Nice trick! I'll incorporate that into my workflow. I believe that acting is a lot about tricking ourselves to make our body naturally, spontaneously and unconsciously reacts the way we want so we can grab this reaction and use it someway in our characters. I have some tricks for that. One of them is the "inner dialog". I try myt best to understand the character and make up some lines of dialog to say for my slf based on what the character would be thinking. Sometimes it complements what is being actually said, sometimes it contradicts it, deppends on the scene, but just by doing that more honest reactions start appearing in my performance. Another thing that I didn't used to do, but now I do because it makes a huge difference is not just moving my mouth to mimic the dialog, but atcually saying the dialog, using the power of my lungs, because a lot of things happen when we take the breath to do it. All the thought process happens a few frames before the dialog is actually delivered, it's always an antecipation, and when I use these tricks I'm able to archieve that.

All good methods and so agree about actually saying the dialogue!

It's nice to think about tricking ourselves. I realise that I tend to skim through reference shooting. And I end up doing the same kind of motions from one reference to another. I find it hard to break the mold sometimes. Thanks for the info and nice segway on your workshop. :)

Nice tip on writing something down to read. I've used neon post-it notes and stuck them around the room when I need lol.

0:11 I first thought "Wait! Did I just see JD wearing a police hat in the bottom left corner of the screen?" Rewinded... Oh! It's a light in the background that is over your Twitter account icon that makes it look like a badge on a hat. 😄

awesome! Thank you! it also help me to start recording during the rehearsal period ... trying ideas, and it does feel more honest because I'm not aware of the camera, but as soon as I start "acting" it feels forced, it is always challenging and it takes me a bunch of trials before picking the "best" performance lol . Still learning! :D

Totally agree! It’s the more natural takes in-between the takes that end up being gold!
