I grew up in the french countryside, in the middle of nowhere. South-west of France, between millions of maritime pines. When you're young, it sucks. Then I moved to the big cities to study at the university and find better jobs. Now that I am older and a father, I miss the countryside. I miss the smell of trees, the birds, the quietness, the local food, slow living, etc.

I'm going to add a warning to this. We share the same childhood, and same early-adulthood, and I did make the move to the countryside now with my kid. You still do need a network of people to be around. This life, alone, can be alienating. I'm only starting to make friends in the village after 3 years, and those years were the loneliest of my life. We did have the birds, the quietness, the smell of trees. But without friends and family to share it with, and the fact that you can only still enjoy those on the weekends but still have to work full time sucks. The retiree life is cool when you do have the time and friends. Otherwise, it's just a nicotine patch.

When you said something about trying to figure out and make decisions about the “rest of your life” I thought that this might be an enduring problem. You mustn’t think that you should usurp your future self. Provide for your future indeed but always keep freedom in every stage of your life. It is an incongruity that you would think such a thing now as you are exercising life-changing freedom. I have entered my eight decade and have laid all of the groundwork for an international move to somewhere I have never been and never expected. The new house will be completed in May and I await getting the residency visa. I can’t imagine living now according to decisions made 10, 20, 30, or more years ago but I do thank the ability and freedom now afforded by things done then. I look forward to following your adventures.

You're an artist too! I love your episodes, your philosophy, your questions, your search for answers... you're so sympathetic!

I'm loving your storytelling so much. The expectation vs reality part is amazing. I always wish that creators can show us "some" bad things that happen in their lives. It inspires us the viewers who look up to you guys to know that you guys are human and your lives still have challenges like ours. We are not total losers. Life's a bit difficult for everyone at some point.

You speak the words of the soul and what we all think but don’t always have the courage to share. You’re allowing us to reconnect with ourselves, needs and desires. Please keep putting these videos, France is also my biggest inspiration for just about everything in life. I have the biggest wish to visit the south and you help me reach that dream. Merci beaucoup!

So glad you are back to making videos. We lived in the French village of Noyers-sur-Cher for a year and then out in the country in Mareuil-sur-Cher for another year and loved it. Can’t wait to hear more about your journey!
