It hadnt jumped the shark yet like Fast 5 started too so it was still grounded, but, it also didnt have the cheesiness of the first three either. The tone was quite dark that it set since it revolved around Letty dying and Dom finally choosing to no longer run. I mean the only humorous scenes I remember was Brian breaking that FBI guys nose (which he did again in Fast 7).

Not only the ridiculous amount of damage going on, but one of the things that really bothered me about the first scene is that each of them put in at least $3500 into the pot when one of the racers supposedly needs to make ends meet on rent. Like...okay...you somehow can't make rent...but you have $3500 to throw around willy nilly on a racing pot...and you have a Toyota Supra with aftermarket parts (which even at that time would cost you around at least 40 grand). It was really hard for me to suspend my disbelief and not burst out laughing.

When Early crashed his Supra into the Pepsi product placement sign; there's a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse product placement sign right next to it. That year, Mitsubishi was promoting the arrival of the Mitsubishi Evolution 7 (Evo) finally making its way over to the states, but they also were still trying to promote their 2000 to 2003 revamped 3rd generation Mitsubishi Eclipse which NO car tuner liked since it was non turbo, not Japanese made, and slow and ugly as shit lol But yet Mitsubishi had a joint partnership with this movie (besides the other product placement companies) and it just came off as forced since everyone that was into cars knew that car was not liked. Kinda telling because considering the first F&F movie came out in 2001, the first director absolutely could have cut a deal with Mitsubishi to promote the then new 3rd generation Eclipse, but instead they opted for the mid 90's 2nd gen Eclipse, which was indeed a fan favorite car for actual real life tuners; that and of course, later on in the movie, the iconic orange 90's Toyota Supra. By that time both cars were discontinued on the market. Though this movie did get it right with putting in the 90s era R34 Nissan Skyline which was Japan only. Though I suspect that was specifically a request made by Paul Walker that somehow he convinced the studio to do. The Skyline shoulda been the hero car though and Tyrese should have drove the Evo. The DVD home release of the first movie had come with a Fast & Furious 1.5 short movie showing Brian's journey from CA to Miami on the run from the cops. He had a red twin turbo Mitsubishi 3000GT, and it also showed how he acquired the R34 Nissan Skyline which was cool.

1st Fast and Furious a classic. 2 Fast 2 Furious a overall entertaining film. Tokyo Drift a misunderstood movie but a cult classic. Fast and Furious 4 back to the basic. Fast 5 best one in the series without doubt. Fast and Furious 6 got The Rock it got interesting. Furious 7 it was good but not great also a swan song to Paul Walker should've ended the series as whole. The Fate of the Furious 8 hybrid of James Bond movies and Fast and Furious movies. Fast 9 car going in space? absolute WTF is this movie?
