Well, when you’re having them do crazy things talking about dominating control, force, and fear that’s a lot for an owner to take in Anytime I watch his videos. It’s so chaotic and I don’t know how the owners are able to go home and work with her dogs after his sessions. I get where he’s coming from, but some of his cases are not as severe as his methods and the fact that no updates are done once the dog goes home kind of is a red flag as far as knowing if those methods are really working

I think people forget that the vast majority of owners in these videos are not like totally immersing themselves in dog training like a lot of us. I personally think it takes a few things; you have to want to be better at it for the sake of your dog and your relationship with them, you need to be crazy observant or learn to be. Mainly so you can pick.up.on behaviors, mannerisms body language etc. then be able to tie it to your knowledge base. If not it's essentially inapplicable, so to apply it you've then got to be around a lot of dogs in 1 way or another. But yea, it's a learning process and it needs to be tweaked for different situations, br eds and situations for sure

I know right!? the same happened to me. I think I was so used to owning cats that I forgot I can be the leader of my pack. I totally let my CHIHUAHUA be my leader without even noticing (and I tell you, it didn't end well) Joel has helped me so much to be more assertive and confident when dealing with my dogs. He also made me really comprehend that just because my dog is tiny I shouldn't see him as less as what he is: a dog; not a baby, not a toy, not a cat or smtg. a dog who needs different things and a different lifestyle

You've taught her WELL ! As a child I was nervous of Dogs because I didn't understand them. Needless to say, Dogs picked UP my nervousness and barked at me ! Once I clicked with a friend's puppy what barks MEANT, I started chilling, Dogs stopped barking at me (unless "PLAY with me !" barks), I chilled more, where I LEARNED that calm inside feeling, and claim MY place, and when older had several dogs AND used that knowledge working with semi wild animals like Deer, Wild Boar, Bison etc SO WISH I had had Joel's vids as a kid😊

As this video shows, it's not just about training the dogs how to behave, but it's also training the owners how to act and react to their dogs behaviour. Every action gets a reaction between owners and their dogs, change the reaction, change in the future action will follow. Great stuff as always Beckman.

I'd say it's more training the human than the dog, like 90/10. When you understand dog psychology your able to open communication up and the dogs respond perfectly no matter how big and bad they thought they were. They know how to behave, just don't know that's what we want cause we are all chaos ourselves usually so they mimic it.

@@sairhug disciplinarian doesn't work with rotties or even giant schnauzers. They're too smart for that. Setting boundaries and limitations along with bringing out their work ethic is essential. My rotties loved to work and please me. Once I got that rolling, all was way easier. The giants are a bit different. Life is one big fat game with them, and repetition is likely to produce boredom. Anybody without a sense of humor does not want this breed. She'd do an exercise perfectly twice. Third time, there go the eyebrows and she's off at full speed, doing something hilarious, leaving mommy on thw ground laughing. So training becomes a fun game in shorter spurts. NOT SO WITH ROTTIES. They'll work all day and love it. When they're being a jerk, give them some work. Ditto my Black Russian Terrier.

Love hearing you go over all the terms of operant and classical conditioning. While these terms and methods make sense, the ways in which they are executed (in common methods) to reduce behavorial problems is most certainly long. Reminds me of how you take negatively reactive dogs and choose to let them meet other dogs rather than sitting out in a field miles away and treating the dog. While not everyone has access to such willing, good dogs and people; your methods are certainly a lot more realistic and attainable than most.

I moved from suburban New York to rural Virginia on 12/15/2023. I have three dogs (a black Labrador, a rescue Shepard mix, a rescue Boxer/Pitbull mix). I have a large fenced-in yard where my dogs can have freedom. I love to walk by myself or with my dogs. Unfortunately, many people who live near me have their dogs loose on their property unattended. So, over dozens of times, six different dogs have run up to us. Thank God no problems have occurred yet. Speaking of Rottweilers, I had a scary encounter with two of them. On Easter 2024, I walked by myself very far from my house... Upon returning home being far away, I was on a road where cars drive by fast... I was walking past a house with quite a bit of acreage... I saw two massive Rottweilers playing from the distance on the property... They saw me as I was walking, and they came charging at me (they did not bark nor growl)... I then instantly tried to relax, walk peacefully, and mind to myself... When they got closer to me, they slowed down and positioned themselves on my right and left sides, about 7 feet from me... I kept glancing at my left and right sides to see if they were going to do anything malicious... They followed me like this for a minute, and they eventually stopped on their neighbor's property just standing in place looking at me as I walked farther in the distance (never barked or growled)... One of them almost got hit by a car because, upon returning to its property, it walked in the middle of a busy road... When they returned home, I was so relieved that I was in one piece, but at the same time the realization that it could have gone bad set in... I no longer go anywhere near that house... When I do walk, I constantly check my surroundings. By the way, I love your channel, and I have utilized methods of yours for my dogs. I notice a tremendous difference between the three of them. In addition, I watch your videos on dog body language, which has been useful for the times when some dogs have approached us when we walk. For me, dog body language is difficult for me to keep track of. Recently, I was walking my boxer/pit mix, and a dog I had never seen before ran to us... We stopped, and they were sniffing each other, especially each other's butts (okay, good sign)... Then this dog's face leaned and got directly in front of my dog's face, and they were staring into each other's eyes for a duration standing still (Ah, oh, that does not look good)... I then yelled "Hey" at this dog, took a stomp forward, and yelled "Get out of here" with my arm pointed to have the dog go away... The dog looked at me and returned to its property. So, I act assertively when I feel it is necessary during these annoying situations of random dogs getting loose. I am always trying to learn and improve working with my dogs and to learn and to improve how to handle situations with loose dogs in our presence. Looking forward to new videos.

