Farley's honesty is refreshing from a legacy CEO. He knows that they are in an unfamiliar world - software ? AI ? Totally Robotic factories? And he is becoming acutely aware of the challenges - internal politics, Unions, gaining talented (software / AI) engineers, re-tooling factories, battery supply chain... I couldn't have said it better myself. Farley has indeed woken up and seen the light. He has brutally and honestly looked at the entire business and seems to be on the right track. I really do wish him luck in turning Ford around. I liked it when Farley said on the interview that i think you're referring to, that he doesn't plan on bringing out 27 different models. A very nice kick in the teeth to Mary BS Barra. It seems obvious that GM and Toyota will be sharing the same Tombstone. Oh shit, i used the word "woken". That means to "wake someone up" here in Australia. 😊

Farley can't even show his own lack of hair - he is incompetent and foolish. As a former Ford owner of nearly 40 years, I abandoned the cowardly and incompetently managed Ford - ditched my purchased new 1997 Ford that served me well for 180k miles and 22 years. Ford makes garbage these days - their best selling product is their Ford Recall.

It still surprises me how many people try to politicize EVs. I've been driving one for 10 years now and the thing I have heard so many times is that people assume I'm driving one to save the planet. They don't seem to understand that it is just a better, more convenient way to drive. Sure, there are things ICE vehicles still do better, but those advantages are shrinking fast.
@alexandrep4913
@alexandrep4913 Жыл бұрын
Questions. How many EVs have you had in those ten years? Can you drive the same EV for ten years? How much did you pay for the EV(s)? How much are repairs? It's just that so many times I've heard statements like yours but my personal research after wanting to buy one just shows me that a Toyota hybrid was the better option, in fact I missed out on a plug in hybrid and would have probably got one of those. I have little care about "saving" the planet over saving money. My worries in longevity and repairable problems do hold true to this day. Tesla and other brands that make EVs don't make the process of repairing ones car easy and its not because of lack of education on mechanic parts. I would love to own an EV and have my solar panels charge the EV. Yet if I can't keep my car longer than 7+ years, this means my wallet, investments and the earth suffers.
@davidc2838
@davidc2838 Жыл бұрын
@@alexandrep4913 Plenty of EVs on the road past 7 years. You have clearly NOT done research if you can't find that out. Ranting about Hybrids sounds just like Toyota talking points, but we've clearly found out that they are heading the way of the Dodo Bird, if they don't get their act together on BEVs. Hybrids have one of the worst records of Fires, Maintenance, etc. Just silly to have TWO entire systems in the vehicles, neither being optimized. In three years, this won't even be a question...much less by the time period Sandy was discussing from the political hack that wrote that opinion piece. Do better research...OR stop shilling for Toyota.
@albundy6284
@albundy6284 Жыл бұрын
@@alexandrep4913 There's no need to do regular repairs on Teslas like a gas vehicle because they simply don't have the complex mechanical systems to break down once the vehicle reaches 100k miles. I owned a Model 3 for 5 1/2 years and never had to put a penny into it except changing the cabin air filter and a set of tires, which you have to do on an any regular ICE car. Before that we owned a hybrid Prius and we ended up junking it for parts after the motor and regen system blew up at 105k miles. I paid 40k for my Model 3 and sold it for 35k, for a loss of 5k, but I saved 10k in gas and probably a thousand dollars in regular maintenance. The Prius was 30k and was sold for 3k in parts after years of maintenance and fuel costs. Lets all bear in mind that it is human nature to resist change and resist new methods and ideas even if they are superior. It's also human nature to close one's mind and follow others. Sandy is an open minded, out of the box thinker, which is why he's so prescient and successful at what he does. At the end of the day its an undeniable fact that the sequestered carbon stored in the earth's crust is a finite resource and we can't go on igniting it for eternity.

Thank you Sandy! I’ve been saying the same thing for over a year now whenever EV naysayers talk about the lack of infrastructure and range as being prohibitive to EV adoption. These people either through naivety, ignorance, or purposeful lying due to EV hate, TOTALLY ignore how the dawn of the automobile rolled out! People stating that it would never catch on. It would never replace the horse and buggy/carriage. They always break down and have to be saved by a horse. There are no roads designed for them. There is no infrastructure whatsoever. They have to carry their own extra fuel. They’re smelly with their fumes… The similarity in the growth of the EV industry and the combustion engine automobile industry is palpable, in both its actual growth and hurdles, to its skeptics, naysayers, and general haters.

@@Robert-cu9bm True, BUT, if you’re truly keeping up with the technology, you’d know that EV’s ARE improving in all those areas rapidly. With incentives Tesla model 3, depending on what state the buyer is in, currently is under $30,000. As for range, there are a few with 350+ mile range already, and daily we’re seeing promising breakthroughs in battery technology, and charging rates. And last but certainly not least, it’s interesting you saying that when it’s been announced that the Model Y is now the best selling CAR in the world! Not best selling EV, CAR. So on that alone I’d say EV’s actually are already taking over.

Hi Sandy My wife and I took a 3199 mile trip in May. We drove our Tesla model Y LR DM from south Florida to Tallahassee over to Pennsacola then up through Mississippi to St Louis over thru Atlanta then south back home. We were on the road for 21 days. One maintenance issue: we got a notice on the screen to fill the windshield washer fluid. One charging incident: as we were traveling to Valdosta, a notice came up on the screen telling us that the charger we were navigating to was at capacity. We were given about 6 or 7 different charger locations to choose from. We chose one that was 3 miles closer. That was all the problems we had. Best road trip ever. I've had a few, I'm 74. And then the joint venture between Ford and Tesla for their charging stations, and ports? That’s not the issue, the issue is the concern over whether the grid can sustain and ramp up to meet the demands. The infrastructure is here, we have power lines, what the concern really is are rolling blackouts, capacity during storms, and so on…those are legit concerns.

