As a native Spanish speaker, I can tell you, try learning like babies do, I do recommend comprehensible input, watching a lot of Spanish movies/series, comedy ones are the best, they use informal Spanish and colloquial phrases and you'll eventually get familiar with them. Don`t worry too much about grammar, first learn vocabulary If someone is really interested in learning Spanish, I will help! And having the subscript as well as the grading of her getting slightly more difficult as the podcast progresses is great listening practice to be able to understand how the language is spoken by a very large number of native spanish speakers.

i'd see it as a positive rather than a negative. sounds like the issue is more of a fear/mental block than a lack of a vocabulary. i find that reading newspapers and responding to tv shows -- both aloud -- help to build confidence in speech by getting your mouth in the habit to speaking.

Great concept in learning, the visuals with the spoken words, then present the written words. I think for the newer learners, at least in my case, the girl is hard to understand at times, like she doesn't speak clearly, yet maybe that's the way it is meant to be, the way people normally speak, but harder maybe only for me. Even the guy does similar and sometimes and I don't realize what has been said until the written words appear. For learning purposes though I think it's best to be especially careful to pronounce clearly. Thanks for taking the time to create this video, a great learning opportunity, and out of the goodness of your hearts.
@donwetherell87385 жыл бұрын
mwj5368 like English words roll into each other when talking fast. I agree the guy is speaking much clearer but the woman is speaking more native which is the best way to learn, especially when you have subtitles to read. It all falls into place reading the subtitles. Emulate the woman and you spanish will sound better and you will be understood better. It does take time and lots of practice.
@mwj53685 жыл бұрын
@@donwetherell8738 Hi don! Thanks for your response. Was it intended the guy speak more clearly? I see it is a good approach to learning Spanish. I repeatedly ask a new neighbor to speak slowly and she never does. I think speaking one sentence like one word is so natural to her she doesn't realize or attempt to slow down. It seems that her whole way of thinking is rolling one sentence to sound like one word. It's going to take me a very long time to learn Spanish enough to understand her. I remember when I was in Mexico asking people to slow down and maybe they will space apart speaking one sentence like one word, but still for many it remains speaking one sentence like one word. The only other thing I find myself doing, and I'm taking the opportunity to hear the spokenwords, is also to read the captions in both Spanish and English. Maybe there should be a pause between each interchange with the guy and the lady so one can read too the written words. They speak much faster than I can both read and understand the spoken word, so I am clicking to stop between each interchange. Maybe the intention is to also read quickly too and maybe this is designed for people who are like intermediate speakers, and I'm not there yet. Is this more for intermediate students? Thanks for all and for making possible to learn another language, a great contribution to humanity.
@donwetherell87385 жыл бұрын
mwj5368 I don't know how old you are but just ask yourself how long it took to speak your native language? When you're a child your parents, teachers and relatives etc are correcting you all the time so you can pick it up so much easier. Learning a new language takes even longer to learn but you have to stick with it and take every opportunity to use it. It doesn't matter if you're in the wrong verb conjugation or your pronunciation is a bit off. They will understand you. You have heard spanish speakers in broken English speaking bad English, you always get the idea of what they are saying. Do the same pero la verdad es, tienes que practicar todo el tiempo. Try listening to audiobooks, you may not understand but will quickly start hearing familiar words. Audible have some excellent learning recourses. Practice practice practice.

I love your video but I have a suggestion for your next video. I have been listening to and doing lessons in Spanish for so long that I believe that the only way I am going to improve is to practice reading. My suggestion is to post the Spanish first. Pause long enough to give your audience time to read the Spanish and translate it. Then read the Spanish twice to make sure that we are getting the sound of the words correct. Then on a new screen display both the Spanish and the English as you are doing in this video. This requires totally focusing from your audience so I suggest keeping the videos about 30 minutes each. At least don't make them more than an hour. I already do the sleep videos so what would help me most would be short videos where I can totally focus for a short period of time. I like to play solitaire while listening to longer videos which is why I want them short so I don't get bored and start playing cards. Thanks for doing these wonderful videos.

Hola. I'm 5 minutes in and have noticed that the future tense is used quite a bit. Is that common in conversation? Or is "ir + a + infinitive" more common? What about just using the present tense of any verb? For example, with "hacer," can you say, "Lo hago mañana?" Does usage depend on the country? Gracias por su ayuda. Edit: I love this concept. Pictures, Spanish captions, English captions. Very helpful. Hablo español mejor que lo comprendo. Eso es un poco raro, ¿no?

Spanish videos never seem to specify the origin of the language, despite there being some quite noticeable differences depending on where you are. This is Spanish from the Americas, I think mainly Mexico? However in Spain both the words and pronunciation change quite noticeably e.g swimming pool = La piscina and Car = El coche. The letters Z and C are pronounced with a 'TH' instead of the 'Ss' sound in the latin countries e.g Zapatos = 'Thapatos', not 'Sapatos'. You will be understood on this but there may be an issue with wording, for an obvious example in Spain asking for an 'Emparedado' might earn you a confused look before a sandwich. It is simply not used and is not even well understood in most of Spain. In some regions you may get a variation on a sandwich but here we commonly use 'Bocadillo' - which would easily be understood in the America's too. There are so many resources teaching different variations of Español and most don't specify which, it helps to know where it can be applied in conversation or at least whether or not you are learning the most common translations of English words. In regards to the speed of speech and the tutor's pronunciation, this is a really well put together resource. If you struggle at this tempo you should practice at slower speed and build it up, this is slow and audible compared to real life Spanish conversations. There are even rules in Spanish as to when you can merge vowels/ words together, so it can be tricky even just distinguishing each individual word in the sentence at times. Slow the video down if you need and practice just recognising every single word used. It will be important in future, it's a very fast and flexible language. Just because you can read or speak it doesn't mean you can hear or understand it , it takes lots of practice!

Hello, I want to clarify that the content of the video is a "generic" one. Many words are in reality not used or used in Central American countries but not in the South Cone. For example: "ordenar" (to order) we use actually: "pedir". Ordenar is used for the verb "to arrange" "to organize". Also, plenty of sentences sound "robotic".

@ItsMeShi if I say VOY A ARREGLAR LA MESA(I'm going to arrange/put right the table) I am sure that a native speaker would understand that I am going to PONER LA MESA(set the table, as we would say). So yeah, I agree. Cuz I know that even though we should learn the idioms, the main goal always is to be understood :)
@TheReverb16 жыл бұрын
@@frankfinley6674 ...yes; but I am learning Japanese and the stupid system (like this one) teach you first (without saying to the students) a formal robotic way to speak; then at some point you can see that the people USE other conjugation of the verbs etc! and talk different. In the precise case of Japanese is due to the main intention when they exploded economically in the late 70s early 80s were to receive businessmen from US and other English speakers, so based the learning in this robotic, too formal way thinking that you would travel there for a few days and come back without necessity to talk with the "normal" guy there. If you start to learn wrong, you never ever can change due to nobody tell you "hey your pronunciation is not correct" etc; so I my main language is not English but I understand pretty good the dialects and most of the pronunciations; also I do not speak like a guy from India, so if I am in US they think that I am English or viceversa
