People forget that Aerosmith has 2 great lead guys, that it's not just Joe playing. Brad Whitford deserves every bit as much credit. Arc Angels' Charlie Sexton and Doyle Bramhall III are both incredible guitar players on their own. It's too bad that they didn't make more than one album, but it still holds up and they do still do occasional shows Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs of The Scoprions. I've seen them melt the goddam stage.

Listen to the chorus of “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” or “Sun King” and of course “The End”which all 3 play lead, Paul, George, John, in that order repeat 3 times. It’s brilliant. @Bess Ross Clapton didn’t come into the picture, as far as recordings until the white album, and the bad was in the beginning of a break up by then. John was the rhythm player but he played solos regularly too. Not sure what Beatles you’re listening to; maybe through the lenses of someone accustomed to 70s and 80s rock? Try listening to 50s rock and country music and then go back to the Beatles. They were phenomenal performers and writers. Not the best technical performers for sure but that isn’t what they were going for. I don’t think that was really a thing in rock music until 65 or 66, around the time of Hendrix and Cream

Since you mentioned Phish, the Grateful Dead. Live band, always had what appears to be a primary soloist (Jerry) but watch and listen to what Bob Weir plays. He’s never strictly rhythm. His playing weaves through Jerry’s and they are always listening. It’s subtle, never flashy. Yeah, jam band, but that’s kind of the point. Derek and the Dominoes could do it once in the studio with overdubs. The Dead did it every single night. Fair warning, I’m a converted Deadhead, so I’ve recently come to see them as something more. Dead & Co. are great as well, but the relationship between John Mayer and Bob is different so the result can be different.

WTF? Did the Allman's hire a f-ing octopus to play drums on ' Whipping Post ', or what..? It is a masterpiece of Southern Rock 1,000,000%. Bandleader Greg Allman is underrated whilst Duane Allman cannot ever possibly be overrated in any way shape or form. Cover ' Hey Jude ' I think I'd prefer to self-immolate myself in AvGas, actually, thanks for asking though but I'd rather burn to death than cover that! Maybe 'Professional Turd-Polisher' good old mate Glenn Fricker could weigh in on this salient symptom of serendipity. If you read this f*%& you totally, Glenn!. Seriously, this type of negative forethinking was likely Pickett's headspace upon this suggestion Southern Comfort by the gallon couldn't countenance for a scintilla of space-time. One of the things I love most about watching the Anderton's videos is watching them jam. I haven't seen that level of tradeoff between lead and non-lead parts since I was doing Irish music, where parts would trade off, and the current lead player could pick what song to transition into next, and *sudden key change* that everyone instantly knew. The canon was so well established that someone random could join you busking, and you'd all just jam. Fun times. Also, *loved* the Free Bird Parrot.

The Outlaws ''Green Grass and High Tides" I thought for sure Johnathan would go there when Baxter asked him to name one, since he was just talking about how good they were. I'm dating myself, but I'm throwing Humble Pie with Peter Frampton and Steve Marriott on to the list. MC5 with Wayne Kramer and Fred Smith. Social Distortion with Mike Ness and Johnny Wickersham.

IMPORTANT: For optimum effect, dueling guitar solos should be separated by distinct tones (different pickup types, wah effect, octavias, etc)

This group may be way different than what we are used to discussing here, but I saw the Gypsy Kings back in the 80’s and was floored by the music. Not to mention they had 20+ guitars on stage before they entered. That was the exact moment my GAS started 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

I've dug both single guitar bands (pantera, Sab, VH...) and twin guitar bands (TL, Scorps, Skynyrd...) but being in a band, i want to be with another player. Join a band in '82 as co guitar player and we'd switch roles and was fun. Quit after a year and they hired a gal who played keys. Didn't last long. "05 reunion, learn a CD of songs and have dinner. Everyone played so well. we wanted to gig. This time we worked up harmony parts for Flirtin' With Disaster, Cowboy Song and Ramblin' Man and shared the solos. Sounded good. Party and bar gig then i cut my left index fingertip, requiring stitches. Quit again. Full recovery,,,should have stuck around, but... Couple of years later, i get a call from the guitar player, they're playing at a local record store. Ha, they rehired the same gal from before. Sounded alright but i think we sounded better before.

My Chem's Ray Toro and Frank Iero are a fantastic duo. Three Cheers and TBP's double guitar work is amazing. And the last great rock guitar oriented albuns.

I miss when my band had another lead player. I played classic rock and blues and the other played hard rock and metal but we were in a country band. Sounds crazy but it worked

For a western band that is not completely ancient, Dragonforce exemplifies the twin lead attack. Where you want to look is in Japan. They are stacked with twin lead pairings. You have Hizaki and Teru from Versailles/Jupiter as an example. Within Japan, it is the women that you want to look at. One of the best metal bands on the planet right now is Lovebites featuring the pair of Midori and Miyako. They feature intricate dueling solos played at incredible speed and unison metal harmonies that feature things harmonized sweep picking, etc. Other pairs include Hazuki and Saki from Nemophila, Toki and Yoshi from Aldious, Ayumi and Misaki of Bridear, and Mayto and Sakura from Hagane. These are just a few examples. Then there are the fabulous male and female pairs like Yuki and Seiji from D_Drive. The twin lead attack is pretty common in Japan.

The Premier Guitar Rig Rundown on Lynyrd Skynyrd is brilliant - very funny guys. "Our gimmick was good music. Other guys had snakes and all kinds of stuff."

In 1971 I saw the Allman Brothers. A few months later Duane was dead. In 1972 I saw the Allman Brothers. A few months later Berry was dead. In deference to the rest I never saw them again.
