Big fan of the Palomar knot, JC. Never had one break and never lost a lure on it. Thanks for the video.

A Clinch or Improved Clinch Knot will "Knot" slip if you wrap the the tag end more times. All I use is braid from #10,20,30,40 and #70 test I only use the clinch to tie my swivels on.Wrap it 10 times instead of 6,I wrap it 11 because I always lose one when I try to put the tag through the loop...lol Never had one slip and been using braid and tying cliches since Fireline came out,you need to work it a lil more than normal to get it seated correctly but it's almost nil.

Lol... I love the Palomar knot I will stick with that... But you're right sometimes when you're tying on a luer whatever it can be a little bit of a hassle to get leader and luer or everything through that Loop. Basically if you always just go through the eye of the hook, swivel what have you and double it up with the braided line you'll be good. But a good video brother.

I came up with a knot that works pretty well by doubling the line over, through the eye, then tying a single overhand knot (like step 1 of the palomar knot), pulled snug, followed by a clinch knot as you've shown here. It seems to work pretty well. Do you know if this is actually a knot that is practiced by fishermen and/or do you see any flaws with it?

Thanks for sharing. I don't know if that knot is used.

What strength braid do you use for surf fishing? I’m tying up a bunch of pompano rigs and have 30lb mono for those. I use that second knot but after passing the line through the loop at the swivel I go through the newly formed loop you make from that as well. I guess I’m just terrified of braid slipping Great catch to finish off. Love bull red fish in the fall.

Yes you can... go through the eye twice, tie an overhand knot then clinch knot. It will NOT slip. Its fast and easy too.

How bout tying a leader with a snap swivel to a main line? Same thing?

Hi JC. They are two great knots. Easy to tie and strong. If you are in the market for a knife sharpener, I would recommend the Lansky Turn Box ceramic stick sharpener. They cost about $20 on e-bay and are easy to set-up and use. They work on all types of knives. Old Lady Angler purchased one and she likes it. There are several videos on KZbin to see how to use it. Thanks, Mickey

Ha ha...I actually cut out footage of me trying to cut the braid with my knife and failing, too funny. Thanks for the tips.

Hi JC, I collect and use knives and have several "fixed angle" sharpening systems. They range in price from $90.00 to $20.00. The Lansky Turn Box system works great on long blades and folding knives. I sharpen our kitchen knives and my pocket knives on the Turn Box. It doesn't matter if you have inexpensive or expensive knives, they all need to be sharpened sometime. A well sharpened knife will cut 20 lb. braid like it was cotton thread. If you want to spend $90.00 then the Lansky Clamp System, with diamond hones and the additional Ultra-fine ceramic hone will give you an amazing edge. Thanks, Mickey

@@RadReelingFishing I use a knife (Gerber Remix that I have had for many many many years) all the time to cut my braid,from everything from #10 to #70,cut my bait,cut my food,strip wire,cut radiator hose,sometimes my own fingers...lol and IDK what else..Never have a problem,all I use is a Smith's combo diamond stone.It has it's own plastic protective sheath that you pull the "stone" out of,flip and insert the handle into the sheath.It has coarse and fine side and also a hook groove that works pretty decent.Picked it up about 10 yrs ago at Wally World,for get how much I paid then but I see one on Amazon for $16.98 with Prime. I have also sharpened a sickle with it a few times to clear out a fishing spot.

LOL what’s with the blade to cut your braid man!!?? Haha you’re sending mixed signals... for once the knotting tutorial was pretty spot on, but then you lose all credibility by trying to cut the knot with a blade like a caveman haha... please don’t take it the wrong way!
@rider660r2 жыл бұрын
Guess you're one of the dolts that thinks you need the "special" braid cutters.... You don't,all you need is a sharp knife,yeah his knife could be sharper.I been using braids since Fireline hit the market and all I use is braid for my main lines an they all get cut by a knife I carry all the time.
