The way you can discuss mistakes and weaknesses in your painting dispassionately is so impressive. I think that's the key to growth, you will never let them keep you in a comfortable place, doing the same thing over and over, because you fear the outcome of experimentation.

This is exactly what I need to see from you Liron. I just had a breakthrough like this the other day because I was making a painting and I realize wow it was going so well but then I noticed I screwed up when it came to the dimension of the cows I was painting I made one too dark and now I have to figure out how not to do that in the next painting please feel free to make more discoveries of mistakes so that we can feel less inadequate. 😅

Interesting demo. Opaque paints don't seem to play well with multiple layers, at least in my experience, especially the opaques with white. Maybe dry brushing titanium white over the building after it completely dries? I'm with you on exploring and experimenting so I thoroughly enjoyed watching your process.

I completely agree with you Paula. I've experimented a lot with designers white gouache and after a few layers it's not a good look. I think the dry brush white titanium is an excellent idea, so thank you😊

I was having that trouble last night. Too purple not enough orange. Using Daniel Smith. I think maybe the blues are just more aggressive. Have to add more yellow and less blue next time I think?

Liron ..try one painting only with Gouache...that would help maybe to get idea of handling opaque..when I mix watercolour and opaque white I always felt saturation is affected very badly

Yes - that sounds quite familiar to me! (: I no longer fear going too dark, but that means I sometimes tend to forget and over darken some areas 😅

Great video. When i try this, adding more layers, it just looks muddy. Your painting still looks fresh. What's the difference?

Thank you 🙏 Could be many things, sometimes it's the paper's quality that doesn't allow glazing, so your new layer ends up awakening the previous layer and everything mixes together. How do you make your paper not to get curved Liron since you are also not using a masking tape in this example. Is it due to the weight of the paper or is there any other methods to do so? Thank you so much.

I'm using a 300 gsm paper, so it definitely buckles a bit. But I find it simply doesn't bother me as much (: If I let it naturaly dry, it tends to stretch back and be relatively flat. One of the issues with buckled paper is how the hills and valleys can lead to some areas drying slower and creating undesired effects. But I easily solve this by physically holding the paper and tilting it however I want, helping the paint move. Hope that helps (:

How far can the frustration free water color course take you in understanding watercolor? And how long is the course in hours?

The course is around 4 hours and 20 minutes long, with 26 lessons. There’s also a bonus lesson of ~20 minutes As for how far it can take you - that really will depend on you and your level of immersion (: But the way I structured it was that, information wise, it has everything necessary for finding freedom and letting go

I’m learning about my paints with coaching from Hazel Soan. Fabulous stuff to understand. She is having us understand all of our pigments: transparent, semi transparent, semi opaque and opaque, and how they react with each other. The word you were looking for is terra cotta pots or planters.

I think the colors look fine. What's missing , I suspect, is that during the process of 'going for it', a lot of the depth dimension got flattened because everything in front and back is in the same shade intensity, which makes them look more like theyre side by side, rather than one closer/one further back. Even the reference photo looks kinda 2-d if you look at it. But seriously, if I could choose my colors with the speed and accuracy you are, Id be a happier painter.

We've all been there. Seen something we don't like in a painting and kept going back trying to correct it and ended up with something well below our usual standards. It's good to see that you're human and have similar problems, even if your clunkers are better than our masterpieces. One thing I will say, though, that you don't mention in the video is that you didn’t fall into the trap of having too much detail everywhere. When you added details to the further buildings, I was fearing the worst but you kept the closer building looser and out of focus. Would have been very easy to add a similar amount of detail to that closer building and ruin things. The eye can focus on close stuff or distant stuff but not both at the same time, so the close and the distant stuff in the painting shouldn’t both be in focus.
