Slide not going full battery is caused by the recoil rod spring not pretensioned at full extension. No matter how strong the spring is, if the tension is not there at full extension, it will not help seat into full battery, only relying on the momentum of the slide, which is not enough to overcome all the friction in the gun, and ammo against the ramp. Same issue was on Mossberg MC1sc, simply swapping to a better (same strength) pretensioned aftermarket slide spring solved it 100%.

Seems like this "training" round is pretty pointless. When I was still in the Army, the axiom was that you trained like you would fight in war. Even with training rounds on the Bradley. they may have not had the same punch, they ballistically would mirror actual combat rounds.

I think it is interesting that, for all the 'progress' of small arms cartridges, we are basically going to field a short barrel suped up version of the 7x57 Mauser. We changed it to .30, we scaled it down, we copied its ballistics with the 7mm-08 which we then ignored, we jumped to a small lightweight high velocity cartridge, chopped the balls off of it with short stubby barrels and carbine gas systems, and then came full circle to a .27 caliber bullet of medium weight moving at medium speeds, a not to far cry from the slightly longer 7x57 with easily copied ballistics if you throw a medium weight .28 caliber spitzer on top, although granted from a short barrel, and it only took 130 some odd years to circle back. Even if we start from .308 Win, did it really take 70 years to accept that necking the case down to .26-.28 caliber was a good idea? Talk about a slow moving machine.

It's interesting, the issue with the slide you are having looks similar to what I have found for myself with my glock 19x...i tend to get my grip juuuuuust a bit too high/support hand pushes in too much sometimes and it induces a failure...in my case I'm accidentally engaging the slide lock. Sig sells the M17 on the open market. ETA after hearing Ian’s comment: Sig sold off the initial batch of M17s used in one of the trials, those would have been the surplus ones

@@AbsolutionArmament the military M17's are the same as the military M18's. No lightening cuts, different attachment of the rear plate, etc. The safety changes to the civilian P320 were based on what they did with the M17. And no, there's no plans I've heard of to switch the M17 for the M18.

Not sure how much that M17 has been shot but something I have noticed with all of my 320s and various grips and slides is that in particular with the full length pistols and new frames the polymer is a bit tight on the dust cover and can give you issues going into battery until you dab a little oil on the side and work it out either with range time or just running the slide at your desk etc. I've been wanting to get a manual safety FCU for awhile just to have that bootleg M17 look on my full size

Never met a soldier or marine who wanted a heavier rifle to carry. My dad went from the M-14 to the M-16 and never heard him complain about the M-16 being too light.
@risby19302 жыл бұрын
@Dick Izzinya No argument with the M-14 having a more stopping power, but according to my old man, the draftees (Vietnam) had very little interest in marksmanship. One of his responsibilities was training new fresh recruits on the range. By the way, he usually carried an M2 and was an excellent shot with that little carbine.

What went wrong with the pistol? I always thought the 320 family was pretty reliable. Just shooting at the range, I've never had any malfunctions with mine in the roughly three to five thousand rounds I've put through it.
@jubuttib2 жыл бұрын
Some other comments have said that it might be the initial break in period. A couple of comments here said they'd had the same issues when they were new, and a few extensive range sessions sorted it right out.

Yeah I was curious as well. I have a 320 X-Carry, basically similar to the M-18 with approximately a 1000 rounds of mostly 115 grain FMJ as well as some defenseive rounds through it and I don't think I've ever experienced a malfunction.

Mean Rounds Between Stoppages for M17 with the JHP ammo is 1,880. According to Beretta, their M9 has a MRBS of 17,500 with FMJ. I have a video about handgun reliability if you want to watch it.

I really want to see this go against a ar15 in a realistic short to medium range 2 gun match. I have a feeling the ar15 will dominate with it's ability to quickly move between targets and quick follow up shots.

My prediction is the Army ends up only using the M5 rifle with this all brass training ammo because of recoil. The 80k psi special cartridge will only be used in the M250 belt fed machine gun.

I can't help but wonder how much better off this would have been as a bull pup. They could have gotten same velocity with a longer barrel and same over all length. Solves many of the odd case issues and brings center of mass back into shooter helping balance the can.
