My biggest concern with Boquete is that is seems residents must constantly battle mold. I'm not sure how available whole house dehumidifiers are, but that kind of appliance seems essential to prevent mold from damaging paper/books, leather goods/clothing, and ones health.
@brian19883 ай бұрын
Boquete is very nice, but it has become more expensive over the past decade as more expats move into the area. In some respects it's becoming what people wanted to escape FROM in their home countries, in terms of housing expense, restaurant expense, general expense, and traffic. My mother-in-law is Panamanian from Chiriqui, and she is always complaining about how the 'rich' expats 'over-tip' at restaurants, creating an expectation that 'everyone' must now tip more. What I consider a 'fair' tip based on USA standards, she fights me to reduce at almost every restaurant.😂 The people highlighting Boquete as a great place to live are actually causing the area to become the opposite of why they state it's a great place to move TO.😂 It's a double edge sword. More development can mean better infrastructure, more variety of services, more schools, etc. However, it also brings more expense, and dilutes the native culture. I hear people talk about the challenge of learning the new language, but they should have expected that aspect before moving to a Spanish-speaking country. Rather than work to assimilate into the new culture and language, they group together and expand in order to create the environment that they moved FROM, where they felt more familiar and comfortable. That's kind of what Boquete has become as it is highlighted more and more by KZbinrs and the relocation companies. Just my observations.

Ré, can you start making Pros and Cons videos ? I think your style is excellent for that type of video. Especially since alot of folks are facing confusion and having second thoughts about various countries due to factors of climate, crime, cartels, healthcare, droughts, visas, etc. Plus there is the very real problem of opposition about gentrification and takeover by foreigners. It's happening in Costa Rica and is going to grow.

@@adventurefreaksss I'm glad to help. Your videos are always substantive. Here's another thought, maybe you could have a roundtable of more than one expat in a discussion, and a group of several expats from different countries discussing issues as they look from their different locations.
@laurastaley76276 ай бұрын
@@adventurefreaksss Maybe take the issues you usually cover like cost of living, food, healthcare, what people can do (lifestyle), throw in other big topics that come up in your comments, like weather and transportation, and assign what you know to pros and cons. It might be good to do it on cities rather than countries since cost of living varies in a country along with availability of housing, healthcare, and other factors.

The climate in Panama City would force many of us to confine ourselves to air conditioning a lot of the time, which isn't any better than confining oneself because of cold in other places. These Great places to live in Panama videos always avoid the Elephants in the room. Your ethnicity and your social status, what's great for Europeans from the West, or an Asian, or a Black person varies greatly as well as the community you want to live in and the lifestyle you want

Can you provide some examples of how it varies among these groups in Panama?

@@adventurefreaksss I live in San Miguelito, I can ride the metro, shop at the malls, go to restaurants and pretty much go anywhere in the city and be surrounded by people that look like myself, I'm a Black American. This is very comforting, I feel like I belong. Now in certain burrows the atmosphere is different like EL Cangrejo for example which has a lot of American Expats black and white. Or the city of Boquete, I try to limit my time in these areas because I primarily came here to get away from the American culture. If you notice, the Chinese population in Panama have their own areas, and the wealthy have their own areas. And I'm sorry to say the poor have their own areas as well, so to say "The best places to live in Panama" really depends on who you are

Panama City is good for a week visit, but it's a typical hot, humid, noisy, congested, and dirty city. There is no beach. $600 in Panama City will not get you a nice place. Boquette is nice weather wise, but it's rather boring, or maybe even extremely boring. Pay attention that at 5:50 he said a day trip to the beach is 4 (FOUR) hours round trip. That may be ok on a big bus, but in a car, truck, or van it's not woth the pain after a certain age.

I've never been there, but I have come to the same conclusion from watching videos. Maybe it's my age in my 60s. I just wouldn't be able to handle congestion, noise, heat or humidity, whether in Central America, Malaysia, Vietnam or Dubai. Not to mention living close to war zones like Europe or parts of Asia, or near drug cartels. It would be like going from the frying pan of the Woke culture of North America to the fires of other countries with the other problems.