@@Tmrfe0962 - I'm not concerned about that. It is a scaling issue and interesting fact - your EV's battery and powerwall (inevitable) can "load share" - meaning when you are sitting at home and do not need the stored energy - a fraction can be fed back to the grid to meet demand. Multiply that fraction by the number of homes and cars and you are fine. And note the powerwall batteries may be a different chemistry to meet a different need. They are already dropping in price. And the holy grail of solar seems to be seeing the light of day (yes pun intended) with panels a with a multiplier of capacity in the same physical place. Another tired old and devalued company - GE - needs to get on board. Its all falling into place.

That is right for any idiot or humanities working not like Sandy on physics, mathematics and serious top notch engineering mostly either knowing nothing about real human systems. Future is not always what we did in the past. Tesla is also more than just a ordinary carmaker out there competing with crap VAG, GM, Stellantis make towards a disruptive market. They all are ‚flat earther‘ and extrapolate what they always did. Tesla is about software integration, processes, clever engineering, optimization, systems thinking, intelligent and at the same time ecological manufacturing towards a circle economy and it’s about Energy that humans can afford. For me the other all think in their closed cage thinking not seeing where our world is heading too. Which company offered all patents to be copied for free? Jim Farley from Ford had no choice to recognize realities or burst finally with a mediocre approach. Sandy can tell you that from an engineering viewpoint too! Barra should better have someone that cannot only cars but sees the whole picture in here team or go home and cook for her familiy. But first GM should pay back all loans. In Europe same is true for VAG, Mercedes, BMW and Stellantis that all are in their economies ‚too big to fail‘. But if one piece of the domino is falling the rest will neither survive. China is in big trouble but has the full supply lines and can produce also high quality but thanks to stubborn CCP Xi Jinping and his tongs and mafia they are not trained to have visions like Elon Musk and his team. They all rather neither have fault tolerance, adapt reality to their aims or will without being based on innate cause (Wirklichkeit in German), even cheat and betray if necessary to keep their positions and not fulfilling tasks to get a fulfilled life where money is not the only motivation. Without a different CULTURE of work no so many companies will survive in the forms they have now. So change management without the will to change is rediculous and absolutely stupid at once!💩😎🇨🇭

Similar to the gas station infrastructure Sandy mentioned, think about how much time and money it took to build all our highways starting around the 1950’s. That was a feat in itself and seems way more of a daunting task than maybe having to increase the capacity of the electric grid, which many southern states are already adopting solar so that essentially offsets some of the demand on the grid. So it doesn’t really seem to be that big of a hurdle that people say it is.

@GrumpyUnkMillions
@GrumpyUnkMillions Жыл бұрын
You really should do the math underlying the words 'not that big of a hurdle.' The estimates for the generation and infrastructure are kind of a big hurdle. Same holds true for the materials currently being used to manufacture BEVs. If the use of BEVs is forced to match the goverment mandates, there will be a lot of competition for copper and other materials. That will surely lead to increased costs for both current use patterns and BEV construction, and any upgrades to the distribution system. Lotta dollars chasing a lotta other dollars for what is now, likely to remain, limited production. If you want to build a house, the cost to electrify is may become insurmountable.

@@GrumpyUnkMillions hey so evs went from 1,000,000 sold in 2017 to over 10,000,000 sold in 2022. On track for 14,000,000-16,000,000 this year. And charging them mostly happens at home where 80-85% of new car buyers live and use reliable electricity. Oh and from 1950-2000 the U.S. grid generating capacity grew over 10% average yoy. It's est we need just 1-1.5% added annually in new capacity to support evs. Gee that all sounds pretty doable now doesn't it. 👍🏻😎

Thanks Sandy! Mary Barra saying a $30k or $40k EV won't be profitable until 2030 or later is her way of saying we are sticking w ICE and don't expect EVs under $70k from us. BEV adoption has grown 100 fold from 2013 to 2012. From 0.1% in 2012 to 1.0% in 2017 and 10% in 2022. 10 fold in 5 years TWICE IN A ROW. It's pretty obvious that global BEV sales will have 60% to 75% market share in 2027 (the current '5 year period'). BEV range in the US has gone from ~82 mi EPA in 2010 to 222 mi in 2022, a 2.8 fold increase in 12 years. Another 50% increase gives us equivalence to ICE and that will happen by 2027 or earlier.

But is looks like some of them are really aiming for bankruptcy. I love sandy rants! For me its been 31 years in the automotive service industry. I have witnessed many changes to vehicles over the years. A lot of learning to move ahead. I can however tell you that the quality of new ice vehicles has dropped significantly in the last 7-10 years. I drive a lot of different cars and can say with certainty I cant wait to get out of most of them. They are garbage. The engines are poor, and most modern transaxles are bad. Really bad. I have always been intrigued by Tesla and support their mission. Recently, I borrowed a model 3 performance for a weekend. I was without a doubt the best vehicle I have driven in a very long time. It was a true joy to drive. For me its not a republican or democrat issue. It is about what is better. We need to move on from the same old products that just offer different badges, gimmicks, and bigger screens. We need innovation. The consumer is speaking loudly. Model Y sales speak volumes. If GM wont be profitable until 2030 on ev’s they are in deep trouble. They are still in denial, as are Toyota,Honda,Chrysler and many others. With that said, I would like to thank you Sandy and your staff for this channel. It is informative, and gives people an insight as to why this a better way.
