This tutorial is incredibly helpful. I'm currently struggling with the 1400~1500 range and often find myself repeatedly using the light punch. I think it would be best for me to return to training mode and follow your guidance. By the way, in this video 00:03:26 should I set the block to 'random' instead of 'block all'?

Absolutely! The top tiers are all able to use 3 lights and still apply mix in some way, it’s an incredibly important thing in this game

Weird question, but do you know if there are any good guides regarding how to utilize dash/backdash effectively (specifically as a movement option)? I just can't figure out how to use it intuitively -- especially when we're talking about close/mid range neutral
@Chris_F2 ай бұрын
Not that I know of. Backdashing is usually used to quickly create space between you and the opponent or to counter a meaty throw attempt in the corner on your wakeup. Forward dash can be used to quickly close space or for set play sequences after you knockdown the opponent
@conan8702 ай бұрын
For back dash, one good timing to use it is after you did a minus punch/kick to prevent a low mk+dr/jump.

How can I force a crosscut? Obviously with a shoto you may be able to walk forward and then DP the correct way, but I main Guile and sometimes the flash kick will either come out the wrong way or by the time he turns around their jump is safe from my flash kick.

Now I'm trying hard to one-hit confirm, which is incredibly difficult.
@Chris_F2 ай бұрын
1-hit confirm off lights?? That’s very, very difficult and not even that important in this game so I wouldn’t worry about it. Confirming a medium or heavy is important though
@EAprima2 ай бұрын
@@Chris_F That's right! Weak is the best option for executing a counter attack when the opponent is close-up, especially when the opponent performed a special such as Akuma's A-Flame. It's ridiculous though for Ryu lack of options means he is often trying to perform the near impossible of fitting a 4 frame weak attack into a 1-2 frame counter window. It goes to show you need to really know the frame data in this game. However, even then that can only help so much as Ryu is dealing against S & A tier characters that can mix-up every attack they do which leaves you continuously guessing (the 50/50 guessing part is what I hate the most in this game as it's done way too much). If I can put it another way, it's like S & A tiers are 3-dimensional characters and B, C and D tier characters are 1-dimensional characters. This means you are having two different gameplay philosophies trying to combat each other, which explains why all the tournaments are always seeing the same rank results since game launch. Indeed. One hit confirming a strong attack is what I'm trying to do more, such as what I call Ryu's Shotgun which is Heavy Punch into Lvl1/2. The key though is because of the move execution and the fact it's a one-hit confirm, it is near impossible to perform a shotgun in a way that it doesn't activate if the opponent blocked the move if you input it the "normal" way. So the workaround to achieving it is to take advantage of the Heavy Punch buffer window animation itself by inputting the directions but delay pressing heavy punch by a few milliseconds. That way, you can be sure that there is a confirmed hit before pressing heavy punch at the last second. Just in case you are not sure with what I mean (I think you definitely know because you're the man), please quickly to go 21:11secs in the "My Road to Master rank Ryu" video that is located in my channel (should be the third video). You'll see me playing against Luke where I did the Shotgun move. I was so happy when it came out. I got a long way to go though, trying to get the best out of Ryu that mostly have negative match-ups and only a few equal match-ups and doing it all on a 17-years old 6-button Arcade stick (Virtua Stick High Grade) that isn't working very well.

is there a reason you used a dummy recording instead of just setting the dummy to random block?
@Chris_F2 ай бұрын
I think I explained it briefly in the video, but with random guard, the dummy will block the first hit but get hit by the second hit which can kind of mess up your reactions. My method avoids that issue
@albieribetancourt162 ай бұрын
Does all this still apply on 3 it confirms Even though your pushed back farther?
@Chris_F2 ай бұрын
Yes and no, depends heavily on your character and the matchup. Point of this video is that, if you’re aiming for higher level play, you need to be able to hit confirm after 2 hits. It’s an essential skill.

@Chris_F2 ай бұрын
Great question! This is because I’m *chaining* lights, which means I’m cancelling late into the recovery frames into another light attack. This is a frame trap and will catch opponents pushing buttons. Btw, this ONLY works with lights as medium and heavy attacks cannot be chained from themselves
