LUISE HEINZL - JUNK JOURNAL ART

Күн бұрын

I'm sharing my tips & tricks for assembling the signatures for a junk journal. In this step of making a journal you can not only decide about the order of the pages but also if you wanna take out some that you don't like anymore or that are perhaps too much. I wanna discuss about the proportion of a journal and how to find the right width for the spine and how to decide about the amount of signatures that you wanna sew into it.

Wowwww u said exactly what my problem is n even used the exact word.... LIMITING! I make my cover first and always limit myself to how many signatures, pages, ephemera etc due to that. For me it's always been my main focus of my journal and leads me from there. However you are so right in saying it is limiting, as one of the issues, and I will be taking your advice and trying to do my cover at the end now! Thank you Luise!! ✌🏼🧡

Hi Luise, I recognized the stencil (named Splotches) that you used on the cover of your purple journal, because I was shopping Tim Holtz items online earlier today and almost put the same one in my cart! Now that I've seen your video, maybe I will add it the next time 😀 When you showed big gap between two signatures in the purple book, it sparked my imagination for things I might try if I had a book like that. Maybe turn the problem into an opportunity and create a pen holder in that gap inside the spine! Or possibly a gusseted pocket that would fill that gap between those signature pages? "Gator mouth" journals and cards always bother me, too. I think it would be fun to see a future video or series on closure options (preferably with no sewing). Cheers! P.S. I haven't finished watching the video yet, but based on the other comments here, it sounds like you shared your news of becoming a TH maker. Congratulations, so happy for you! Can't wait to see your makes in future TH broadcasts! 💜

Dear Luise, 1. Someone is going to TREASURE having your handwriting in their journal!!! 2. With the blank pages, I might be concerned that if I bind the signatures and then afterwards I add embellishments then I will create a gator mouth journal. Do you make the spine a bit larger to compensate for that?? 3. My process is to arrange the pages into signatures (not sewn together) before I add the embellishments. I think this is because, even though I lean towards the clean version, I use different color pages (perhaps my color scheme has 3 different colors) and it can be difficult to get the second half of the pages in the signature to color coordinate unless I am careful here. (I hope that makes sense in writing.) Of course there’s always a way to get it to work! It is junk journaling!! Yes, I agree to think ahead! Thank you! 💕💕💕

Luise I am so happy for you!! I knew sooner or later Tim would come calling after seeing your work. I'm sure now you'll get that autograph for your journal :). This video was so helpful as I experienced similar problems as I am learning how to make my journals. On the first one, I did not allow a big enough spine and it quickly became an "alligator mouth "; on the second one, I made the cover after decorating and I had to split it into two covers because it was so chunky and would not feel comfortable as one journal. So, after seeing your process, I will be following it for my next journal and making my signatures more even for a better look and feel. Thank you so much for this insight--looking forward to the next video.

Congratulations Luise on becoming part of Tim's team. Thank you for this very comprehensive video of putting the signatures together. I have been making a journal that has gone out of control and become massive like A3 and I am thinking a soft cover journal would be best. Do you agree? I hope one of the journals will be soft covered as I am not sure how to attach the signatures and what options I have. I am so excited to see what your celebration video will be. Thanks again and can't wait to hear about your visit with Barbara and going to Rome as well. My goodness you have so much going on.

Thank you so much 😊 yes, you're right, it's a lot going on at the moment, but that's great, keeps my brain & body busy 😁 Sounds like for your journal a softcover would be the best. It seems to be very massive, for my taste a soft cover makes such a journal more handy and pleasing to the eye. I will also make soft covers for both of the journals in the series, the video comes soon!

Lo que se deja entre cuadernillo y cuadernillo cuando estos tienen cosas pegadas (como los álbumes), para que no se deforme ni el lomo, ni se agrande desproporcionadamente, se llaman compensaciones o escartivanas. Sean espacios o sean piezas adicionales.
