This movie despite its inaccurate details on cars (& physics). Had an enormous impact on car culture, the hype and interest around modified japanese cars blew up and tuner shops actually reported an increase in customers after the movie was released. It's one of the reasons i grew up dreaming of owning a skyline or supras instead of a lamborghini or ferrari. Enormous impact on me, just made me love cars more. Could even recall all the cheesy one liners to this day.

Back in 04, was driving for an auto supply, delivery service. Had this stop on 16 Mile, between Rochester and John R. It was like stepping onto the set of a F&F flick. All the women were rocking miniskirts and halter tops. All the guys were bare armed, with barbed wire tattoos and backwards baseball caps. Nu-Rock was blasting from the speakers. If it wasn’t for the fact I might’ve lost my job and gotten my ass kicked, would’ve laughed hard enough to nearly pass out.

Tokyo Drift has the most street racing of the franchise and even that had a little extra something with Han's 'death'. The first one ended with the heist on those truckers.
@thedefinitionisthis
@thedefinitionisthis Жыл бұрын
If we're being real, the only movie in the series that's purely about street racing is "Tokyo Drift". And yet, that movie is widely regarded as the worst one, or at least one of the worst ones. True, the main character is as charismatic as a twig, but i appreciate the story actually banking on him learning how to race in the drifting style, and the movie culminates with him having to race his rival to settle their feud. The first two movies are more about having to solve crimes that are tangentially connected to street racing; but racing isn't what solves any problem in those movies.

I've only seen the first film once. It's not a great film, but I do have positive memories of how it affected people around me at the time. I was about 17 and working at a movie theater when the first one came out. That movie stayed sold out for weeks. At one point, all the male employees started souping up their (old) cars and started racing each other during lunch breaks. One night, one of the assistant managers crashed their brand new mustang convertible in the parking lot while trying to race one of the employees. Luckily, no one got hurt, but it was still funny.

People like the grounded stuff, but honestly people overlook that they did the thing all the conservatives say they should. AKA make your own characters and don't steal ours as they always say...speaking on old comic and stories from the past where everyone knows most weren't minorities for obvious reasons they ignore. But now that a series did, and proves minorities can run a film, you see this intense hate. Even from minorities. I also think the take that they should have kept it simple was dumb. Or that they should have stopped. If iron man 1 was equal in stakes and story to infinity war, id be disappointed. the jaded critics would eat a grounded character study up but mass audiences still enjoy spectacle.

I had never seen the first film until we watched it in a producing class I was in because my professor had a copy of the script and felt like it was a good example of how to write action in a screenplay. While this film is certainly a products of the 2000s, I agree with y'all that they way they filmed tge action especially with the ending, the way they portray the culture, and the charisma of the actors particularly Vin Diesel is very present in this and kind of missing in the later films as they have gotten more fanciful. Although it interesting to see what these films have turned into, how far they've come or what you can do with them. Which is what I think has made them so universal and appealing to people. In addition to what youtuber Patrick H Williams once brought up about how these films aren't based on or adapted from any other property so they can do what whatever they want with the story.
@nichescenes
@nichescenes Жыл бұрын
yeah, some of their points are on it, but a lot of their stance comes from a notch on their shoulder that I hate aka, many hate the new films and take it out that the others are better. AKA the prequels are actually not that bad and the sequels are worst effect. The new movies made a change and by 5 it was what made it big...the family and other aspects are still there just more explored, but yes its harder to see because the acting is more mass audience appeal with simple dialogue that can be translated to mass audiences.

Actually in the 90's before Playstation 2 came out with the DVD movie switch player option. DVD home movie players were stationed at the saling price of $600- $1000. Then Sony's second generation game system with same movie play function busted out around $299 or something like that. That's why the PS2 remains the highest profit margin home console game system to today's record. I remember this because I recall looking in store catalogue sent through the mail back in the day and couldn't believe that was what Sony was offering for the next gen console during that time as equal to competitors.

One thing I always commend the franchise for is how the series has evolved from being this Point Break ripoff to being essentially the "Saints Row" of movies. Even the action set pieces are different & creative enough to where they're not repeating the EXACT same stunts as the last one. Am curious how Fast X will turn out for me, as I was told by enough people F9 was the worst & it was in my opinion one of the better entries in the franchise; not Top 5, but enough to where I was more entertained by it compared to Fast 8 or Hobbs & Shaw. As for the original F&F, I agree with Korey & Martin about that climax truck chase feeling so tense & I'm pretty sure they don't use any music as the scene is already tense as it is without needing any music cues to feel that kind of emotion. Still surprised that Rob Cohen directed this as it seems like he had just this on his belt to show he was a competent filmmaker, but did NOTHING else to showcase his potential. If you want a decent 2000's throwback double feature at a drive-in, I'd recommend this & the 1999 Mummy film; really fun time.

Love this movie. There's a part in the film where they messed up the editing a bit, it's when Brian's first car gets blown up and just before that scene happens Brian asks Dom "What was that all about?" and Dom answers (don't remember what he said) and later when they walk away from the car that blew up the exact same lines are said lol.

The soundtrack is extremely awesome, plus Ja Rule was suppose to reprise his role in future Fast & Furious Projects but went complete hideous.

The cultural significance of this movie cannot be understated, part of the world changed because of this movie. The entire car culture shifted because of this

1:48 Martin "IS IT TWO MORE!" Buckle up folks, it's gonna be a long ride! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 The last one I watched in succession was Tokyo Drift. Then I didn't watch another one until F8: Fate of the Furious and it was such a shock to the system that my brain just gave up and I fell asleep in the theater until they blew up something else. After that, I honestly gave up on trying to figure out the story or the plot and just watch it for the cars and stunts. Someday I'll go back and watch F5-F7 and everything in between 🙄🙄🙄

As a person that had a few friends in HS that modded cars to go to races and car meets it's pretty realistic.

Man, I'm just mad they never brought Leon back! The only one of the original crew that never returned in another movie who didn't die. He was low-key one of my favorite characters.

To be fair things like the right stuff were at a time where space traveling was still nascent and technology rapidly advancing is going to make that so easy to the point where well be sleeping during the ride instead of enjoying the view

Gotta say, i know fans of DT will love this video but korey and crew gotta admit, from day one they weren't really that into this franchise and when your dragged into watching it yes, you become those annoying, "remember when this was about DVDs" people. Yes that all makes sense till you learn those people are the same cadence of, "Marvel should have ended at endgame" or Attack on titan season 4 is trash, or etc. They group up with the same people pushing the stance that a show should end as quick as it can when it hits a peak they enjoy instead of letting a show go as the author wants. Hey maybe the next story isn't for you, but someone enjoys it. Why take away their enjoyment. You love all practical effects, (you also like to overlook that the newer movies did practical so well you cant tell they are practical and say they are fake cause wires are used) ok. Just don't act like a fan cause you enjoyed the first movie at about a 3/5. ALso the OMGOSH its just point break people are dumb too...OMGOSH TITANIC IS JUST A MOVIE ABOUT A SHIP, OMGOSH a story is just a beginning middle and end. OMGOSH...

I binged the first six movies back in early 2014 since I'd never seen any of them before at the time. Since then, I've seen each one in the theaters-except Better Luck Tomorrow, which I watched at some point for the first time after seeing F9 almost two years ago. Only seen each movie once, but bought them all though.

Luckily with the writers strike, Universal can still make Fast and Furious movies since it's pretty obvious there isn't any script but just crayon doodles from Vin Diesel that the director, actors and CGI houses go off.
