Thank you Liron! My biggest takeaway/reminder lately...be an artist, not rule follower. I'm still working on just enjoying it, not stressing about the end product. The price of paper doesn't help a person to relax. Much appreciation for you.

Thank you Liron. When I paint and it doesn't work I tend to 'over work'. Then sometimes there's a breakthrough and amidst the mess I see my vision and it's been worth pushing on so then it gets really exciting seeing something I hadn't originally planned. Dear Alan Owen who has been painting for 70 years said recently 'I'm terrible at over working!' I think your honesty and also Alan's are so helpful and encouraging knowing I'm not alone with the challenges of this most beautiful medium of art. I loved watching this video your process, honest commentary and enthusiasm is why I watch you. Thank you again Liron ⛵ and as always take care of yourself & family. ⭐

I almost joined you in your hand-wringing. Each time you brought out the white, I silently begged you to paint the highlights/reflections in the water. It made such a difference! I very much liked the way the water turned out. I so appreciate listening to your struggles and critique! Gives me hope!

Love this! I personally learn when I see a painter struggle and then talk or fix his way through a problem. This models for us students how we can then try and fix our struggles. When it all comes together in three perfect washes it leaves us feeling lost when that doesn’t happen at home! 💕💕💕💕

Haha indeed, I know what you mean 😂 Incidentally, I just posted another out of those "struggle" videos today. Happy they help / encourage!

I cannot paint thinking of rules, I paint because I love it and to make the idea work for me at that moment, to me it is about the colour, the atmosphere, shapes and the challenges which are always there with each brush stroke, to me nothing is irredeemable, you just dig in and work harder, it is always a lesson, a discovery. I guess that goes for all artists?🤔

Thank you for giving your thoughts on composition and why a painting may work or not or whatever... ;) This really makes me move away from looking for rules and just trusting my own taste and just do what feels right and what I like. Huge thank you! ❤ Take care. :)

Thank you once again.. For using your own example to try and push the painter to explore their own style.. Makes a whole lot of sense and encourages a beginner like myself to keep on exploring my own style even as I watch your amazing work journey and that of others... subconsciously I think I am absorbing what works for me, my journey...for now, till it evolves on its own... What is helping is to paint regularly and i am realising i paint nowadays just for the sake of painting as opposed to painting to get 'presentable results'... Thank you!

Thank you so much for this, Liron. I am really struggling with my painting at the moment, and also have a lot of personal stuff going on so can't devote as much time as I'd like to it (perhaps part of my problem is, I have less time to paint so I think "gosh, must make this time count - gotta get it perfect first time" - no pressure, lol!), But I made some time this evening to watch this video of yours, and I am so glad I did. And I must investigate gel pens... I use white poster colour at the moment!

Thank you Ann! 🙏😊 Yes - that's what usually happens. The small amount of free time isn't as much of a problem, but rather how it makes us act and feel (: I'm sure you'll get it though! Very happy this vid was useful. And indeed - I find the gel pen quite useful!

In one go - trying to complete the painting without multiple washes. But it's a loose definition (: I think the origin is in oil painting, where instead of letting it dry for a long long time (oil takes MUCH longer to fully dry), and then painting over it - you complete the painting in one go. It's actually a real necessity when painting with oils, otherwise a painting can take weeks or months to complete

Yes I think that if you kept to even the values on the buildings they would not have been as nice. We’re all trying to sell our paintings. Haha! It is crazy.😂