This was an excellent video and great method to use 100% I have a client that "rescued" a Chitcago street bite and shake dog that literally wants to take the flesh from me every time it sees me or hears me. I wish to God I could get her to use your methods. I've even offered to be the stimulus if she'd want to try. Swimming is a very physical activity, and a relatively simple one in terms of factors. There's you, water, and air. If the water tries to get between you and the air too much, you beat it up to get it out of your way. Someone could explain theory to you all day, talk about buoyancy and the axis of movement and translating muscle power into momentum and so on, but you will never fully understand until you're actually doing it. Unlike dogs, though, water doesn't have a lot of complicated behaviors and reactions that you have to account for even when you're just starting out (assuming you're in a pool, and not in a natural body of water with currents and wind action and other things). :D

I would explain it all using the theory of the 5 domains (which is validated also by the L.I.F.E. study). When you train a dog, you have to evaluate the dog's welfare with the 5 domains. But not only, as you say as a dog trainer you should also evaluate the owner's request and your welfare as additional domains related to your job. If a dog can't suffer stress should the owner suffer it? Is this what Force Free trainers want?

The owner really needed and wanted the help and put in practice what Joel was saying. If these dogs came from the same litter that is a big problem, that began with the breeder who sold him two rottweilers out of the same liter at the same time. That is a huge no no especially with these types of dominant and aggressive dogs There is something called littermate syndrome. Raising one Rothweiler to be a behaved and good canine is hard enough why have two untrained rottweilers? It is nothing wrong with having two dogs but there must be a huge space between them like two or even three years. Otherwise, the puppies' bond with each other and less with the owner. And a lot of behavioral issues happen. I have a mixed American Pitbull who is part Corso. He is a beautiful looking dog extremely bright but high drive and dominant. Excelled guardian dog and extremely protective. But he needs a lot of training which I have been doing. He is now 3 years old, and I am going to purchase another Pitbull next year from a good breeder. It will either be a band dog or Purebred Pitbull. This breeder has been around for decades and knows his breed and they all come with papers. I watch all his KZbin videos. So, I am really doing my research on the breed because I will be paying a lot of money. By the time I purchase the Band dog or the pure-bred American Pitbull Terrier from the breeder my current dog will be almost 4 years old. I would never buy two puppies from this breeder even though they are high quality working line dogs. The fact that there will be a four-year difference between my current dog and the puppy I will be buying next year ensures that I can avoid a lot of behavioral issues. And a puppy can take the lead from an older trained dog in the pack. It may be possible for this man to get his Rottis under control, but it is going to be a lot of work and money.

Hi Beckman I have a young male malinois that I'm having trouble with, he loads, charges, lunges, and has bit my dad and gone after other dogs on leash. I watch your videos but I know in my heart I'm not doing it correctly he is about 8 or 9 months old soon to be neutered I don't want to have a year old dog that is a menace. I can't take him to meet any dogs. Unless they are older dogs like almost elderly dogs. But then I'm still keeping him on leash with a muzzle he also hates other men that he doesn't know. I need help getting it through his head and mine how to be relaxed in public. There are more issues than this, but if I can get a full video of how he and I look and send it to you can you critique please. I'm open to your teachings no other program has worked for him.

My old landlord had 2 rottie mixes who would go absolutely mental whenever the mailman came by. It got to the point where he started refusing to drop mail in the mailbox. My two rotties were the best family dogs i ever had, my girl was sweeter my intact german was kinda a dick sometimes, chewed every door handle in my house so the doors permanently locked so he was able to herd me my daughter boxer and even himself. He claimed my bathroom, cold tile floor, would go in and close and lock the door behind him. My Jaegey😂❤

Lots of sketchy ones. I agree. I’ve met a handful that were awesome..but there’s too many that are bred out of standard with bad temperaments. I will say though..I don’t find them an attractive breed. It’s those beady little eyes lol

Yes, I just got a pug puppy and I'm on guard against myself letting things slide now. I can't stand small dogs that ricochet off furniture and bark all the time and jump on people. But she's so damn cute I have to be stern with myself and think about how she'll be as an adult if I don't train her to behave properly.
