Regarding "consulting the residents" , in EVERY case of consultations the outcome is decided upon before the consultation process is announced. The only reason the consultation is conducted is because it is required by the Local Government Act 2020. Nowhere in that act does it require the council to implement any ratepayer/resident input.

The permit is still a money grab. They should just go case by case. You could have 5 unregistered cars, neatly stored under cover in the back yard or sheds, not affecting anybody's health, comfort or well being. Or you could have one, single unregistered, gutted parts car, in the front yard, infested with rats in long grass, but that's ok, no permit required.

Well if they want to enforce the laws why only picking on a certain category of persons?? Here where I live there are unregistered Ute on the nature strip for more than one year, a caravan park on the road for about 3 years now with people living in it?? Power cord running across path way, boats park on council parking on the road etc…. I left one unregistered car on the road in front of my property for 2 hours and I got a sticker on it?? So how fair is that . I always thought Council jobs was to pickup rubbish, repair the road, keep public places clean but now they are playing cops grabbing money off anyone they can ….

To clarify, the Mayors role is part time. Not unusual for the relevant Departments to respond to issues. The Mayor in any case would not have sufficient knowledge on specifics. None of us would expect the Premier or PM to respond directly.

If it's not worded in their laws themselves, then their statement means diddly squat. If they mean what they say, then there needs to be amendments to those laws. I know what you are going through, our shire council just increased our rate here in our little outback town of Exmouth WA 50 to 100%. I will be paying $4700 per year and a friend is going up to $6400 per year, they are scammers and we get very little for our money. This is on top of home insurance of $5000 to $10,000 per year, you know the old saying "greed is good"
