I used to wear the abaya with my hijab, but travelling on public transport, even just walking, I was tripping over it, twice it got caught on something sharp and ripped, so I decided to wear a long blazer/coat with a long loose skirt which I am actually more comfortable in and Am actually more covered up because the material is thicker and is fully lined, unlike some abayas which are so thin.

I have been in the USA and Canada for 50 years and have only seen respect given to woman with hijab. I believe some of us men , our eyes are tired and hurt by the nakedness and objectification of woman in this capitalist materialistic society. That the men get relief and peace in their eyes to see the beauty of a woman in modestly covered clothes.

Most definitely the females of Ahlul Bayt would be wearing hijab. You see some mothers putting hijab on girls similar age in masjid. So they become familiar with it.
