design it looked cool, about the delay pedals personally I think that your guitar sounded better without either of those delays .... Maybe try a quality rack delay with 100's presets or you can programme your own as I'm sure you'd know, I know You want a pedal but it's all about the sound though isn't it ? As Eddie Vanhalen said " I just use s bit of jape" He meant that he used delays & other effects but you'd only notice them if you turned them off . That's how he got the " brown sound " as he called it . If it was me I'd keep looking the sound & the tone you have is great , those pedals where very disappointing & took away from your sound the answer is you have to keep looking to find something you like & doesn't take away from your sound. All " true "guitarist who have a pro setup trying to get that perfect tone they're after. It's part of building a board as I said . You looked genuinely disappointed but that's part of the journey , you'll be tweaking your sound for as long as you play. The biggest problem is cost, maybe try them out before you buy them , the day your happy with your sound to the point of stopping tweaking it & happy with your playing to the point you think you ( I mean this in general ) are so good you don't need to practice is the day that person should give up playing, you'll never be truly happy with your sound that's part of the journey . Take care Elmo. P.S. What kind of noise suppresser do you use it doesn't change your sound at all . It would be much appreciated ❤️

Thanks! It's an Ibanez Universe. I think this model was made in 1990 and 1991. The noies suppressor is a Boss NS-2.

The carbon copy problem happens because your amp uses -10db (instrument) signal strength for the loop. If you have a switch for line level (+4db) it will solve your issue 100%.

My amp does. I don't remember exactly what happened, but I do remember it didn't solve the problem.

@@MrPolevaulter correct. It did not solve the problem for me either. The carbon copy works only in the front end of the amp. I use pedals for gain, and as long as you set the repeats and mix right, it does the job. I also have the tc flashback mini. For it size and crazy low price point, it is the best delay pedal in the world. My old boss dd3 sounded great in the Marshall loop to.

For me most of MXR and TC pedals are overhyped crappy toys. I had MXR blue analog chorus (Zakk Wyld signature). The same tone darkening like with Carbon Copy.

That's a surprise how much tone suck from the mxr.....you can safely run it at 18 volts,that should give you enough juice for your loop which is to hot,probably line level.You can try a buffer in front of the mxr as well and bring up the db's.
